Meeting New Bandmates
Who: Skylar and Stephanie
Where: Avarice
When: Sept. 27th, Evening
Skylar sat at a table in Avarice, dangling her legs off of a stool as she waited for Stephanie to show up. Since she had given birth to Brayden, she was throwing herself back into the band full force (along with being a full force Mom and wife), and that GOD she was a Slayer or else she'd be exhausted. She was actually doing alright, though. Right now she was waiting to actually do a bit of a sit down with the band's new rhythm guitarist, though
So maybe Steph was feeling a little more rock-star tonight. Or perhaps she was hoping to make Lexi's jaw drop later that night. Either way, the dhampir, who usually dressed in cute, perky, typicaly-teen clothes, was decked out in rocker-chic tonight: black miniskirt with matching leather boots and stockings, and a long-sleeved, hooded, sparkly silver blouse that clung JUST right to every curve. Her hair was straightened, and she had on just enough makeup to make her look gorgeous, and SLIGHTLY older than her 17 years. When she saw Skylar, she couldn't help but give a goofy wave, prancing over to her new bandmate(!) excitedly.
Skylar gave her a wave back, actually. She had to admit, the girl was adorable, and she had seen her play with The Lazarus Project a couple of times, so she knew that she was good. She just hoped and prayed that she'd gel well with the band.
"Skylar... hi.." Steph said, shuffling her feet nervously as she tried (and failed spectacularly) to act as cool as she looked. "I... um... I guess we should talk, huh? Get to know each other..."
Skylar chuckled. "That's what I was hoping for, actually," she said playfully to her. "Come have a seat by me and let's hang out for a bit."
Funny how Steph looked like someone who'd be a freakin' ROCK GOD by now, but instead was a nervous kid with a lot of raw talent, a HELL of a lot of potential, and enough energy to rival a Van Warren girl. She sat down beside Skylar, looking around nervously. "I... erm... I guess I should thank you, first. Meredith said you all agreed to give me a chance here. And I owe you all a LOT for this."
Skylar just smiled. "You're a great talent. Why *wouldn't* we want to snag you up after you...became free again." Honestly, Skylar would LOVE to get Lexi in on a band, but she didn't want to hurt the girl's sobriety. A side project wouldn't be a bad idea though...but that's for another day. Anyways, Stephie was a great talent that just needed a little molding. Snapping her up while free was the only smart idea out there. "No need to thank me."
"I didn't REALLY want to leave Lazarus and ruin the band... but... I messed up and I know Ginny doesn't hate me or anything, but it killed me having to look at her all the time and know I hurt her." Steph tried explaining, nibbling her bottom lip cutely.
Skylar nodded. "Trust me when I say that I understand." It actually was a situation that she would understand a little better than most, after all. "Let me just say that you can't control who you fall in love with, honestly. Still, you got to go for what makes you happy." She smiled. "Proselytizing aside, I'm very glad to have you with us."
"Thank you. It's... an honor for me. Not only to play with you girls... but to be in a band Lexi helped form." Oh my... even when TALKING about Lexi, Stephanie got all antsy and giggly, and it was obvious that if she could actually form a real blush? She'd have one right then.
And Skylar could tell, actually. "I'm hoping one day that Lexi will be able to share with the world her own gift again." She shrugged. "It's an honor for us to have you as well, though."
"Well... I know being the rhythm player in Broken Sunrise isn't really... showcasing what she can do..." Oh how cute! Look how protective she gets of the other girl! "But I know eventually when she feels comfortable with the attention, Jack and Pat will let her REALLY show what she can do."
"No, it's not, but I'm sure that they want to make sure that she'll do well first before they really let her do what I know she can do." She HAD written all of the early songs, after all. She could definitely go nuts if she wanted.
"And you girls really want me to be... you know..." How did she word this without sounding like an idiot? "A permanent part of the band? Like... this isn't some interim thing?"
Skylar shook her head. "I wouldn't want to go through all the work of getting you into the band and teaching you the songs for you to not be a part of the band in six months or a year." She had a point.
"I know this might sound like a stupid question cos I know Rachelle and Chloe bother have their own stuff THEY wrote too and have side bands and all that other jazz...." Hooooboy. Skylar was about to hear her very first Steph!Ramble. "But I was wondering if it would be in bad taste to ask if maybe, sometime, we could play something I wrote because I was PLANNING on just doing my own thing and I kinda wrote a BUNCH of songs and I really don't have a bad singing voice at all and I mean I know YOU'RE the singer, but lots of bands have let another member sing a song or two now and then right?"
Skylar giggled. "I certainly wouldn't mind," she said to Steph. Skylar might be the only one without much of a side project, after all. Even Mere had a side project now with Ginny, after all.
"Oh thank god." She blurted out, taking a deep breath and laughing. "OH! Are we playing a Halloween show? Like you did last year?" Oh dear. Did someone already have ideas about that?
Skylar nodded. "We'll definitely be doing something, although we haven't had the chance to set it up yet." Of course, her and Ben were going to be celebrating the one year of him proposing to her, after all. Last Halloween was awesome, by the way.
"I had this cool idea for a costume that I'll TOTALLY use onstage if we do that." She grinned, bouncing a little in her seat.
"Cool," Skylar said. "Not sure if I can top last year's costume, though." She HAD gone all out on it, after all. It may have been simple, but she had gotten her message across to her now husband.
"I kinda wanted to do a sexy take on the old Misfits stage apparel. The old devilock haircut, the Crimson Ghost face paint, lots of spikes... but with something sexy like a miniskirt and tanktop." Yeeeaaaah, I'd say she had this planned already.
Skylar nodded. "That actually sounds pretty damn awesome." And creative to boot. Skylar actually felt even more confident about having Steph on board for some reason. Go figure.
"They're my all-time favorite band. I have all their albums, the bootlegs, the tee-shirts, the posters... yeah, I'm kinda a nerd for them." She laughed and looked at the floor again. "Who are your favorite bands?"
"You mean other than us?" Skylar asked playfully. "Iron Maiden and Van Halen, actually, although I'm more of a fan of the DLR days than the SH days, much to my husband's constant dismay."
"I *love* Maiden!" Steph grinned, before biting her lip again. "Not so much Van Halen though. Other than the 'Fits, my faves tend to be Green Day, AC/DC, and Marilyn Manson."
"Not everyone's perfect," Skylar said with a snarky grin. "All of them are great as well, although Manson is almost distracting from his music by...well, being him. Music's still good, though. Just hard to picture him in my head, sometimes." Because, well, ick.
"I know I'm kinda boring... sorry if you could be doing something else." She really still felt like a kid around these girls even if most of them were only three years or so older than her.
Skylar shook her head. "Don't worry about it. I'm more than happy to get to know my new rhythm guitarist, after all."
"I think I like Green Day and the Fits because its such... up-tempo, fun stuff. It gives me stuff to bounce around to." She grinned and looked away again. "In case you didn't notice... I tend to run, jump, and hop around stage. A LOT."
Skylar nodded. "I've definitely noticed." She actually thought that the band could use some of that energy. Meredith OOZED sex appeal, but sometimes you want something a little sweeter, which is where, hopefully, Steph would come in and be adorable.
"You know... there's a freshman in my school named Brandie Bale... is she related to you?" Steph asked without a hint of sarcasm, just wondering if maybe she should befriend the girl.
Skylar nodded. She wasn't sure how much to tell the girl, even if she was a dhampir. "She's my daughter, actually." She could always correct and say that she adopted her after a moment, right?
"Oh. Really?" Steph blinked a few times, then tried to process it in her head. "Is... is this one of those things that's way more confusing than it sounds?"
Skylar chuckled. "Let's go with that," she said with a nod. Their lives were much more complicated than they originally sounded, after all. Such was the way of LA.
"Well... she always seems kinda... alone. Maybe I'll try to keep her company then. I don't really have many friends either." Steph said with a nod, as really, the couple friends she had graduated or left.
Skylar nodded. "I'm sure that she'd appreciate that," she said to Steph. God, even though she was only in her mid-twenties, she felt AGES older than Steph and couldn't really explain why.
Possibly, it was because Stephanie, while almost 18, had the playful spirit and energy of a child. Despite everything she'd seen and done in her short life, she kept that cheerful, bright demeanor. "She seems sweet. Although the boy she's been talking to is... kind of creepy."
"Julian? Oh he's harmless." Actually, he was anything but, because Skylar could feel the power rolling off of him, but that's not quite what she meant. He wouldn't hurt any of them on purpose. "He's sweet. You just got to get to know him."
"Huh. Well, maybe I'm not exactly the authority on judging boys, hm?" She laughed knowingly. "Hey, I can poke fun at myself as much as the next person..."
That actually made Skylar grin. At least the girl had a sense of humor. "Well, he adores Brandie, and seems to treat her like a princess, so he's already good in my book."
"Actually? Considering I'm dating a girl most people would yell at me over even if she WAS my age, I'm starting to think I don't much right to judge ANYONE." She giggled, cutely snorting a little. "Skylar? Seriously... thank you. Not just for letting me join the band... thank you for trying to get to know me. To make me feel like PART of the band, you know?"
Skylar nodded. "I wouldn't want to drive such a talent away, plus you're also a nice, sweet girl. Why wouldn't I want to get to know you?" She actually did think that Steph was utterly adorable.
"I guess I just get nervous. Like... ALL THE TIME." She admitted and laughed. "About every single possible thing."
"Well, being in a band with us is one thing that you shouldn't worry about," Skylar said to her, resisting the urge to stroke her hair. What? Jail bait or not, she was still utterly adorable and attractive, OK?
