New People, Old Places
Who: Gunn and Maddie, and later introducing Fred
Where: Maddie's Home, Then the Streets of LA
When: Sunday Night, 10/10
Gunn and Maddie had spent the night at Silky's, and had spent *most* of that night having a few beers and dancing way too much to be normal, but it had been an enjoyable evening. However, at three a.m., when Silky's finally closed, which meant that Silky turned on the houselights and told everyone to carry their asses home, Gunn and Maddie had headed back to her place, barely getting through the front door before making out ensued, with him kicking the door shut behind them before lifting her up and getting her legs around his waist and heading toward the general direction of where he remembered her bedroom being.
Maddie giggled when Gunn picked her up, since a) she was still a little tipsy, and b) she LOVED being manhandled. She grinded her hips against his waist as he led them to the bedroom, as always, surprised by the strength and gentleness that he always treated her with. It took some getting used to; she was the first to admit. "Kinda wished we'd gotten home sooner now," she breathed against his lips.
He smirked when she said that she wished that they had gotten home sooner. "Well, that probably would have been a good idea if you hadn't of tried to challenge the bartender to a drinking contest," he teased, setting her down on the bed and pulling her shirt over her head.
She always seemed to like to challenge people to drinking contests, didn't she? Maybe that was because she had a little something extra going for her that gave her a slight advantage over others. She grinned and started unclasping his belt, "I would've won…" Her expression changed almost instantaneously then as she felt a vision come on, "Oh, JesusHChristOnAPopsicleStick…WHY NOW?"
He looked at her confused when she started screaming, and then realized that it was a vision coming on. Damn...really...WHY NOW? "That's the first time I've ever gotten THAT response," he joked as he grabbed onto her to make sure that she didn't go tumbling toward the floor just the same.
She might've laughed if she wasn't in such agony. REALLY, Why did the visions have to be PAINFUL? Surely the PTB had this stuff sorted by now. She clasped the edge of the bed tightly and tried to bite back the screaming as much as she could as the vision hit her. A myriad of images flooded her mind, most of which was familiar, but some of which wasn't. She tried to tell him as much as she could as she saw it: "Portal.... Girl. Demons... Fangs. Here. Soon." And then the vision abruptly stopped. She blinked and looked up at him. "Sharp things. We need... sharp things."
He nodded and listened to her as she started to list the things that she was seeing. "Sharp things...I can do sharp things," he said to her. Gunn could definitely do sharp stuff.
"Good," she breathed. "I've got some swords over... There." She waved vaguely to the closet as she got to her feet. "God, you'd think they'd tone down the agony!" She fumed. "Okay. Important things are happening. I'll set aside my rage for later. For now, though... This one's important, Charles." Well, the girl in her vision would HAVE to be, for Maddie to call Gunn by his first name. "We can't let her die."
No one really used his first name, so it definitely caught his attention when she did. "I wasn't planning on it," he said, picking up a sword from her stuff. "You good to go?" He didn't want her to go out if she was only half conscious because of the pain flaring through her brain.
She shook out the dizzies and grabbed her own sword. It looked heavier than SHE was, but she hefted it with ease (hey, what was a demon side without a few perks, huh?). "I'll be fine. I'll probably wanna pass out when we get home," she added apologetically. "We can try for morning sex? We've nev--hardly done that before," she added as she led the way out the front door.
Demon sides did tend to do that, come in handy that is. "Morning sex sounds good," he said to her with a smile. He figured that, after whatever they were going to do tonight, they would both need a lot of rest before trying to do anything that was more fun than any sort of work.
She stopped only briefly to slip a shirt on over her head (since people tended to notice public nudity over otherworldly things, believe it or not!) and then led the way out the front door. THANKFULLY, they only had to travel a few blocks, which they took by foot since... they still had alcohol in their systems (drunk driving = bad).
Maddie started to slow down when things started to look familiar... SMELL familiar, and held out a hand behind her for Gunn to slow down as well. And then, inexplicably (well, inexplicably to most, Maddie could talk about it for HOURS) a portal opened in the middle of a quiet road and out emerged a woman in rags. She looked dazed at first as she took everything in, her bare feet padding against the cold concrete, and then it looked as though she remembered something and started to quicken her pace.
What came behind her were several demons, Pylean's, with the traditional mob-like pitchforks and flaming torches, but what was more worrisome? Was the pack of vampires coming from the opposite direction. Ooooh dear. Talk about wrong time, wrong place, huh? "I need to get her out, she's" useless was the first word that came to mind, but instead, she said: "helpless. Distract them... ALL of them if you can, and for the love of GOD, don't die. I'll fall out of love with you if you do." Did... did she just say that she loved him? Huh.
He probably wouldn't have wanted to drive, anyway. Like she had mentioned, they both had a little too much alcohol in their systems for that to be a good idea. Plus, a black man traveling around with giant sharp weapons in the middle of the night in LA? That was just asking for attention from cops. That would just cause more problems for them.
He nearly fainted when he saw the portal open up and spit out first the girl then...well, the rest. He couldn't help but notice that the demons looked a little like the owner of one of the bars in the area...some demon bar that you could sing at. He'd only been to it a couple of times. Still, the resemblance was uncanny.
Not something he had time to worry about right now, though. "Alright, I'll get to work on the vampires, you deal with bag lady," he said, swinging his sword at one of them, lopping its head clean off and turning it to ash. "Wouldn't want you falling out of love with me," he said to her with a smirk before going after the next vampire.
She rolled her eyes at him, even BEFORE he lobbed the vampire's head clean off. She felt certain that this girl, whoever she was, would have died no matter WHO was after her in this situation. Luckily... the PTB was paying enough attention to give people able to help a head's up (Maddie WAS mildly disconcerted that the PTB might have watched things leading UP to her vision, but the less said there the better, hm?).
She was quick to rush to the woman's side... they were roughly the same age, and if Maddie had given her a CLOSER look? She might have recognized her. As it was, however, she was quick to put "bag lady" behind her in a protective stance, basically shielding her from the Pylean's while Gunn fought off the vampires on the other side.
There were roughly a dozen of them and after their initial anger subsided, they started to look confusedly around at their surroundings, much as the woman did. Maybe Maddie should use this to her advantage, hm? She started talking to them, in what little Pylean she had picked up from Lorne: "Leave now. You're a LONG way from home and this is our," she hated to say it, but: "cow now."
Gunn didn't catch at all what she said to the green dudes. He was keeping his focus on the vampires that had yet to seem to catch the drift that they weren't wanted here, and none of them were just going to lay down and let them eat them up. It took him slicing through another two vampires before the remaining one finally took off. While he knew that he should go after it, he didn't want to leave Maddie and this girl by themselves. The girl in the sack didn't look like she would be able to take care of herself too much and would weigh Maddie down.
He froze as the green guys seemed to understand whatever it was that she said and start to back away toward the still open portal. They were looking around and realizing that maybe they were a little too far away from their own Kansas to be too comfortable.
Maddie continued her little tirade in Pylean, using words that sounded like ENTIRELY different things in english (which made "bag lady" who will forever be known as "Fred" try to stifle a giggle behind her hand and fail miserably), but the Pylean's were quick to back off into their world JUST before the portal closed. Who knew that Maddie's mouth would one day END a conflict?
Seriously.
Fred seemed to quiet down once the Pylean's left and her big doe-like eyes looked around uncertainly, her glasses perched askew on her nose. "Where... what... Am I dead? I have to be dead. There's no other explanation as to why that would be so easy and," she felt along her neckline, "okay, so my neck's still attached, but they've used other method's before. Maybe I was hanged and I'm dead and this is a hell that I vaguely remember once..." She rattled off in her Texan twang, pacing around uncertainly.
Maddie just gave Gunn a look, then. A look that said 'What... the fuck?'
Gunn breathed out a sigh of relief when the green guys backed back into their portal. He had no idea what Maddie had said to them but, according to the other girl, it seemed fairly funny. He wouldn't be too shocked to learn that Maddie had insulted their mothers or something. If he had known what women looked like in Pylea, he would have found that even more funny.
He looked from the girl back to Maddie when she began talking, returning Maddie's 'what the fuck' look with one of his own. "OK, you're not dead," he said to her. "Because we're not dead and I doubt those guys would have put that much effort into chasing a ghost." Well, he had a point.
Fred blinked up at Gunn, before smiling and trying to stifle yet another laugh. Logic? She needed right now. "Oh. Well, I guess that makes sense. It can't be easy catchin' somethin' that isn't corporeal. ... Or can it?" She blinked thoughtfully.
Maddie just arched an eyebrow at Gunn, thinking THAT could have ended worse than it did. "How about... we take you home for now and figure out what to do in the morning?" She tried to sound sweet, even reassuring... but she was SO tired, and still mildly pissed off that she didn't get any...
Fred blinked at Maddie again, then looked from Maddie to Gunn before nodding obediently.
Gunn sighed. And tonight had started out so promising. Sure, he felt great saving this girl from whatever it was that had been chasing her, but him and Maddie...well, you know. Still, now they had to take care of this girl. "I think we could all use some sleep," he said, then looked at Fred. "And she could use some real clothes.
"And some food..." Maddie commented, not knowing that Fred could HOVER food and not retain any weight. The bitch. "Come on, honey. We'll take care of you." She actually offered a hand to Fred, which... Wow. Who knew that Maddie had a sweet side, hmm? "I think I've got some chicken in the fridge."
Fred actually brightened at that, and let out a LOUD imitation of a chicken. Yes, she was just a LITTLE unhinged, but... being a slave in an alternate dimension will do that to anyone. "Are--are you sure I'm not dead?"
Gunn actually chuckled when she clucked like a chicken. "Well, think of it this way...if you're dead, then this is obviously heaven. Why question it?" he asked. "You're not dead, but, compared to what I can only GUESS you went through, this is better, right?"
Fred actually stared at Gunn for a moment before breaking into an infectious smile. "Alright. ... I'm still waitin' for the other shoe to drop, though," she admitted, actually waggling a finger at him there. "You're not allowed to let it."
After a moment... She took Maddie's hand.
