First Date
Who: Hamilton and Juliet
Where: Avarice, then a nearby diner
When: Thursday, November 4th - Evening
As arranged, Hamilton made his way into Avarice Thursday night, a good fifteen minutes before he'd arranged with Juliet, dressed in jeans, a white dress shirt tucked in at the waist and a nice jacket. His hair was actually styled nicely tonight, and he had made sure he'd eaten beforehand. He went over to the bar and spoke briefly to one of the bartenders. Of course, none of them had seen Juliet, based on how he described her, which... didn't give him much confidence.
Juliet arrived at Avarice about fifteen minutes after Hamilton found his way into the club. And she wasn't exactly dressed to impress anyone. To the red head this was just a meeting up with a guy she had met a couple nights back to have a casual dinner with. And the outfit she chose that night just seemed to represent that to Juliet.
Not spying the man when she entered the club, Jules made her way over toward the bar as that was her best guess as to where she'd find the guy if he was already inside Avarice.
He scented her long before he caught sight of her, and when he finally did see her, he wasn't the least bit upset by her appearance. If anything, he was surprised that she'd come at all. There was something different about her that he couldn't quite put his finger on. He approached her slowly, giving her a chance to see him, before speaking: "Hello, Juliet."
"He arrived on time and remembered my name." Juliet teased lightly when Hamilton approached and greeted her. "You look well this evening." The red head commented. He did have a slight paleness to his face, but not pale enough that it made him look sickly or anything. Not all men were sun addicts who felt a bronzed body was a must have. And those were exactly the types Juliet tended to stay away from as they, in her opinion, were more into themselves then the woman they might be with.
"Well, I can't help it but think that I didn't make the best impression the first time around," he admitted. "I can only hope that my punctuality will be the first of many things this evening to change your first impression about me." God, that sounded awfully formal, didn't it? As previously mentioned, he'd mostly fallen into the modern terminology. It was actually nice to meet someone who had the Old World sensibilities that he did.
"I think you're off to a relatively good start, Hamilton." Juliet smiled casually to the man. "What were your plans for the early part of this evening? Sit and have a drink or two or had you planned on having dinner first?" Juliet would be satisfied with either of those two choices. She was hungry, but not at the famished point where she was dying to get something into her stomach.
"I think I'd rather we had something in our stomach's first." Well, he'd rather that she'd eaten something first, but he'd keep up... being human for appearance's sake. "If not dinner, then perhaps a snack, if we were to drink alcohol."
"Dinner works well for me." She answered. And with that they could enjoy whichever alcoholic beverage they chose to go with it. "Was there a place you had in mind?" As long as it was relatively public, Juliet wouldn't really care which restaurant Hamilton chose for them to dine at.
"There's a diner not far from here. A family place. Or... if you'd rather, you can chose where we go, if that makes you feel more comfortable," he offered. He was quite desperate for her to be comfortable, whereever they went.
"As long as they have good food I don't think you'll be hearing any complaints from me." Jules smiled to the man as this was quite the improvement from their first meeting. Just goes to show that one shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. "Shall we then?" She asked with a quick glance back toward the way she had come in.
"They have excellent food," he assured her, crooking his arm in a surprisingly gentlemanly fashion to lead her outside. Sure, he lived on human blood but that didn't mean that he didn't have wonderful taste in food. "And we shall."
Yes, Hamilton was quite the different man then his first impression had led Juliet to perceive him as. "Yes." She answered with a slight nod as she gently took the man's offered arm. The night was looking better and better to Juliet.
He smiled and led her outside to the diner, it was definitely a family establishment. It was full of warmth and what most people would perceive as love. Perhaps that's why Hamilton liked it so much, because it reminded him so much of his human life. He smiled as he walked with her, "It's a balmy evening, isn't it? … And I can't believe that I just brought up the weather." He chuckled lightly.
"It's a better topic then some you could have brought up." Jules smiled over to the guy as they walked the street toward the diner. General conversation at the moment suited her just fine. "Not all that balmy out to not be able to enjoy a walk outside." She replied casually.
"Very true. And may I say that you look lovely this evening," he complimented her. Sure, she'd dressed casually for their 'date' but he found her look attractive, nevertheless. He slowed their pace slightly, idly wondering if the Culann's still owned the diner that he liked so much. Being werewolves, they knew what he was, and although they'd come to an arrangement, he wondered if the family would stick to it. Oh well, only one way to find out.
"Thank you." Juliet offering the man a smile at his compliment. "And I must say I'm enjoying the man tonight more then the one I met a couple nights ago." It was an admittance Juliet didn't mind sharing with the man. She was, for the most part, a truthful woman, and denying the attraction she felt toward the man would be a foolish act on her part. Not many men she encounter had the traits Hamilton seemed to possess. Gentlemen were certainly a rarity as far as Jules was concerned.
He chuckled, his smile reaching his eyes. If he could, he might have blushed then. "I am too. I don't know when my approach to women changed." Actually, he had some idea, but... didn't think it was best to tell her that straight away. "But I'm glad you gave me a chance to prove that I'm not, excuse my language, a complete asshole." Finally at the diner, he opened the door for her to go inside first.
"I wouldn't say you had been a complete one," Juliet responded as she stepped in through the open door, "but you have redeemed yourself in my eyes." She just hoped with all the honesty being exchanged back and forth that the night would continue going as well as it appeared to be going.
He chuckled again as he led her inside, giving the young brunette waitress a respectful nod. "Would you rather sit at a booth or table?" He asked. He liked the idea of pulling a chair out for her (Old World sensibilities, you see), but he'd rather that she felt comfortable more than anything.
"Something near the back." Jules answered. Whether it was a booth or table didn't really matter to the woman as long as they were seated near the back where they might be allotted a little more privacy.
"Certainly," he replied, leading her over to a table near the back, politely offering to take her jacket and draping it over her chair before... yes, pulling out said chair for her (if he had a heartbeat, it would have been racing a mile a minute at this point).
When they reached the table Jules slipped out of her leather jacket revealing a simple black t-shirt. Once the outer garment had been removed from her hands and generously hung on the back of her chair, Juliet gracefully sat down when Hamilton did the gentlemenly thing and pulled it out from the table for her. "This place seems real nice." The auburn haired woman commented to her companion for the evening giving the man a soft smile when she looked to him. She might have stated differently if Jules had noted a couple pairs of eyes momentarily fixed their way.
Once she was situated, he took off his jacket and draped it around his own chair. He subtly looked over to the few people who were watching them and arched an eyebrow, before sitting opposite her. "It is. It's a family run business, which you'll find, apart from a few choice establishments, is rare for Los Angeles."
"It's got that feel to it." Jules remarked before taking a sip of her water. "Like the customer would come first." The young woman added just as a waitress appeared at their table with a couple menus, which were placed on the table in front of each of them. The dark haired waitress then inquired if they might like something to drink before ordering. Juliet took the moment and ordered herself a lemonade.
Hamilton would have preferred blood, despite the fact that he'd already eaten, but... opted for a Coca Cola himself (and yes, he used the full name), since his date wasn't going for anything heavier, herself, before the waitress disappear on them. "Exactly," he smiled. "It's more personal. And, while not a spectacular segue, I'd like to ask: do you have any family, Juliet?"
"Folks back east and a brother actually here in L.A. Kind of came out here to visit," or rather do surveillance for a certain job, "and ended up sticking around longer then I thought I would. What about you, Hamilton?"
"That sounds nice. Are you and your brother close?" Before he let her answer, of course, he answered her question as honestly as he could. "Unfortunately I don't have any family left," which was true, although he didn't go into specifics for a reason, "I do have a small collection of friends here that I like to keep in touch with, though."
"That's better then being alone in a strange city." At least neither of them found that they were isolated from the rest of the world by not knowing a soul in the City of Angels. "I suppose you could say that." Jules said with a smile. Sure there had been that stretch of time where they hadn't kept in touch with each other, but once she reunited with Patrick all that time just seemed to have evaporated into nothing. It'd been like they hadn't been apart at all.
"Well, to be fair, I've always liked it here," he admitted with a smile. The waitress returned to take their orders and he let Juliet order first, before ordering himself (a steak [medium rare], with vegetables and potatoes). "But I have a terrible habit of not staying in the same place for an extended period of time," he admitted.
"I wish I had the inclination and resources to travel at a whim." Jules told him after ordering herself a ham and turkey club and bowl of soup. "There are many places I would like to visit." The auburn haired thief found herself admitting to the vampire. "What's the most interesting place you found yourself in?" She asked as the waitress stepped away from the table with their food orders.
"I invest well," he explained simply. It actually took a lot of effort on his part to keep track of all of his accounts. He'd considered hiring an assistant, but wasn't sure how to go about it. He considered Juliet's question for a moment, "If I'm being honest, the most interesting would be Amsterdam. The people there are... quite relaxed," he smirked. "The most beautiful would be Anchorage, I think."
"I would have thought a well seasoned traveller like yourself would have found Europe most beautiful." Jules said with a soft smile. Not that she had ever been there herself, but most people seemed to travel to Europe rather then Alaska, so there had to be some kind of attraction that kept drawing them back.
"True, pick any place in Europe and you're sure to find something there that's quite stunning." He'd briefly considered telling her that Paris was beautiful... but, that was a lie. He didn't find it beautiful. "There's a natural beauty to Anchorage, as well as a … well, human influence, that I find quite appealing."
"And yet you're back her in Los Angeles?" If she had found Anchorage such a magnificent place Jules didn't think she'd ever want to return to L.A., much less her home back east.
"Well, I like it here too. Especially now that I've met you... as cornball as that sounds," he chuckled lightly. "Since, what is life without human companionship?"
Jules half smirked/half smiled at that as she took a sip of her drink. Setting the glass back down she seemed to contemplate something with a downcast of her eyes. "One certainly can't live their life without some kind of companionship. Not sure, though, that I'd stick around in one place for someone. At least I've never met anyone who had me considering such a move." Juliet voiced as she looked back up at the man sitting across from her.
"I've never considered that either," he admitted. Of course, that just made it easier for him to move when the time came. Sure, he had friends here, but if he wanted to get into contact with them, then he'd just pick up a phone. "But, in saying that, I'm also open to the possibility."
"I think a person should be open to the possibility." Juliet said in return. Not that she was on the hunt for that kind of companionship, but Jules wasn't about to completely rule it out.
"Then I think that's something we have in common," he replied with a soft smile, meeting her eyes to show his sincerity. He leaned back in his chair a moment later as the waitress reappeared with their dinner, politely thanking her before she left. "Before we start, may I be so bold as to say that if anything, this is the start of a beautiful friendship?" Sure, they both knew he wanted more, but baby steps...
Juliet smiled to him. "Somehow, I think nothing would be able to deter you from speaking your mind, Hamilton." A trait that Juliet unexpectedly found to be an admired attribute of the man. It was a straight forwardness that most men seemed to lack.
"I suppose you'll find out in due course," he replied. He caught her gaze briefly, thinking that she had a lovely smile before allowing her to tuck into her meal first. It seemed she brought back some of those old sensibilities in him that he'd somehow lost over the decades. It was... an oddly nice feeling, and he hoped that it would last.
