Making Up For Lost Time
Who: Skylar and Pat
Where: Pat's Place
When: Friday, Nov. 26th
We'll be generous and just say it had been an INTERESTING couple of weeks for Pat McConnell.Between the drama with Patience leaving (which honestly, he STILL hadn't let himself truly grieve over), his new blossoming relationship with Baily, his hiring of a live-in Nanny (who was out with little Cash right now, actually)... it had been a whirlwind. Now, he was spread out on his living room sofa, watching a Raiders game, waiting for Skylar to arrive, as she was bringing little Bella to spend a few days with him, which he'd been looking very forward to.
Maybe it was that she didn't have to think about Patience being there and possibly trying to kill her again, but now Skylar was bringing by Bella a lot more to Pat's house. OK, even if she had apologized, Skylar would be more willing to come by more. Since that PROBABLY wasn't going to happen, she'd take this. She knocked on Pat's door, holding Bella on her hip with a diaper bag slung over her shoulder.
"C'mon in..." Pat called out as he pointed a small remote at the door and clicking it, which made the mechanism in it unlock said door. "Make yourself at home, Sky."
Isn't technology awesome? Somehow, Skylar was able to turn the nob, setting Bella down as soon as she did and watched as the toddler toddled her way inside the house. Skylar dropped the bag by the door. "So, how are you doing?" she asked, walking inside and plopping down on the sofa.
"Honestly?" Somehow... he was always able to open up to Skylar in a brutally honest way he couldn't to anyone else. "I feel like shit. I still feel like... like I had to have done something wrong. I know I didn't, but... I just keep feeling like I wasn't good enough to keep her around."
Skylar gave a slight sigh. At least he felt like he could be honest with someone, huh? "Well, reiterating again that you did nothing won't necessarily bring the point home, although you didn't." She watched Bella as she dug through the diaper bag to find one of her toys. "Her problem was that she couldn't handle what she had become. It overwhelmed her. I know I didn't help with my general bitchiness to her, but it was going to pop out at some point, anyway. Iris...god bless her, didn't do ANYTHING to bring forth that wrath."
"Iris... she's been my rock through this. She's been the main voice of reason." He laughed. "I mean, I have you and Jack, and now Baily..." He wasn't sure HOW much Skylar knew, but being Ben's wife, he guessed a LOT. "But Iris just somehow always knows exactly what I need to hear."
Oh, Skylar knew ALL, since Ben had actually cackled gleefully over the fact that Baily, normally voice of non-emotion, wanted to go on that show for him. Not that she was going to tease Pat *too* badly over it. Well...not much..."At least you've got a support system around you." This time, she added mentally. Last time Patience had run off, he really ONLY had Iris, to her understanding.
"I just hope... if she ever comes back, she doesn't expect me to just drop everything." From how she left her wedding band behind... he suspected that wasn't the case. "I'm not sure WHAT me and Baily have here... but I know I'm not ready or willing to give it up."
"Then don't," Skylar said simply. "Look, I honestly hope that Patience gets her shit together and comes back simply for Cash's sake. No baby should grow up without a mother if she's still out there." She glanced toward Bella again, who had dug out a teddy bear to snuggle and babble at. "If she does, though, explain that her leaving changed things between the two of you. She's left twice now...can you trust her?"
"Exactly." Also... he wasn't ready to admit this to ANYONE yet, but the chemistry he had with Baily was something he hadn't felt since first hooking up with Patience back in Sunnydale.
If she had heard that, she may have just laughed, but anyway..."As long as you realize it, that's the first step." That was all she had to say about that for now. "So, what are you planning to do with the kids this weekend?"
"Just try to be the best dad I can. I was thinking of giving the nanny the weekend off with pay, and just trying to be a normal stay-at-home dad this weekend." He smiled, giving a casual shrug. "Not one minute that isn't with the kids, you know?"
She smirked. "You are SO adorable when you get all 'daddy' like," she said. OK, was she still physically attracted to him? Duh. He was still as hot as ever. Would she go there if given the chance? Nope. Loved Ben too much. "Sounds like a good time, actually." Even though she had Helena, Skylar actually spend much of her days that weren't band busy with her own children.
"So... how's things with Ben? You guys still all... ridiculously into each other?" He teased, finding it kind of cute how almost magnetic the two seemed to be.
Skylar nodded. "As ridiculous as ever." They were still mauling each other in Saints & Sinners about once a week, plus all the ridiculous sexing going on at home, after all. "Still planning on defiling Ben's office with Baily again any time soon? I need to know when to call the cleaners in so Ben doesn't bitch that the smell of his cousin is all over the place and ruining the mood." And that was her zinger.
"Well..." Luckily Pat wasn't even PHASED. "Baily said since she was the only Bale who's stank WASN'T all over that office already, she might as well finally be like the REST of the family..."
Skylar just laughed. "Ben had a minor snit fit over that," she said, still grinning. "I think if he wasn't related to her, it wouldn't have been nearly as bad, though." Plus, werewolf pheromones were INTENSELY strong to those who could smell them. "Kinda funny when someone can make Ben have a fit over anything sexual, though. It's an interesting change."
"Yeah, I heard about how he almost blew a gasket when that future!daughter of yours nabbed herself a boyfriend..." Pat laughed, picturing Ben being all 50s-dad.
Skylar snorted. "I'm honestly not sure he completely knows how to react to worrying about someone possibly having sexual interest in someone and freaking out over it." Probably what makes him react so heavily to it.
"It's still HILARIOUS. Ash and I laughed for an hour over it, actually." He snorted, covering his mouth so as not to guffaw.
"I can only imagine," Skylar said with a smirk. "Especially since Brandie seems to have picked someone so similar to Ash that it seems to set off something weird in Ben." Weird and kinda of funny, from Skylar's perspective.
"I miss hangin' out, you know." He admitted, turning the game off to put on some cartoon to keep Bella's attention. "I know things haven't been... stellar between us lately, but I wanna change that." Especially if he was gonna be nailing someone in her family now, after all...
"I know they haven't been, and I freely admit to that...well, partially being my fault." That was as good as it was going to get folks. Take it and run away. "I want to change that, too. Not just for Bella's sake. I miss hanging with you, too."
"Well, let's get to work on fixing that then." He smiled sadly, trying not to turn this into a Pity-Poor-Pat party. "I'm sick of losing people I care about."
"I'm more than happy to get some work done on that," Skylar said with a smile of her own.
