Homecoming
Who: Jared, introducing Piper Delany
Where: LAX
When: Wednesday Evening - November 24
Disembarking with the rest of the passengers with her carry on bag shouldered as she exited the plane, Piper followed the small crowd of people toward the luggage area to wait by the conveyor for her suitcase to rotate around once it had been unloaded from the plane she had flown in on from England. And while the flight had been long and tedious, Piper managed to remain in good spirits with the thought of reunited with her father after so much time having been spent apart. It had only been through several overseas conversations that Piper had finally persuaded her father to let her come home for go and not just on holiday or for a special occasion. It wasn't that she hated the boarding school her father sent her to, Piper had actually managed to fit in quite well among the student body, it was more that she missed her father greatly. Even the many phones calls between them did nothing to ease that.
Jared had missed his daughter as well, but he always worried about having her close in LA. Wolfram & Hart was known for using employee's children against them, and he didn't want to put Piper in that position. However, she had insisted, and she had learned to argue from her father. He had managed to explain to her that she had to be somewhat careful when she was in LA, and was more than happy when they both decided for her to come home on a more permanent basis. When he saw her disembark at the airport, he headed over to her.
With one bag shouldered and the handle of the other gripped securely within her hand, Piper moved slowly away from the circling conveyor with the intent of meeting her father in the pick-up area of the airport. Her leisurely walk, though, didn't last long because when she glanced up and ahead of her she caught a glimpse of the man himself.
"Dad!" She exclaimed loudly dropping her bags breaking into a run as she rushed toward her father. This was very unlike the Piper as she didn't normal express her emotions so openly. Such open displays of affection or emotion were usually foreign to Piper as she seemed to have inherited her father's calm, quiet demeanor.
His slow walk didn't last very long, either. Frankly, the two of them really only showed any sort of emotion and affection toward each other most of the time. They seemed to prefer each other's company to most other people's. When they reached each other, he wrapped her up in a hug, having missed her since he hadn't seen her since the summer. He smiled down at her when he released her. "So, how was school before you left for good?" he asked her somewhat playfully.
Piper squeaked with delight, something she never did, when her father caught her in a hug. This thought wasn't just a visit made by one to the other. This was real. Permanent. She wasn't going back to England at the end of a few short days. She was here to stay. Back with her father where she had always felt she belonged. "Still standing." She returned with a little bit of a smirk. "But I don't want to talk about that now, I want to hear all about how you've been." She smiled tenderly up to him. That school in England was no longer of any importance to Piper. The only thing that did matter to the girl, probably the only important matter in her young life, was her father.
Even with his own worry, he couldn't help but be happy to have her there with him permanently as well. She was old enough now to understand the risks of his work and take care of herself if necessary. "You know me. All I do is work when you're not around," he joked with her as they headed out of the airport. When she was home, he tended to find more time to focus on her.
"I'm going to see that that changes." She joked back with a smile after having retrieved her bags and starting the walk out of the airport with her father. Though she was loving being home and having her father mostly to herself again, that was one thing Piper wouldn't try with him. His work was what kept him going and Piper wasn't about to interfere with that too much. She would just make the most of the time they would have together. To her it was the quality, not the quantity of time that matter to her.
"That is something that I wouldn't mind changing a bit at all," Jared admitted. Jared loved his work, but he also wanted to spend time with his daughter. He was sure that he could work something out with the firm, after all. They were understanding for other people's children. One reason that he worked so much was that he didn't have a reason to go home too often. He didn't even keep plants around his home because of that.
