It's Really No Wonder That People Think He's Gay
Who: Bethany and Clark
Where: Sugar Shack
When: Monday, October 4th
If there was one thing that Clark learned from a young age, it was to appreciate the joy of caffeine, which explained why he was at the Sugar Shack (since they did the best coffee/sugar combination in his opinion), dressed in straight-leg dark blue jeans and a light blue dress shirt tucked in at the waist, with a navy blue tie and a light grey jacket. He ordered a drink from Mouse and chatted with her sweetly.
Accepting his drink, he turned and looked around, before spotting a familiar face. He grinned and before you could say 'Bazinga', was sitting down beside her. "I can spot a Regan High student from a mile away," he giggled.
Bethany looked at Clark with big, blinking eyes, as if he had three heads. She looked cutely startled, and, in her simple outfit of bright blue jeans and pink, long-sleeved Old Navy shirt, the redhead looked far more unassuming than a slayer probably should. "Uh... Y-yeah. I'm Bethany. Annnnnd... You are?" Hey. Shut up. She really didn't pay attention to how many kids were at school.
"Clark," the boy replied with a wide grin, offering his hand to her demurely. Yep. He had NO idea how to introduce himself to people, let alone women. This was just… something that he’d witnessed and assumed EVERYBODY did.
"Um... not sayin' I mind or anything? But why exactly did you sit HERE, of all the tables in the place?" She looked at him, at his demeanor... and ok, while YES, cute... her other initial reaction? 'This one's gotta be TOTALLY gay'.
Oh, the little she knew, hm? He giggled and crossed one leg over the other, placing his hands on his knees. "WELL. You're cute. Obviously. And you looked lonely."
She blushed furiously there, as people so rarely NOTICED her, no less complimented her like that, so boldly. "Thank you..." she said quietly. "I feel kinda bad for not knowing you... but really? Other than my cousin Brandie, I kind of... don't talk to anyone or even notice them. At school, I mean. Not in life. I'm not like.. some scary hermit-girl or something."
"Oh, I wouldn't think you were a hermit, sweetie." Sweetie? Really? No wonder people thought he was gay. "You just need to get out more. *I* can help there."
"....huh?" Yeah. That was Bethany's uber-intelligent response. So she was caught off-guard. It almost sounded like this guy was asking her out or something. But no WAY did he like girls. NO WAY. "You mean like... hanging out or something?"
"Sure, for a start. If you're not opposed to it, of course. I'm told that I can be a little," he sighed, looking for the word he wanted to use, and then did jazz hands, "theatrical."
She giggled then, covering her mouth with her hand and giving an adorable little sigh. "Um... PLEASE don't get mad at me for asking this, I swear I'm not judging at all... but.. are youuuu..." she bit her lips, trying to figure out how to word it. "You know..."
"A queen?" Clark asked with a smirk. He got it a lot, so much so that it didn't even bother him. "I wish. It would certainly make life easier." He gave a dramatic sigh. "But no. I'm ... *complicated*."
"Oh." Oh my, did she SMILE when he said that? Hey. She couldn't help it, alright? While quite... effeminate, she found him to be WICKED cute. And she kinda found his personality, while obnoxious to most, to be ADORABLE. "So, um... what did you have in mind to do? When we hang out, I mean."
"Anything to make you smile more," He replied cheerfully. Well well, it looks like he had a bit of charm in him after all, hmm? "Because that's just adorable."
Oh, she was just BEAMING now. The attention he was lavishing on her made her feel like some kind of model, or movie star. "You know, if... um... if you WANT, we could go to the movies.. or maybe to dinner... or... or something..." She said, trying to think of things that people would do on a DATE, to see what he would say.
"Oooor we could go for the trifecta: shopping, dinner and a movie. Unless you don't like shopping. That's a deal breaker, though," he giggled, clearly joking at the last part. Although hey, a straight guy who liked shopping? *That* was a rarity. Although it did explain his killer fashion sense (if he did say so himself - which he did. Frequently). He rolled his eyes, "Sorry. Overbearing, I know. Ultimately, it's ladies choice. I wouldn't make you do anything that makes you uncomfortable, or exhausts you." Realizing the phrasing, he blushed and added: "You know what I mean."
"Are you kidding? I love to shop!" She squealed, wondering if she hit the jackpot here: a straight guy with all the perks of a gay-best-friend? HELL yes! "Maybe you could help me shop for a Halloween costume? I'm prolly gonna have to go to the Halloween dance stag, but I *never* miss a chance to dress up for Halloween."
"That sounds perfect," he giggled, before taking a sip of his drink. Ah, just what a growing boy needs (well, not really growing, since he'd been 5'7" for the last year, but you know what I mean!) - sugar and caffeine. "What did you dress up as last year?"
"A wolf." She stated, which was kind of heartbreaking, as... she did it because she was the only full-blooded member of the Bale family who DIDN'T have the wolf gene in her.
He squinted, trying to picture it. Unfortunately, he didn't know about... well, about the supernatural, period, so there was no way that he was going to make any connections with that. "Well, *this* year we're going to try for something a little... less hairy."
"Well... I'll make you a deal." Oh my dear sweet god... Bethany was getting a bit of gumption here! "Take me TO the dance, and I'll wear something JUST for you."
Luckily, he hadn't been sipping at his drink then, otherwise it would be ALL OVER him now. That was ... surprisingly frank. "I *could* do that. I'd have to warn my BFF that's she'd be going alone, though. And she hits hard." He pouted. No, she *wasn't* a Slayer. She just hit hard by Clark's standards.
"So... just to clarify..." Beth said with a flirty little grin, "Is this a date we're planning?" Well now. Seems Beth had some of that Bale charm in her after all!
Awr, he kind of melted a little when she grinned. How cute! "I believe it is, dear Bethany," he replied with a grin to match hers.
"You are like... the CUTEST boy I have ever met." She giggled, meaning it as much meaning adorable as she did handsome. "I can't wait to tell my cousin about this. Do you know Brandie Bale? She goes to our school too..."
"I've never spoken to her," he admitted. That wasn't saying much, really. It *was* a big school. "But if she's half as sweet as you are, I'm sure she's lovely."
"She's the best. I think her semi-boyfriend is taking her, so we can maybe meet up there. And obviously, your friend, if she goes, and ohmygod I'm rambling and thinking WAY too far ahead and making myself seem like the most desperate chick EVER." She grumbled, almost facepalming at the table.
He laughed and took one of her hands, "It's okay to be excited. GOD knows I'm going to be a complete SPAZ on the night. Speaking of which, you'll have to help ME pick an outfit now. Fair's fair."
"I'd love to!" She held back a squeal. "I'm a spaz on MOST nights. So... it's totally ok."
Oh god. What have we unleashed? He giggled. "Well then, we're a perfect match."
