Return Of The Mergirl Who: Remmie and Frank Where: Frank's Beach House When: Sunday Morning - September 19
Fire falling from the sky was probably the scariest thing Remmie had ever experienced. So startled and fearful of the flaming balls that shot down from the sky was Remmie that the teen took the only course she felt open to her. And that was to flee the beach house and escape into the ocean where she knew she'd be safe. That was almost ten days ago.
When the first rays of sunlight brightened the morning, Remmie found herself returning to the land above the ocean. Specifically a beach house she had been welcomed to live in during her first stay on dry land. It seemed the rain of fire was no longer a threat, but no sooner had Remmie entered the house and dressed in a set of clothes Frank had brought for her then the teen felt the house vibrate and shake beneath her feet. So startled by the unexpected movement Remmie let out a shriek of a scream finding herself momentarily without the mobility to move.
When Frank wasn't at work the last couple of days, he had been looking for Remmie. He had prayed that she had gone into the ocean again and not had just run off doing who knew what with some stranger. He had actually just gotten off of work and was pulling into his driveway when another earthquake hit. He jumped out of the car and ran into his house, seeing Remmie screaming. "It's just an earthquake, Remmie!" he called out to her. "It'll be alright!"
Remmie wanted comfort and reassuring when she saw Frank break into the house in a run, but the petite blond couldn't get her legs to move. All she could do was stare at him with wide blue eyes that were filled with pure fear with a single word shakily released by her lips. "Frank."
He slowly and staggeringly made his way over to her, reaching over and taking a hold of her. "It's going to be alright, Remmie, I promise," he said to her.
Remmie practically threw herself against the man once Frank had managed to reach her. Arms wrapping tight around his form as the teen braced herself against the doctor as the floor beneath her feet, and the walls around her, continued to shake and rock. "Frank. So scared." She breathed out heavily to frightened to do more then hold onto him with her cheek pressed to his chest.
He wrapped his arms around her and held onto her as the room around them continued to shake. Eventually, it slowed and stopped, at least for now. One as hard as that was might create aftershocks, though. "OK, it's stopped," he said to her. "That's an earthquake, Remmie. They happen occasionally here."
Drawing comfort from the way he held her, like a father might do to soothe and comfort a daughter, Remmie raised her eyes to look up at the man when everything stopped moving. "Earthquakes happen often?" She asked looking at him with questioning blue eyes. "Does fire fall from the sky occasionally too?" If earthquakes were a reoccurring thing then in the mergirl's mind falling fireballs might also be an occasional occurrence. What a strange place this land above the water was.
"Yes, in California, earthquakes happen on occasion," he said to her. "Fire balls falling from the sky...well, that IS odd." He wasn't sure what was going on with that, honestly.
"Does that scare you?" Remmie asked with a look that read she truly wanted to know. She had fled back to the ocean when the fire started falling from the sky, yet it seemed, Frank had remained in the city and appeared to be unharmed from the catastrophe that had befallen Los Angeles. Maybe she should have remained instead of running away like a scared little fish?
"A little, yes," he told her. Actually, it scared the daylight out of him, but she didn't need to hear that. "It's something that I don't understand why it is happening."
"But you would never leave Los Angeles because of it?" To the mergirl Frank was a pillar of strength and if he were going to stay and endure everything that was happening, Remmie was determined to draw strength from the man and remain.
He shook his head when she asked if he would ever leave LA because of it. "I've been outside of LA before. It may get a little scary at times, but there's nowhere else I'd rather live."
"Then I stay. If you allow." Remmie smiled brightly, though with a little bit of hesitation seeping into her smile. A small part of her wondered if maybe after her disappearance that Frank might not want her staying with him at the beach house.
"Of course I'd allow," he said to her, giving her a slight smile. He would never put her out of his home at this point.
