Who Knew Getting Lucky Could Have More Then One Meaning
Who: Remmie and Donovan
Where: The Beach
When: Thursday, Late Afternoon - September 30
While it had been a week or two since Donovan last saw the... odd blonde girl on the beach, he'd had a hard time getting Remmie off of his mind. Sure, she was from France or.. or something... but she was still so cutely strange, so off-center, that combined with her beauty, he couldn't stop thinking about her.
So, with the weather finally getting back to.. 'normal'... he decided to take a walk along that same beach they'd met on, hoping that maybe lightning would strike twice, and he'd see her again, maybe be able to plan the 'date' they'd playfully talked about.
Remmie was sitting on the porch of the beach house she was living in with Frank reading a book that she had been given by the tutor Frank had hired to get Remmie caught up to others her age that attended high school. Every so often the mergirl would glance up to look at the beach and the ocean that stretched out before it. And it was with one of those glances that Remmie caught sight of a familiar figure walking the stretch of beach just off to the left of the beach house. Setting her book aside the blonde rose to her feet and moved to the railing to watch the boy with a slight smile. While it had been weeks since she saw him, Remmie was unsure if Donovan would be as happy to see her as she was to see him walking the beach at that moment. For some reason she couldn't quite grasp the sight of the boy made her heart go all a flutter.
When he spotted her on that porch, a smile instantly came to his lips. She was hardly the kind of girl he usually went for (Come on, he was a football star. He tended to usually like the bubbly, curvy, sorta-easy cheerleader type), but something about this girl just embedded herself in his mind and wouldn't let go. He waved up to her, beginning to walk up towards the house.
That wave was all it took to have Remmie scurrying down the stairs from the porch toward the boy, Remmie stopping a couple feet from Donovan with a big ole smile on her face that had those blue eyes of hers shimmering. "Hello Donovan."
"Haven't seen you around, so... figured I'd come here and see if I saw you. Just been thinking about you, I guess..." He was trying not to feel as stupidly nervous as he did, as considering his experience with girls, this shouldn't be a big thing to him! "I guess I was afraid maybe you went back to France or something. How've you been?"
"I went away for a little while. I didn't like all that fire that came down from the sky. I have been good. When I came back Frank let me stay with him again." Remmie rambled on a bit. "How have you been?"
That strange, almost casually robotic way she spoke somehow made her MORE interesting to him, like she were some puzzle he had to figure out. "Well, yeah. That... that kinda sucked." Ok, so not the most eloquent statement. He was a jock! What do you WANT, man??? "Just glad you're ok."
"Sucked." She repeated with a slight nod. "I am glad you are okay and did not get hurt." She said smiling up to the boy.
"Nah. I'm tough. Gonna take more than flaming rocks from the sky to take ME out..." Sure, Donovan. Because you were hiding under the kitchen table screaming like a little girl, tough guy.
"I'm glad you are okay and were not scared." The petite blond told him. "I would have been sad if something bad happened to you." The smile she wore faded slightly as she thought briefly of that.
"Yeah, well... the feeling's kinda mutual. S'why I'm here, really." He shrugged, looking away. "I guess maybe I was worried something had happened to you."
Remmie wasn't about to let that happen. To allow Donovan to be looking somewhere other then at her. When he looked away the blond moved til she was in his line of sight once more. "You don't have to worry," she smiled, "I am alright."
Now THAT made him smile. She seemed to really... be drawn to him, which brightened him considerably. Enough to blurt out his next words. "I, um... I dunno what they do in France, but here? At the end of October, for Halloween, my high-school is having a dance. I was wondering if you'd wanna go with me."
Remmie smiled brightly at that. Not so much at being asked to go with him to a dance, but that she actually understood what Halloween was. It was a time to get dressed up in costumes. At least that was what the tv was advertising for the holiday between breaks in the show that she had been watching. "You're going to dress up in a costume?"
"Yeah... I have no idea what KIND of costume yet, but I'm planning on it..." He laughed, raising a brow as he waited for her to actually answer... although he at least THOUGHT she was going to say 'yes'...
"There is still time to look for one, yes?" In Remmie's mind it was already a given that she'd go with Donovan to the dance. They were talking about costumes after all, weren't they.
"Plenty of time, actually. So... we'll BOTH be looking for costumes then?" His little way of asking if she was accepting his invitation, obviously. "Because damn. I am gonna be going with one gorgeous girl if so."
"We will be looking together?" Well if that didn't brighten her mood even further. First Donovan took her to "grab" a hot dog. Which she didn't actually get, but the blond certainly did enjoy the french fries smothered in ketchup. Now he was actually going to take her to look for a costume for this dance he mentioned. "When will we go?"
"This week sometime? The stores are just starting to sell the good costumes, and they should still have everything in stock. If we wait too long all the good stuff will be gone." He tried not to seem too excited. Really. He was just failing miserably.
"Tomorrow?" Remmie asked with a hopeful expression. The girl didn't know the meaning of rushing things. All Remmie knew was that costumes were needed for both of them, and she definitely didn't want to wait too long, however long that might be, for all the good stuff to be gone.
He almost laughed, told her to slow it down... but when he saw the eager, adorable look on her face... Jesus, how could he? "...You know? That sounds great. Tomorrow evening I'll come by and pick you up." Plus he'd get to show off his car. Which, hey. Chicks LOVED the car.
"Tomorrow." She repeated with a smile that seemed to be just for him. "And we can grab a hot dog?" Which in Remmie speak translated to Donovan getting a hot dog and her satisfying herself with ketchup drenched french fries.
"Sure. Maybe if you're lucky? We'll get some even better food. There's a place near the school that has the best coffee, shakes, and burgers around." Come on. Picture this girl loose in the Sugar Shack. And try not to cackle.
"Maybe I will get lucky tomorrow, yes?" Remmie smiled bright not realizing just how her words could be taken.
Oh god. Donovan actually choked for a second there. "Yeah, hopefully. But maybe you shouldn't say it QUITE like that. There's a thing we have here, called slang. And the way you said that? Made it sound like slang that people would understand in a way you don't want them too."
"How should I have said it?" She asked. Remmie wasn't offended or anything, but was looking at this as a learning experience. That could be nothing but a good thing, right?
"Just... something like 'maybe I'll get lucky FINDING A COSTUME tomorrow'. Something like that. Because generally 'Getting Lucky' is something people say to mean they're gonna have sex." He said, just kind of... blurting it right out.
"I want to get lucky finding a costume, not have sex tomorrow." Remmie giggled cutely.
"Well then. We'll help you get lucky how YOU want to get lucky." He laughed, knowing damn well the kind of 'getting lucky' HE'D likely be dreaming about tonight...
"You're nice. I like you Donovan." Remmie smiled. Donovan wasn't the only one who randomly just let words fall out.
"Well, Remmie... I happen to like you too." He never realized French girls were this adorable! Guess you learned new things every day, huh?
"I will see you tomorrow." The girl smiled happily before she moved to hug the boy without any thought. "Bye!" Remmie retreated from Donovan almost giddily back toward the beach house. To the mergirl tomorrow couldn't arrive quickly enough to suit her.
