Christmas Time
Who: Buffy and Kevin
Where: Summers' Home
When: Christmas Eve, Early Evening
Buffy was doing something that, while she was actually good at, she rarely did: she was cooking. Kevin was coming over tonight to hang, and she was baking some cookies from scratch so that they'd have something to snack on while they hung out. College had let out for the Christmas holidays, so Buffy didn't have to worry about anything like homework or tests for the next few weeks (thank GOD), so now she wanted to focus on getting herself some boyfriend time. When she heard the doorbell ring, she shouted, "Mom! Can you get that? It's probably Kevin!" to Joyce Summers, who was reading a book in the living room. With and indulgent smile, her mother got up from the sofa where she had been sitting comfortably and walked to the door.
God help him, he tried. Really. Kevin Van Warren didn't set out to look effeminate, seriously. Yet somehow? He managed just fine anyway. Standing in the doorway, an adorably boyish grin on his face, the aspiring singer wore a nice black and white suit with a thin black tie.... along with black nail polish on his fingernails, heavy black eyeliner, and his hair done up with enough spray to likely kill three ozone layers. "Hi, Ms. Summers... Merry Christmas."
Ms. Summers either didn't mind Kevin's unconventional look, or kept it to herself since he made her daughter so happy, because she just smiled when she saw him. "Merry Christmas, Kevin," she said, stepping aside to that the young man could walk in. "Buffy's in the kitchen, if you want to join her there."
"Thank you." He gave her a respectful nod, before extending a hand, which held a small bouquet of flowers with a card. "For you, ma'am."
"Thank you, Kevin!" Joyce said, leaning over to give him a quick hug. "I'm going to go and put these in some water in a vase," she said, heading toward the kitchen herself after shutting the door behind him.
Buffy was just pulling a pan of chocolate chip cookies out of the oven when her mother came in. "Nice flowers, Mom," she said. "Hey, Kevin!" she said, setting the tray down and kissing him.
"Buffy..." He said with that same adorably awed and reverent tone he always gave when he first saw her. "Merry Christmas, sweetheart..."
"Merry Christmas to you, too!" she squealed a little. "And now you get to have Christmas cookies!" she said, grabbing one that had cooled a little and stuffing it in his mouth. "Taste the magical Slayer baking skills!"
Sadly? This was common for Kevin. One didn't grow up with Lucy and Chloe Van Warren and not constantly have hyperactive blondes shoving cookies at them. "Thank you..." he mumbled around the cookie, trying not to laugh as he gave her a loving hug.
Buffy would just crack up if she realized he had just compared her to his sisters. Sadly, the comparison wasn't TOO far off, if Buffy were feeling on the honest side. "So, how are they?"
"Very good." He snickered, sweetly letting his fingers intertwine with hers. "It's nice to taste a NORMAL cookie, not one with enough sugar to make Godzilla hyper."
She squeezed his hand as she used her free one to turn off the oven. "Thanks," she said with a smile. "We have milk in the fridge, too." She couldn't help but giggle at the image of a hyper Godzilla, even though Tokyo wouldn't survive such a disaster.
"You... REALLY like your holidays." He said with a hint of amusement. Ah, Kevin. You haven't seen Buffy The Thanksgiving Nazi yet, clearly.
She snorted. "Dawn calls me a Holiday Nazi, actually," she said with a smirk. "Holidays are really the only time I get to cook and relax completely, so I like to take advantage." Plus, she got to spend time with loved ones. Awesome for her.
"Well... I kind of brought one gift for you tonight. The others are at my place for when you come over tomorrow..." He said with a grin, taking a moment to lean in and plant a kiss on her lips.
"Really?" she asked with a grin. "Well, your gifts are upstairs, but I can totally get one for you to open tonight." If he was being sexual or anything, it was going right over her damn head.
Sadly, no. He WASN'T being sexual... most of her gifts were just too damn big and/or fragile to carry over right now. He pulled a thin box from his suitcoat, opening it to reveal a beautiful gold necklace with what appeared to be an antique locket attached. "This has been in my family for 7 generations. My mom was originally going to give it to one of the girls... but when I told her how much I love you... she said she was ok with me giving it to you."
Buffy actually reached out and fanned her face in some vain effort to keep happy tears from flowing. "It's beautiful, Kevin," she said to him, smiling as she gave up and just wiped at her eyes.
"Obviously, you know... just don't wear it when you're gonna be..." he made a staking motion, which looked far funnier than it was likely meant to.
She giggled. "I promise to take excellent care of it," she said, reaching over and giving him a hug that *might* take his breath away a little.
"Ok... uh... Buffy?" His voice became a whisper then, hilariously enough. "Uhhh... br-breathing? Little tough right now..."
"Oh god!" she squealed, letting him go. "Sorry! I got carried away. Are you OK?" OK, now she was freaking out just a tiny bit.
"Y-Yeah...." He laughed, catching his breath. "Wow... I probably should find that superstrength as hot as I do."
That just made her laugh. "Well, guess that's just good for me then, huh?" she asked playfully.
"Obviously..." He said with a little laugh. "So... anyway... will your sister be joining us tonight?"
"I'm sure Dawn's floating around somewhere," Buffy said with a slight sigh. Not a bad sigh, just a regular one. "No telling where, though."
"I just... I kind of love your family." He admitted, shrugging. "It's a cozy, tight-knit family. I mean... even though MY parents are together, I barely see them. I like how close you are to Dawn and your mom."
"Well, divorce and moving around a bit breeds that," Buffy said with a slight shrug. Her parents had tried to work it out when she first moved back to LA, but that hadn't worked. At least they were on friendly terms now. "You say that, but it's not fun when you're having to steal your clothes back from a sister."
"Well, in all fairness, my sisters and I tend to steal each other's makeup..." Oh my god... Shut up, Kevin!
She laughed. "I was going to leave that one alone," she teased. "Still, Dawn likes to hide things when she borrows them and then gets stains on them. At least you don't have to worry about that with make up."
"Ok, ok..." He blushed, leading her back to the food she'd been preparing. "Let's help you get the food done, so we can go snuggle up and watch a movie or something..."
She smiled at him. "There really isn't much more to do. Just eat and snuggle, really." She had actually planned ahead and made sure that there wouldn't be much else to do when he arrived.
"Merry Christmas, Buffy..." He said, pulling her to him for an adoring kiss. "And here's to many... many... more."
