Burying the Hatchet
Who: Patience, NPC bad guy, Sophia and Skylar
Where: Random streets, then a nearby police station, then over the phone
When: Wednesday, December 29th - Around 9PM
Let's be honest. Patience didn't exactly make the best 'Big Exit' two months ago but it was only fitting that when she did come back to LA, it was with a bang. Our favorite strawberry blonde (yes, she had let her hair go back to its natural color for now) was currently walking over to a payphone to make a call, dressed in black high-waisted dress pants, a white collared shirt tucked in at the waist with a few buttons open to expose her magnificent cleavage and three-inch heels, looking … well, absolutely stunning.
...Like that was going to be a surprise.
Before she got to said payphone, however, she was yanked forcefully into a nearby alleyway by a faceless assailant, a man with a knife and very little patience, it seemed (har har). Patience took the whole situation well. If 'well' was interpreted as 'she broke seven bones in his arm and had him pinned to the ground before the cops came'. The funny thing was if she hadn't show restraint, the guy would be dead. Simple as that.
As it was, however, she didn't look like she'd broken a sweat when the cavalry came. The cavalry being Sophia Cross and her partner, Keith. "Do I wanna know what happened here?" Sophia asked with an amused smirk, while Keith read the guy his rights and cuffed him.
"It's pretty simple, officer," Patience cooed, taking a few seductive steps towards the other woman. It looked like some thing never changed. "He attacked me. I fought back. Obviously I'm stronger than I look."
"...Obviously," Sophia replied, thinking that if she wasn't on the job she'd likely do a lot of things to this woman... then again, it wasn't like that had stopped her before, huh? "We're gonna need you to make an official statement, though. You can follow us in your car. It shouldn't take more than an hour." It wasn't exactly procedure, but it didn't look like the woman was shaken up, or anything. "Miss...?"
"McConnell. Mrs.," Patience corrected her. Although, frankly, she doubted she'd be a Mrs. for much longer. "Can I make a call when we get there?"
"McConnell," Sophia repeated, jotting the name and a few notes down on her pad before flipping it closed. She was sure that she'd heard that name recently, but couldn't place where. She had a vague feeling that she'd heard it on the news, but... she hardly ever paid attention to that, so she couldn't be sure. "No problem," she said to the woman's inquiry.
Forty-five minutes later, Patience was sitting at Sophia's desk alone. She didn't realize that being a cop took so much paper work. She clenched her jaw and picked up a nearby phone, figuring now was a good a time as any. Being a former employee, she knew Ben Bale's number from memory. Of course, it wasn't exactly him that she wanted to talk to. "Come on, bitch, how hard is it to answer the phone..."
Considering how early it was, Patience was lucky that anyone was around to answer the damn phone. Skylar was just getting ready to go out for the evening when the phone rang. She left it for Helena to answer, only to get told a few moments later that a very urgent and rather impolite woman was on the phone for her.
"Good lord," Skylar muttered as she walked to the phone in the hallway (well, one of the hallways...whatever). "Hello?" she said into the receiver.
Patience's lip curled as soon as she heard Skylar's voice and she leaned back in her chair... Or, Officer Cross' chair. "Belated 'ho ho ho', bitch. It's the ghost of Christmas past."
Skylar sighed. "Of all the people that you should be calling, why on earth are you calling me?" she asked simply. "Shouldn't you be calling your husband to check on your child?" Skylar certainly knew how to jab a knife just where it would hurt the most, didn't she?
"I've missed you too," Patience replied, her jaw setting in frustration. Luckily, she'd taken care of her anger issues (...for the most part), huh? "And I'm calling you because I... What's the phrase I'm looking for? ... Bury the hatchet. I want to bury the hatchet."
Skylar sighed. "As much as I enjoy having an arch nemesis, you're probably right." So, true question is...which one of them was the evil one? "Plus, Cash and Bella seem to like one another, so them seeing us at for each other's throats is probably not healthy for them."
"No, it's not," Patience replied as she twisted the phone cord between her fingers. "And holding all that anger in isn't exactly healthy, either. I'm not saying that we should hold hands and sing kumbaya, or anything, but would civility be too much to ask for?"
"I suppose not," Skylar admitted. "And if anything thinks they are going to get me to sing 'Kumbaya' then they are sadly mistaken." Since she was in no need of money, she had no need to sell out, thanks. "So, beyond burying the hatchet, what HAVE you been up to?"
"Hooking," Patience replied completely dead-pan. She couldn't keep her expression or tone straight, however, and soon let out a raspy laugh. "No. Working on my anger issues, mostly. Which, by the way, I actually wanted to apologize for trying to strangle you. Like, face to face. I want you to see that it's sincere." Dear God, was this *really* Patience? "Other than that, finding a job. Can't be a mooch forever, y'know?"
Skylar cracked up when Patience said hooking, knowing she wasn't serious. In another life, maybe these two idiots could have been normal friends, eh? "Fine, we can meet if you want. Just...do me a favor and call Pat soon. Other issues aside, him and your brother both are worried."
"I know... It's just a matter of working up the courage. Who knew you'd be the easy one to talk to?" She smiled faintly, knowing that three months ago? They couldn't even bear to be in the same room together. The times? They were a changin'. "But yeah. Beyond Ben, please don't tell anyone that we spoke until I talk to Pat. I don't want him to feel like he's the last one to know."
"Good luck with the courage," Skylar said to her. "I'll keep it to myself, if for no other reason that I'm sure no one else would believe that you called me first." And she was being nice, although she probably wouldn't admit to it. "I'm not terribly sure if Ben will believe this." She also decided to not tell Patience about Baily because...well...it was also a nice thing to do, she supposed.
"I don't suppose that anyone would believe that we spoke, let alone were civil to each other." Patience let out a raspy chuckle. No one would believe that Patience would be the one to extend the olive branch, come to think of it... "Thank you, Skylar."
"It's not a problem, Patience," Skylar said with a slight smile. Hey, both our girls are growing up a little. Let's all have a moment: AWWW!
