Bringing in Another Watcher
Who: Delilah and Christina
Where: The Airport, then Chloe's Sugar Shack
When: September 16, Evening
This was... ok, this SUCKED. Christina knew she was going to have a bit of a hard time adjusting to life in the States, as all of her family and friends were in Sydney or working in Great Britain... but the new Watcher's Council was going to be headquartered in Los Angeles, so... as she knew would make her family proud, the young blonde traveled there to dive headlong into her career, and hopefully inherit one of the plentiful slayers now running around the country. She looked, well... fairly comical, the petite thing standing in the main lobby of LAX, bogged down with about four huge suitcases that likely, together, weighted three times more than she did.
Giles was a bit busy tonight, so he had asked Delilah to go and pick up the latest arrival from England, one Christina Lowell. If she didn't mind it, she would start to feel like a cabbie in a taxi service. Still, she didn't really mind at all. As she pulled up and parked, she walked into the lobby and saw a woman that she assumed to be Christina trying to come down with all of her luggage. "Would you like some help?" she called out to the other woman.
"I'm... I'm supposed to be meeting a Mr. Giles?" She said in that adorably thick accent, blue eyes looking totally overwhelmed as she tried to balance the suitcases.
Delilah nodded. "I'm Delilah Zamora, I work with Mr. Giles," she said, almost offering a hand and then realizing that the woman letting go of her luggage would likely send it all toppling away from her. "He asked me to come and pick you up."
"Oh... alright..." She said with a stressed smile, pulling her luggage towards the exit, trying to keep up with the other woman. "Wow.. this is all awfully... overwhelming. Place is huge..."
Delilah grabbed one of the bags and carried it with her, in an effort to help out. "All of LA is kind of oversized," she told the other woman. "I think that's supposed to be the allure."
"Mm. Well... jury's still out there, I guess..." As they got to the exit, Christina looked at Delilah and gave a tired smile. "Is there anywhere nearby we could grab a coffee or tea, perhaps? Someplace we could talk... business?"
Delilah nodded. "I know of just the place, actually," she told her. "Would you prefer coffee or tea? I can make tea back at my shop, but I also know of a good coffee place that works a lot with us."
"I'm afraid tea might actually put me to sleep right now... perhaps coffee would be better..." She said with a defeated laugh.
Delilah nodded. "I catch your drift," she said. "Then I'll take you to get coffee." Once they reached her car, Delilah started to help her put the bags in the trunk.
Within ten minutes, they were pulling up outside of Chloe's Sugar Shack. As they walked in, Christina slipped her hands into the back pockets of her jeans, giggling to herself. "Is this place for real? It looks like something out of a 50's sitcom.."
"I think that may have been the point," Delilah joked. She started to walk toward the door. "The owner is...well, for one she's a kid, and two she's a bit of a sugar junkie nut."
"The owner is a kid? Really?" Ok, so that made Christina picture a little child running the place. "We can seriously talk... business here?"
"Well, she's like nineteen, but that's still a kid to me," Delilah said with a slight shrug. "And it's fine. Girl's a witch, although a pretty terrible one, as well. We used the basement for training Slayers before we got the hotel."
"Nineteen..." Christina said with a smirk, "Not TOO much younger than me.. I'm only 26, after all..." Still, a girl barely out of high school, owning her own successful business? Impressive. "So... you have a girl by now, I would assume?"
"God I'm getting old," Delilah joked, more to herself than to Christina. "Yes, I've been assigned a girl as well. She's...well, she's got a good heart," Delilah told her. "She's a bit...clumsy, though."
"A slayer? Clumsy? Well now. That cant end well..." Christina mumbled before she could think better of it. "I wonder how long it will take me to be assigned one... I'm really rather eager to get started."
"Apparently she didn't inherit the 'grace' gene," Delilah said with a slight chuckle. "Still, she's doing well, considering. If they have some, I'm sure you'll get a girl soon. We just discovered a few new ones, actually."
Those big blue eyes scanned the place, and widened as she looked up at the big menu. "Oh my lord... these things all look like they could keep me awake for a month."
[23:35] lena7623: Delilah snorted. "They probably will," she said with a nod. "If you want to go to sleep in the next couple of days, I suggest sticking with regular coffee."
Christina nodded emphatically and grinned as Mouse, in her shy, skittish way, rushed a medium coffee out to her, the cream and sugar sitting on the table. "Thank you..." Christina started to say to the redhead before... she skittered away shyly. "...how odd. Anyway... is this Mr. Giles easy to work for? Or is he more of a hard-ass? I'm hoping he's nice. Because otherwise I might get flustered and cry."
Delilah actually ordered the same, knowing that she wouldn't want her blood sugar to spike to hell and back from one of the concoctions that they served here. "I think that he's fine to work for," Delilah said. Of course, since she was just starting to see him and all. "He's a very nice man. Just try your best and you'll be fine."
"I think he originally wanted me to work in the new branch in Las Vegas... but my father sort of convinced him to let me work here. I'm hoping he doesn't think I'm a brat or something because of it..." Her nervousness was fairly adorable, really... she was like a kid on the first day of school.
She shook her head. "I doubt it," she told him. "I'm sure that you'll be fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much. We're still in plenty of need for Watchers here." Especially with what was going on now.
"Thank God..." The blonde said with a nervous laugh. "I just want to do a good job, and in the best place I could think of..."
Delilah nodded. "Christina, I think you'll do just fine here. You seem earnest and seem like you want to work hard. That's really all you need to do a good job here is a *want* to do the work."
"Thank you SO much. I'm really, really looking forward to finding out who I'll be assigned to." Ok, so she was sort-of Little Sally Sunshine. So what? Too many angsty, dramatic bitches around here ANYWAY.
