Costume Shopping
Who: Miranda and Clark
Where: Random Costume Store
When: Backdated to Tuesday Afternoon - October 5 *blush*
"You know I think this is an actual first." Miranda commented with a bit of a cocky grin as she pulled into one of the spots in the parking lot of the costume store. "Usually you're the one dragging me out shopping somewhere." And if it weren't for the fact that she was having a bitch of a time finding a costume for the up coming Regan High Halloween bash, Miranda probably wouldn't have dragged Clark out on a little shopping excursion this afternoon.
Clark let out a girlish little laugh and shook his head, "Alas, no. I have a partner selecting my costume for me, so you Best Friend status won't be required." It probably didn't help that he referred to the girl he was 'dating' as a 'partner' in terms of his sexual preference, huh? "BUT. I'm always happy to help you, sweetie," he added as he stepped out of the car.
"Whoa. Hold on there." Miranda looked over in Clark's direction not really believing she heard what she thought she heard. "You have a date for the dance?" She inquired over the hood of the car after scrambling out of the vehicle. And why was she only finding that out now. He was her BFF and she should be told things like this immediately.
"I'm sorry!" He practically flailed. "It came on kinda suddenly. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, BUT, sudden means that I haven't had the time to process, which means that I haven't had the chance to tell you, so: Sorry." Ramble much?
"Just tell me you haven't flipped the fence." He had said partner afterall and not date. "Cause I don't know if I could take that. After knowing you all these years to find out you not who I thought you were. That would just crush me to the core." Miranda feigned the look of pure heartbreak. Leaning back into the car to she grabbed her shoulder bag before closing and securing the door.
Clark just laughed and rolled his eyes. "I got to talking to Bethany Bale the other day… cute little redhead? To die for smile? And I kinda-sorta-asked-her-out-in-a-roundabou
"Bethany Bale, Hmm? Sounds like someone is quite smitten with a certain redhead." Miranda grinned as she started the walk toward the entrance of the shop. There weren't all that many redheads attending Regan High so Miranda was sure she had seen the girl in passing within the corridors of the school.
"Ohmygod," he giggled and looped her arm with his, "I tried to play it cool and aloof, but those two words shouldn't be in my vocabulary. Because they DIDN'T work. I felt like I was a complete doofus." He took in a breath. "I don't mean to babble, and ordinarily I'd LOVE to go with you to the dance, honey, but: I like this girl. She's cute and sweet and... the kind of girl you just wanna cuddle with." Sigh. Even the MUN thought that was a little gay for phrasing, but... Clark was in his own world. "I'm sure you feel that way about Brad Pitt or... I don't know, Chris Evans?"
"Clark, hate to burst your little flamboyant bubble, but you are a doofus." Miranda teased nudging the boy playfully with a shoulder. "Those guys might be nice, but I'm thinking I'd rather be cuddling up with Mark Wahlberg or Brendan Fraser." The redhead informed her BFF as they reached the entrance of the costume place and stepped inside.
"Oh, they're yummy." Sure, he was straight, but he wasn't BLIND. Something which, few straight men would admit to. "Old school John Cusack too, right?" He giggled. "I could make a few requests, if you want."
"Admit it. He's your boy crush, isn't he." Miranda continuing their line of conversation once they were inside as she started looking through the first rack of costumes they came to.
Clark sighed over-dramatically, "Only if you admit the Never Been Kissed version of Drew Barrymore is yours. Come on. That level of nerd and gorgeous is hard for ANYONE to resist."
"Nope." She grinned. "But I will admit to such about Julia Stiles." One of her favorite movies of all time was 10 Things I Hate About You. Miranda was surprised she hadn't worn the dvd down to unwatchable status seeing how many times she watched the movie.
"Oooh, now SHE'S lovely," Clark replied, pulling a swashbuckling outfit off a rack and wrinkling his nose at it. "As always, I approve of your taste. While we're on the subject of the dance, do you have your eye on anyone, or are you going stag?"
"I had my eye on someone," Miranda smirked grabbing the costume out of the boy's hand to replace on the rack, "but he went and invited some cute little red head to the shindig. And swashbuckling? So not you, Clark."
"I'm sorry," he replied with a very hard to resist pout. "Bethany seemed really excited about meeting you there, though," he offered. "And I know," he sighed dramatically, "I don't make a very good pirate. I just can't say 'booty' without giggling." True to his word, he giggled RIGHT after he said it. "But, what are YOU thinking of wearing this glorious Halloween?"
"I have no clue." Miranda stated as she started rummaging through the racks again. "Maybe something sensible and practical?" The red head questioned more then stated to her BFF. I doubt I would be let out of the house dressed as a slave Princess Leia or something else quite revealing."
"Oh, I'd worship you forever if you somehow managed to do that," Clark replied, actually blushing a little picturing her as Princess Leia. What? He was still a guy! "I suspect Bethany would like to wear something a little on the ... cute side, so I feel confident in suggestion that you go as a princess. Tiara and all." He nodded sternly. This was a serious matter, after all.
"I think you and the male population of the student body would, and then some." Mir smirked back. "I don't know about the princess thing. Don't know if I could pull off a tiara."
"Oh, definitely 'and then some'. I wouldn't be surprised if half of the female population of the school suddenly realised they were gay when they saw you." That was... an odd way to say he thought someone was attractive, wasn't it? "And okay, so no tiara. What about... Xena?" He grinned cheekily.
"You're determined to get me noticed at this dance, aren't you?" Miranda stopped her browsing a moment to look expectantly at her friend.
"Maybe," he admitted. "But would it necessarily be a BAD thing if that happened?" God, he had a little devious streak in him, didn't he?
"You have an evil and impure mind, Clark." Miranda said with a light chuckle and shake of her head. Of course he wouldn't be the Clark she knew and loved if he didn't have a little bit of deviousness in him.
"Sigh. I know. It's a curse," he replied, letting out a dramatic sigh. "Tell you what: Why don't we go to the Sugar Shack and find something sugar-y to fill you with, before we continue our costume search?"
"And what if that perfect costume walks right on out of here while we're filling ourselves with sugar and caffiene?" The red head inquired pulling a Little Red Riding Hood costume off the rack only to return it quickly after giving it a quick glance.
"Hmm, good point. Well, that can be our reward, then," he replied with a grin. Okay, so he also thought one of the barista's there was cute. It seemed that he had a thing for redhead's, hm? "You could be a 40's gangster?" He suggested, pulling an outfit out for her to look at. It was a pinstripe dress, but also had suspenders and a cute, matching hat.
"Now this," Miranda took the costume out of her friend's hands to get a closer look, "I think I could pull off nicely." She grinned. "All I'll need now is a machine gun." She added half jokingly.
"I'm sure we could find something appropriate," he replied with a saucy little grin, actually looking around for a toy gun for her. Okay, it has to be said. This? Was Clark's idea of HEAVEN right here, looking for outfits with his bestie.
"Some way, some how I have faith that you'll find just the right accessory to my costume." Mir grinned back draping the costume over an arm, after checking the size, and setting the hat on her head. She was gonna purchase the whole costume so it should matter if she wore or carried the hat.
"Well, DUH, Mir," Clark giggled. "It's ME you're talking to. Of course I'm going to find you something fabulous." He linked her arm around his as he led her to the toy section.
"Silly me," Miranda responded with a grin, light shake of her head and roll of her eyes, "how could I have doubted your ability in that department." This was one of the reasons she adored shopping with Clark. He made the excursions fun.
"I don't know," he replied, letting out an over-dramatic sigh as he found the toy section. "The question now becomes, do you want a rifle, or a handgun?"
"Machine gun." Mir answered back. "It'll give a little more dramatic feel to the costume." She continued while glancing around the accessory section looking for just that.
"Nice!" Clark replied, before picking a toy machine gun off of the shelf for her. "I'm totally expecting pictures this Halloween. Millions of them!... Okay, not MILLIONS, but a lot."
"Dear bestie of mine how could you think otherwise." The red head grinned as she looked over the weapon Clark confiscated from the shelf. "I think my costume is now complete." And wasn't that a relief. Miranda would have hated it if they had to spend hours in the place looking for a costume just for her.
Clark giggled and grinned, "I'm glad you like it. I think it'll look WONDERFUL on you, Mir." And he really, truly meant that. Wasn't he just the sweetest? "Now, I insist we satiate my desire for coffee. My body demands it."
"What about your costume?" She questioned. Finding hers had been a breeze and left time enough for them to track down something suitable, and a bit on the flamboyant side, for Clark.
Clark chuckled, "Bethany will be picking something out for me." He was actually curious to see what she would come up with. It was... oddly nice not to worry about picking something out for a change.
Well that news brought out a pout. "That is like so not fair. Making me wait til the night of the dance to see what you're going to be for the night." This was, after all, suppose to have been a picking out costumes deal, not costume. One. Meaning singular.
"Imagine how *I* feel!" He flailed with a giggle. "As long as she doesn't dress me up like Rick Astley and make me perform 'Never Gonna Give You Up' all night, I'll be ecstatic."
"The girl would be dead if she tried dressing you up as that guy." Forcing her BBF to dress up as the guy would go beyond the boundaries of good taste in Miranda's mind. "I guess we should pay for this and depart the place so you can satiate your craving for caffeine." Mir said as she started heading for the register.
"Plllllease," he practically begged as he followed behind her. "You'd be my bestest best friend forever and ever and ever..." No wonder people thought he was gay. Sigh.
"Clark. A little reality check here. I am your bestest best friend forever and ever and ever." The red head told him with a glance as she set her purchase down on the counter to be rung up by the cashier.
"Well, aren't I lucky?" He replied with a big flamboyant grin, before practically attaching to her side and hugging her cutely.
"Damn lucky." She shot back with a light nod and a flash of a grin. Paying the woman behind the counter, Miranda then collect her bags and turned once more to Clark. "Lead the way my flamboyant friend." The sooner they took their departure of the costume store, the sooner Clark would be able to infuse himself with caffeine.
