Impromptu Ice Cream
Who: Fred and Janna
Where: Somewhere Outside
When: Early Sunday Afternoon, December 5th
After waking up and having a decent amount of waffles for someone her size, Fred decided to go outside today (since Gunn and Maddie were being all mooney-eyed around each other and she could take a hint), dressed in a lovely floral print dress and wearing her oval rimmed glasses. She appreciated the fact that Maddie had bought her contacts as well as glasses, but they hurt her eyes after a while, which was why she decided to give said eyes a rest.
She was currently wandering around outside, just taking in the sights and trying to familiarize herself with everything. Luckily she'd gotten over talking to Maddie's houseplants and was getting back into the habit of talking to people, huh?
Janna was out wandering the streets of the city that afternoon in a pair jeans and a Suicide Messiah t-shirt. While she didn't mind staying with Ben and Skylar Bale, she was getting to the point where she was of the thought that her and her brother, Jaycen, should leave the estate and move into a place of their own. That, though, would take her to getting a job as there was no place within the city that she knew of that could be had for free. Janna pushed those thoughts from her mind as all that could be put off til tomorrow. Now the girl was just going to continue wandering and enjoy the day if possible.
Poor Fred was so lost in her own world she bumped into a perfect stranger, an elderly man, "I'm so sorry! I wasn't lookin' where I was goin'," she apologized profusely, actually making sure the man was alright and on his way before rolling her eyes at her actions. "Great goin', Fred. Assault the elderly. Great way to make a first impression," she muttered to herself.
Janna hadn't actually witnessed the human on human collision, but the incident did draw her attention when she heard a raised female voice apparently trying to apologize for it all. "I'm sure he knows that it wasn't intentional." Janna voiced with a smile when she got closer to Fred with the elderly man walking away with a shake of his head and a low, inaudible grumble.
Fred blinked at the other woman. "Oh, it never is," she admitted. "Most don't seem to realize that, though." She blushed and hung her head a little, letting her long hair fall in front of her face. She was still a little on the shy side, it seemed. Even if she WAS willing to talk to strangers. "I'm sorry t'make a fuss. I'm sure you've got more pressing matters."
Well, if that wasn't the most adorable.. Janna couldn't help smile softly when the other girl went all shy on her. "Nothing too pressing that I can't spend a couple moments talking to someone." And though filled with the urge to reach out and brush the loose strands away from the other girl's face, Janna showed great restraint in not doing just that.
"You're nice. Everyone I've met here with the exclusion of that one man seems nice." Clearly she hadn't experienced the best of human nature for a long time, until recently. "I'm Fred," she added, with a bubbly infectious smile.
"I'm Janna. Nice to meet you Fred." Yes, the girl was pure adorability. "Fred is short for Fredericka?" Janna then asked curiously as Fred seemed quite the odd name to purposely place on a girl, especially one as cute as little miss sunshine here.
"No." Fred laughed, scrunching her face up cutely. Of course, she took no offense to it, nor did she mean offense by laughing. It was possible that she didn't even know HOW to offend someone. "It's short for Winifred. People just... always used to call me Fred."
"Fred seems to suit you." Janna smiled. More so then Winifred, and definitely more then Fredericka, which Janna was relieved to learn wasn't the name the girl had been burdened with.
"Thank you." Fred smiled bashfully. "Janna's a nice name, as well. Different." Clearly she hadn't complimented someone in a while. "D'you mind if I ask where you were headin'?"
"Wasn't headed in any specific direction. Were you headed for somewhere in particular?" Janna asked back. If not, the little she wolf knew she wouldn't mind the girl's company for longer then a few short minutes. There was just something about Fred that attracted her to the girl. Something beyond her cuteness and adorability.
"No place whatsoever," Fred admitted with a giggle. She was purely out for the sake of it, which was a good sign, really. It was as if she was ready and willing to go out in the world on her own. "I've got an awful craving for ice cream, though, if you wanna come with."
"As long as they've got Jamoca Almond Fudge I won't mind at all." Janna replied with a pleasant smile to Fred. That was her favorite flavor ice cream in all the world, and Janna could eat a bowlful almost anytime, anywhere.
"That's awfully specific," Fred pointed out. She had simple tastes herself, anything chocolate based and she'd be in heaven. "But we'll see what we can find," she added, leading Janna down the street, thinking she saw a place in her travels.
"Guess I just have strange tastes in some things." Janna commented as she walked beside Fred as the girl guided them toward the place she had remembered seeing in her travels of the streets.
"So, are you originally from around here, Fred?" Janna asked as the pair walked in the direction of the ice cream place.
"No. I only came here for school." Which seemed so long ago now... "I'm a Texan Girl, through and through." Fred looked toward the other woman and smiled, curling her hair behind her ear. "What about you? Judgin' from your accent, I wouldn't say that you were a local."
"I'm from Chicago myself." Janna told her. "Guess you could say that's as far from being a California native as one can get." She added half jokingly.
Fred giggled and tried to stifle her laugh behind her hand. In Pylea, she didn't have much reason to laugh, so it was an adjustment to do it now. "I guess so. It's a nice accent though." Before the conversation could get any sweeter, however... "Oh! Here we are. I knew that I wasn't hallucinating."
"Thank you." Janna grinned to the girl with a reach for the door to open it so Fred could step inside first with Janna following the girl in.
"What brings YOU here, if you don't mind me askin'?" Fred asked, before ordering herself a double chocolate chip iced cream. Oh yes, she was going to be in chocolate heaven now, wasn't she?
"Guess you could say I moved out here just for want of a change of scenery." Janna answered after ordering herself a double scoop of Jamoca Almond Fudge, which she was pleased to find the place actually served it. With her having just met Fred, Janna wasn't wanting to pull the girl into any of her problems or troubles. Probably the last thing Fred would be needing at the moment.
"Well then you couldn't've picked a better place for that," Fred replied, honestly just taking what Janna said at face value. She wasn't one to pry, anyway. Paying for the ice cream, she led the other girl outside to the seating area, figuring they could use a good sit down.
"The weather definitely is preferable out here then what we get back in Chicago." Janna shared with the other girl once they were seated at one of the outdoor tables. Something you couldn't do year round back in the Windy City.
"I'm still gettin' used to it," Fred admitted. She somehow managed to lick around her ice cream so she didn't get any drips. "What about work? Or fun? What'd you do for fun?"
"Presently I'm still one of the unemployed." Janna told her after swallowing down a spoonful of her ice cream. "There's a club, Avarice, I go to occasionally. I also like going to the beach which, as opposed to Chicago, can be done pretty much year round." Janna smiled.
Fred smiled and stopped eating momentarily. Stupid ice cream headaches... "Call us: unemployed party of two, then." She giggled. "Y'know, it's funny. I've lived here for a while now, and I still haven't gone to the beach." That made her weird, didn't it? "What's Avarice?"
"Well, then that's a must. In fact I'm going to insist on taking you there just for the experience." Janna smiled over to the other girl. "And Avarice is a club. Pretty popular among the locals, if you like that kind of scene and music."
"I wouldn't say 'no' to the first part," Fred admitted with a blush, ducking her head slightly. "And what kind've seen an' music might that be? I'm guessin' it's probably more energetic than I'm used to." Then again, she'd heard some of Maddie's CD's lately and found she didn't dislike them as much as she thought she might, given the genre.
"It's definitely got that energetic atmosphere." Janna told her. "If you like that hard rock sound, then you'd probably like Avarice. Best way to experience it is to actually go there." Janna stated before consuming more of her ice cream.
"Alright, well, I'll keep that in mind," Fred replied with a big smile, before devouring some more of her ice cream as well. Who knew that such a small thing could eat so much?
