The sad thing was... Kayla had an answer for that, and Deanna would never hear it. She gave Deanna a sad smile and let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding in when she walked away.
Kayla closed her eyes and let a few tears slide down her cheeks before wiping them away with her thumb, mildly glad that her mascara was water resistant. She stood there for a few minutes, trying to compose herself, before going back inside and rejoining the party.
