Gift Giving
Who: Pat and Morgan
Where: McConnell residence
When: Christmas Eve - Afternoon
Holding baby Cash in his arms, Pat McConnell relaxed in his favorite recliner, quietly watching a basketball game as he waited for Morgan to get home. He'd planned to both give her a nice gift AND invite her to join he and Baily for dinner that night, as he wanted to include her in his 'family' on Christmas Eve.
Morgan was one of the people who was actually out the day of Christmas Eve trying to finish off her shopping. With baby Cash being her priority the past few weeks the nanny had little time to devote to getting her Christmas shopping accomplished well before the actual day rolled around. It was late afternoon when she finally made her way back to the McConnell house with gifts in hand for her grandparents.
As she walked in, Pat stood, still holding the baby, and walked over, giving her a friendly kiss on the cheek. "Merry Christmas, Morgan. Have a seat? I wanted to talk to you about a couple things..."
"Merry Christmas, Mister McConnell." Morgan returned with a smile, which was briefly directed toward the child in the man's arms. "I hope everything is alright." She stated with a little bit of concern as usually when one person wanted to have a talk with another it usually involved something they had done wrong. Morgan, though, couldn't think of what that might be as she adored little Cash and held Patrick McConnell in the highest of respect, and wouldn't intentionally ruin the opportunity the man had given her. With the small shopping bag still clenched within her fingers, Morgan moved toward the nearest piece of furniture to sit down as requested with a soft smile still intact.
"First, I want to say that I think you've done a WONDERFUL job so far. Cash seems to adore you, and you've really taken a lot of my stress from me. To thank you, first I'd like to treat you like the family you've become, and invite you to spend the evening tonight with me and my girlfriend." He face-palmed there, "and I swear that was meant innocently. I meant for dinner and conversation." He knew about the nanny BEN had, and didn't want to be thought of in that manner.
Morgan smiled at the praise. "And I've loved working for you and simply adore that little boy of yours." Yes, the feeling seemed to be mutual, and Morgan felt there was a special bond between her and young Cash. A connection that only existed between two witches, even though it had yet to be fully determined if Cash would actually have a way with the magics, or how strong that connection would be. "And I would be honored to join your family for Christmas dinner, except I've already have set plans. I usually share Christmas Eve and Christmas morning with my grandparents." She told him hoping he'd be understanding about her wanting to keep up tradition with her own family.
"Totally understood." He replied, nodding. "Also... When you were coming in... Did you see the black Camaro in the driveway?" He asked, sitting back down.
"I did, yes. I thought maybe you had company and hoped to enter the house quietly and unnoticed." Though when she entered the house Morgan only found Pat and young Master Cash. Maybe they had briefly disappeared to another room in the house and Morgan's attempt to step into the house without disturbing them had been all for nothing.
He reached into his jeans and pulled out a key with a red ribbon on it. "Its yours. Merry Christmas, Morgan. Welcome to the family."
"Mister McConnell, this is really too much. I couldn't accept such a gift." Morgan told him when she caught sight of the key he removed from his pocket and heard the words he said at just about that same moment. It was a gracious gesture on his part, but Morgan was unsure if she'd be able to accept such a luxurious gift.
"You take care of my son. There's not a single thing you could do to help me more right now. I think its not a big ENOUGH gift. So please. Accept it... with sincere gratitude on my part. You're a godsend, hon." He said with a sincere smile.
"Well.... " Morgan voiced a bit hesitantly before actually offering out her free hand to accept the expensive gift she still didn't think she was entitled to. But then that was just the way Morgan Dennis was, she didn't do things with the expectation of getting something in return for her efforts. "This is more then generous of you, Mister McConnell."
"Nonsense. Just enjoy it. You're a beautiful woman, and you'll look amazing in it." He laughed and clapped her gently on the shoulder. "Now... Get ready and have fun with the grandparents. Treat them to something nice and give me the tab. Ok?"
"That won't be necessary, Mister McConnell. My grandmother still insists on cooking the holiday dinner, even if it takes her a little bit longer then it used to." The blond smiled. Morgan was of the hope that the elderly woman would allow her to help in the creation of Christmas dinner this year. "If you'll excuse me a moment." Morgan said before she departed for her room to get the gift for Cash she had colorfully wrapped and carefully stashed away in her room.
"I hope you don't mind I took the liberty of getting Master Cash a little something for the holidays." Morgan said upon her return carrying a colorfully wrapped box for the infant. "It's not much, but I thought they were adorable even if he were limited to wearing them around the house." Even in this day and age not everyone was accepting of witches and Morgan didn't want to bring down trouble for Pat or his young son. Within the box Morgan offered to Pat were two infant sized t-shirts.
"Ohhh man." Pat laughed with a grin as he looked at the items. "Thank you... His Uncle Ashton will LOVE these, I'm telling you. You're very good to Cash, Morgan. I hope you'll stay a part of his lie for many years to come."
"That is my hope as well, Mister McConnell. You are a wonderful man to work for and Cash is such a joy that I find it no trouble taking care of the babe. I hope to be employed by you for some time to come." Morgan smiled pleasantly to the man. This arrangement had turned out better then she had anticipated and Morgan hoped she'd be Cash's caretaker for longer then she had been for her previous employer's child.
