Who: Ronan & Deacon
When: Wednesday Evening, 12/1
Where: The Beach
As was his habit, Deacon was usually up long before the other guard assigned to protect and watch over Andais. However, that morning he woke much earlier than his usual 11 or noon rising in a cold sweat. His tri-color gaze tried to take comfort in the familiar walls of his quarters with their rock band posters and other assorted artwork he'd collected over his long years. But it was hard to dispel the feeling of paralyzing cold and trapped feeling of the water filling box from the Hall of Morality.
The guard splashed warm water on his face in the bathroom and then made his way downstairs dressed only in a pair of black jeans and a white beater. He paused, briefly, at one of the easy chairs where he'd left his blazer and fished out his pack of cigarettes and headed out to the beach. Once he hit the sane, he stopped to tap out a cigarette, stick it between his lips and light it up. As he was putting the pack away, Deacon noticed his left hand was trembling. He exhaled smoke sharply, watching the hand before he clenched it into an angry fist, "Stop it!" He said to seemingly no one and took a drag on the cigarette.
Ronan was always the first of Rozenwyn's guards up as well. He checked in on Rozenwyn and checked all the wards after he got up and got dressed in a pair of sweat pants and a black tanktop. He let his blond hair fall around his face as he headed down to the kitchen and got himself some juice. He knew that he had a few hours before Rozenwyn would wake up and wanted to go for a run on the beach. He glanced around the house and scratched the head of Andais's puppy. "What are you doing out here... shouldn't you be with your master?" he asked with a chuckle before heading out the back door, keeping the puppy in the house. He wasn't about to let her puppy get lost. He valued his hide, even if Rozenwyn had made it clear to Andais long ago that he'd never be under her knife.
He walked out onto the beach as he pulled his hair back, seeing Deacon. He arched a brow. "You look like you've seen a ghost." he said as he stood next to the other man. He had no idea what was going on with the man. But he knew Deacon from years of serving by his side.
Whatever he'd let slip on his face, Deacon rectified by schooling his features; A lesson quickly learned in the faerie court. One always had to be careful of what was said and done at court and the fact that he'd let his fear show was an idication he was spending too much time away from the sithen. Then again, Deacon had thought he was alone.
The guard cleared his throat, strangling a dry laugh in the back of it, "Yeah, uh...bad dream." Deacon glanced at Ronan and took a drag on his cigarette while running the hand that had been trembling through his hair. The guard started stretching to relieve the vestiges of the nightmare and sleep.
He nodded his head as he looked at the other guard. He understood bad dreams. He had his own ghosts that followed him around. He didn't say a word about it though. "I believe that Rozenwyn may speak to the king about replacing your partner... because he seems to be scared of Andais. More so than he had been before..." he said as he clasped his hands together and settled them on the top of his head.
The guard watched his toes wriggle in the sand as Ronan spoke and then a noise was made with his tongue at the other guards comment. Deacon exhaled more smoke just before quipping back, "Only the Goddess knows how the hell he got assigned to Andais is beyond me. He's shown nothing but incompetency." Deacon sighed, scratching at his head and reluctantly added, "Granted, she doesn't make it easy sometimes...."
He nodded his head. "He is fairly incompetent. But at least he can help keep up the wards until he is replaced. I would not trust him to escort Rozenwyn anywhere, but that is my own paranoia speaking." he said as he looked out at the water. "She made the other Princess promise not to bother her father with it right now, I overheard them talking in the kitchen the other night." he added simply.
Deacon admitted after Ronan mentioned the two princesses discussing the replacement of the other guard, "I had been meaning to discuss that with Andais." The guard took another pull off the cigarette, "But, the past week has been rather...eventful." That was putting it mildly. The memory of the other night came rushing back to Deacon and he started to chuckle, "You should've seen his face, Ronan, it was like I was the Master of Punishments in the flesh."
"You should speak to her about that. It does not affect me as much as it does you, but perhaps replace him and get another guard as well? I've been getting bad feelings, though it might just be the moon." He arched a brow as he looked at him whenever he chuckled. "What did you do to him? I have not heard this tale." he said as he looked out at the water. "And what did he do to earn his punishment?"
He nodded in agreement and said, "Yes, I think it would be best to discuss it with her tonight." Deacon didn't foresee a problem in requesting a replacement since Andais detested the other guard. He sobered a little, however, when he continued to look back on that night, taking a final pull on the cigarette and flicking it away. "Andais didn't want me around that evening." He shrugged, "So, I went out. Which I regret, by the way." Deacon added hastily and continued, "I come back, he's pacing frantically in the living room, the puppy is running around him like it's a game." The guard glanced to Ronan, "It didn't take a rocket scientist to know what happened and I yelled at him...it my own way." His lips twitched at the last bit seeing as Deacon never yelled at anyone in anger in his life.
He nodded his head. "So she disappeared on him again. He should not be left in charge of her if she chooses to disappear on him. Part of protecting her is having her trust as well..." he said as he ran his fingers through his hair. "Especially since she is capable of doing it more effectively than anyone else at court." he said with a small snicker. He couldn't help but be glad that his charge was not able to disappear into the very night air. That would make guarding her whenever he wasn't wanted around very hard indeed. "He was just pacing? Not out looking for her? And he expected what, her to just come back to him on her own?" he asked shaking his head.
"Which is why I regret going out that night," Deacon said with a sigh and nodded in agreement with all that Ronan said and added, "Incompetent, remember?" He shook his head and chuckled, making a mental note to speak to Andais that evening about replacing the other guard. He was hoping to offer a few suggestions, when Deacon piped up again, "Oh, I sent him out to look for her. On the off chance he didn't find her, I remained at the house in case she got back before he did."
He looked over at the man. "You cannot blame yourself for what she chooses to do. Especially if she wanted you not to be around. She could have just as easily disappeared on you or me. Though she does not seem to want to disappear on you most times." he said as he shrugged. "I do not envy you your charge." he said shaking his head.
Deacon didn't fault Ronan's criticism's in the least. Most of the guards that didn't stay long with Andais essentially felt the same. The elemental fae shrugged, "Yes, Andais is...stubborn...at times, but not all the time." Deacon grinned, "I can hardly say that my job is ever boring around her." The guard joked.
Ronan couldn't help but chuckle. "I'm not really sure how you manage... though I don't think she's nearly as bad as what some of the other guards have said about her. I've been close enough to her for some time that I don't think that they're seeing exactly who she is, only who she chooses for them to see." he said as he put his hands in his pockets. "Just as people only see what Rozenwyn wishes for people to see."
The guard nodded in agreement, a soft smile donning his lips. "There is far more to Andais than what she let's others see." But, of course, Deacon was biased in this opinion, perhaps, as he'd only been by her side since the day the elemental fae had been assigned to guard her.
He nodded his head. "She and Rozenwyn get along very well as well. It is good to have someone around for Roz to talk to besides me. Not that I do not wish for her to talk to me... it is just good for the pair." he said with a nod. "I'm sure that they'd both be a little lost if not for the other." He had been by Rozenwyn's side since the day that she had been born. He had guarded her mother before her. He could understand the bias of the other man and had his own biases as well.
Again, Deacon nodded in agreement. He had often wondered over the years how differently things would be if the two princesses were not such close friends. Would Andais be worse than she was now or the same? At any rate, it was blessing that both Andais and Rozenwyn were inseparable.
The guard breathed deep, just barely tasting the salty tang of the ocean on the back of his tongue. Speaking with Ronan had been calming to shove aside the last of his nightmare and he turned to move back into the house, "I better go check on Andais." Deacon gave the other guard a nod, "Have a good run."
He nodded his head as he looked over at him. "You have a good evening." he said as he began stretching. He was glad that he at least had one other guard to talk to whenever they were out in the Human world. Once the other man disappeared towards the house, he started running down the beach, planning to be home before Rozenwyn was ready to do anything that evening.
