Surprise! Who: Mai, Selinda and Liz, then Mai and Liz Where: Liz's Place When: Saturday, October 9 - Late Afternoon
The return flight had to have been even longer and more tedious then the flight out in Mai's opinion, but at least she managed a bit of sleep, and Selinda it seemed was able to enjoy more then a couple hours sleeping in the seat beside her. Once the plane landed and they had collected their bags and a taxi had been waved down after the left the terminals, Mai, keeping their end destination secret from Selinda, gave the driver directions to Liz's place.
"You doing okay?" She asked looking over to her new Slayer once the cab pulled away from the airport.
"I'm doing FABULOUS, actually!" The pale little thing chirped happily, all smiles. "I'm feeling quite happy, and alllll the little twinkling lights around people are shining brighter than ever!" ...what the HELL was this girl talking about? Seriously???
"I'm glad, Sweetie." Mai smiled pleasantly to the girl as the taxi drove the streets of L.A. "Though I'm sure after such a lengthy flight you'll be happy to get settled into someplace and just relax." Though Mai was sure any relaxing would come after the reunion of the Todd sisters.
"Am I going to see Elizabeth soon?" Selinda asked with more than a hint of eagerness. "Bringing me back here, I suspect my sister will simply love you forever!" Oh, Selinda... if you even knew how much that was what Mai was hoping for... "You've got even more of the sparkly lights than most people I've met recently... I wonder what that meeeeeans..."
"You don't want to wait until you've gotten settled back here in L.A.?" Mai questioned curiously. Not that any reply that would come from the Slayer would change Mai's plans in any way, she just didn't want to let on that Selinda would be seeing her sister sooner than she was thinking.
"I suppose I could... as my watcher, I trust that you have my best interests at heart." She paused, before asking in all seriousness, "I wonder why they say that? You would technically have my interests in your MIND, not your HEART..."
"I only have your best interests in mind, Selinda." Mai countered as the taxi pulled off the main thorough fare and onto one of the side streets. "I hope you realize that and will be able to put your trust in me."
"I wouldn't have come with you if I didn't trust you, ma'am..." Selinda said sweetly, before adding with a matter-of-factly tone, "Besides, the whispers in my head all told me to listen to you, that you wouldn't steer me in the wrong direction..."
"I'm not as formal as some of my colleagues, Selinda. So there'll be no more ma'am from you. You can call me Mai." The Asian looking Watcher smiled softly to her charge. "And I hope to never steer you wrong." After about another fifteen minutes riding in the backseat of the cab, the taxi finally pulled up alongside the curb of its destination. The residence of Elizabeth Todd.
The girl gasped excitedly when she'd realized where they pulled up to. She was home! "Oh, thank you, Mai!" She said happily, giving the impression that, were she standing? She'd likely be twirling right now. "Do you know Elizabeth? If not, please let me introduce you!"
"Why don't you go and surprise your sister, I'll see to your bags, Selinda." Mai smiled softly to the girl as it warmed her to see the Slayer display such enthusiasm at being returned home where she belonged.
"Alright... but you've got to come and speak with her as well!" Selinda said happily before literally PRANCING up the sidewalk to ring the doorbell.
Liz had just gotten back from work maybe an hour or two ago, so, as tired as she was, she looked a hot mess. But when she opened the door, her eyes immediately went wide. She immediately saw Mai getting the bags out of the car, and just... well... she had a MILLION questions, but right now? She wanted to hug her sister. Which is exactly what she did. "Oh god... Selinda! What... what are you doing home?"
"My new watcher came and picked me up... said SHE could train me EVERY bit as good right here at home!" The little blond proclaimed with a big, happy grin.
Watching the reunion taking place on the porch, Mai knew she had made the right choice in bringing Selinda back to L.A. The girl might be a handful to try and train, but L.A. was where she belonged. With her sister. She would give the two another moment or two before she'd collect Selinda's bags and take them up to the house.
"Your new..." Liz looked back to Mai for a moment, eyebrows raising, wondering if this was some strange coincidence, that she had dated and broken up with a watcher... and now was growing close to ANOTHER one. She couldn't be angry at Mai for not telling her... how could SHE know how much Liz knew now about this stuff? Still...
"Sweetie.. go on in and get yourself something to eat. I need to talk to Mai for a few minutes."
When Selinda happily pranced on into the house, Liz walked over to the woman, and crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm both... insanely grateful to you right now, and slightly annoyed that I didn't know about your.. profession earlier. Lucky for you... the grateful side is ENTIRELY winning out. Thank you so much... you did this just for me, didn't you?"
Mai set the bags down at Liz's approach. "She spilled, didn't she." Mai commented with a glance past Liz to the disappearing form of Selinda into the house. She had hoped to explain things to Liz before Selinda might have mentioned anything. No chance for that now. "I did it for both of you, but yes, mostly for you."
"Well, she said her 'new watcher' came and picked her up, and pointed to you. I don't think she realizes we know one another." Liz said with a laugh, shaking her head. "I've never known anyone quite like you, Mai... what made you do this for me?"
"I kind of left that part out when I picked her up in London. Wouldn't have wanted to spoil the surprise by letting on I knew you." Mai told her with a soft smile. Her hand then raised to lightly graze the other woman's cheek. "I think we better go inside and have ourselves a little chat, love." Whether Liz would be wanting to believe it or not what Mai did was done mostly out of her love for the blond doctor.
