Where Isabella Lays Down the Law
Who: Gabriel and Isabella
Where: The Hyperion – One of the training areas
When: Nov. 7th, Evening
Isabella had heard a lot of rumors in her life, but she knew enough to know whether or not a rumor was true. Knowing Gabriel and Kayla's training schedule, she made her way to their assigned room, not at all surprised to see Gabriel there and shut the door behind her, clearly in Drill Sargent mode here. Her face stern and unreadable. "We need to talk. And by talk, I mean, you need to listen."
Unlike most of the younger girls, Gabriel had no real fear of Isabella. If something actually came to blows between them (he doubted it, but who knew with her), he could turn to shadow and she couldn't touch him. He had been waiting for Kayla to arrive and, when Isabella stormed in, he merely arched an eyebrow at her. "If you think you can tell me what to do, you're sorely mistaking. Feel free to talk none the less." He was pretty sure he knew what this was about. He had been preparing for it for a while.
She actually sneered, not entirely unlike Kayla then, herself. "It's my job to tell you what to do, Mr. Burgess," oh dear, she'd gone back to formalities, "and it's your job to listen. I'll make this brief."
"Delightful," he said. "Then get on with it." It may be her job to tell him what to do, but that didn't mean that he was necessarily willing to listen. He crossed his arms across his chest and nodded to her, indicating for her to get on with it.
She took in a breath and let it out slowly, "Obviously, rules about Watcher/Slayer relationships have been a little... lax lately, since there are so many Slayers now. And I can't say that Kayla's... behavior has changed for the worse recently, but, I am not particularly fond of the idea of you two hunting together."
He raised an eyebrow at her. This wasn't quite what he was expecting. "And why is that, may I ask?"
She surprised herself a little there, honestly. She'd been fully prepared to chew him out. Then again, they hadn't finished talking now, had they? "Simple. You would be too invested in each other. One of you would make a mistake and die, and I'd rather prevent that, wouldn't you?"
After letting that sink in for a moment, he could actually see where the idea was coming from. "Suppose I understand where you are coming from. I still don't want her going out on her own. Yes I know she can technically take care of herself, but going out in groups instead of alone is always preferable."
"Indeed," she agreed. "I'll discuss it with Catherine." She'd briefly considered sending Bethany or Sin out with Kayla, but... while family, they weren't exactly there to do her bidding. At least as the leader, Catherine would be able to discuss the matter with her as an adult, rather than... well, than a child.
He nodded. Out of any of the girls, Catherine seemed to completely have her head on her shoulders straight. (If only he knew what was going on, eh?) "I'm sure she'll be happy to accompany Kayla out on patrols." Plus, the both of them could stand to have a few more friends.
"Good," she replied with a stern nod. "If Kayla should happen to take a turn for the worse, Mr. Burgess, or if you two have a falling out," ie. Break up, "Then we'll revisit this conversation, and I assure you, it will be less pleasant."
"I have no intention of either of those things happening," he said to her. Which, honestly, was partially why he tried to be fine with Kayla occasionally going to Chloe and whomever else she went to now.
"We'll see how that works out," she said cooly, before turning to leave.
