Too Much Is Not Enough
Who: Buffy, Ash, and Later Lucy
Where: The Hyperion
When: Oct. 4th, Afternoon
Buffy gave the punching bag one more hard kick before stepping back and giving it a rest for the day. She was worn out to hell. She had been patrolling and training constantly ever since the whole 'life might end soon apocalypse' stuff started happening, in an effort to try and stem the tide. She hoped that she ran into the chick who claimed to be War soon so that she could put an end to this nonsense. She wanted the world to be relatively safe for once.
"That'll be enough for today." Ash said with a chuckle as he stepped between Buffy and the bag, not entirely sure if she was planning on stopping or not. "I know you want to settle the score with that... War... but you're not gonna be able to do it if you're completely worn out."
It seemed like for a moment that she would keep on going, but then she relaxed and sat in a chair that they had on the side of the room. "I know, I'm just trying to make sure that as few people as possible get hurt during the night." Thus her almost obsessive patrols every night.
"Right. But Buffy? What if you wear yourself out. Totally. And then she comes looking for you? And you're too tired to protect Kevin? Or Dawn? Or your mom?" Score one for the Watcher, kids.
She nodded, understanding what he meant. "I know," he agreed. She hadn't even been eating as much as she should lately. She had dropped five pounds in the last month and, on her tiny frame, she really couldn't spare them much. "I have to keep reminding myself of that."
"Especially since..." he grumbled, hating saying this, "I can't help you anymore."
"If you're still freaking out about the magic stuff, I still say give it time," she said, bending down to her gym bag and pulling out a Powerade and opening the bottle, taking a sip. "You never know if/when that stuff is going to come back."
Ash knew she didn't mean it how it sounded. So... casual. Other than Lucy herself... Ash wasn't sure if he NEEDED anything as badly as he needed his magic. But he bit his lip and said nothing about it. "Just remember: they need you. Kevin. Dawn. Your mom. They need you to keep level-headed here."
She had meant it to be reassuring. Oh well. "I'm doing my best. Hard to keep a level head when flaming rocks are falling from the sky and massive earthquakes are hitting LA." Sad but true.
"Again, a valid point. But still... we need to get you focused again. Get you ready. And if I can make a suggestion? Talk to your sister. From what I remember... she can be quite the voice of reason at times." He recommended, knowing that his clinical mentality wasn't always the most reasonable.
Buffy nodded. Talking to Dawn always did ground her a bit. Maybe that was what she needed. Even hanging out with Kevin would ground her a bit right now. She was going a bit batty.
"Ok... why don't you go get showered, Buffy? Then go home, EAT SOMETHING, and get some rest." He said, a little worried about her.
She nodded, finally standing back up. Just as she did, Lucy Van Warren bounced through the door. Lucy knew that, if she couldn't find Ash at home, then her next best bet was to head over to the Hyperion these days. Something big was going on, so she knew that Buffy would be doing extra training.
Ash visibly brightened the moment he saw Lucy, showing ocne again how seriously fated to be these two were. How could anyone hope to give him this same kind of reaction? "Lucy..." He breathed happily, opening his arms to the gorgeous little blonde. "I've missed you..."
She wrapped her arms back around him as well. "Well, I missed you, too, ya goof," she said to him. "That's why I came here. I went by your home first, but you weren't there, so I figured I'd try here."
He cupped her chin sweetly, looking into her eyes with a soft smile. "So. What have YOU been up to, or am I going to be sorry I asked?"
She shook her head. "Trying to keep life as mundane as possible, really," she admitted to him. "School, music, and some Sugar Shack imbibing and working." Normal made her feel good, and everyone needed some feel good right now.
"I still can't believe you and Chloe are able to cram as much into your schedules as you do. It's both impressive and completely INSANE all at once." He smirked, trying not to laugh at his next thought. "Perhaps you should be a watcher, as well."
She snorted at that. "Like MY goofy butt could be a Watcher," she said with a giggle. "Seriously, my girl would be dead in a week or be driven insane because I'd want her to keep the hours that I do. I don't even HAVE super powers and I can out-go most people."
"See, I was thinking more she'd be distracted by your hyperactivity. Oh well... I suppose I'm wrong." He teased, looking her over a few times. "Good god. Look at you. You must be driving the boys at school INSANE."
She looked down at the tight jeans and pink tank top that she was wearing. "Why?" she asked. "It's not like there's anything TOO special about this outfit." It had just seemed comfortable to her this morning.
"Maybe it's just because you're smoking hot enough to look ridiculously hot in ANYTHING?" He laughed, shaking his head. "And have you SEEN what your rear end looks like in those jeans? Seriously?"
She actually turned her head in an effort to try and see her butt in them. "Kind of hard when you can't do like an owl and turn your head completely around," she said. "Or if you're Linda Blair. Seriously, that chick is scary now, even all these years later."
"Then just take my word for it, you goober." He laughed, shaking his head. "Seriously, Luce. You're the sexiest girl in the world, ok?"
She smirked. "Of course I am," she said to him. She definitely knew that she looked great. That was no real question to her. "Wouldn't expect you to date any less."
"Well... I dunno about THAT, but... damn. Anyway... want to get out of here? Buffy's done for the day, and really, once she's done I try to get gone quickly." He smirked, shrugging. "I don't think the others still feel very comfortable around me."
She nodded. "I wouldn't worry too much what the others think, as long as Mr. Giles and Buffy are still wanting you to be around, after all." She had a point. "Let's get out of here, though. I'm ALL for it."
