*sigh* Dumbasses
Who: Gabriel and Kayla
Where: The Hyperion
When: Sunday Afternoon, 9/19
Gabriel held the punching bag while Kayla attacked it during their training session. Even if her punches were occasionally nearly making him nearly lose his footing (he had managed to stay up so far, though), he couldn't help but realize that her punches were a lot less wild than they had been before he had finally gotten through to her after her fight with Isabella. He couldn't help but feel realized over that. Maybe now she would stay alive and not get herself killed doing something stupid. He certainly hoped so. He didn't want to fail another Slayer like he had done before, after all.
After one final punch, he held up his hand, sounding winded as he talked. "Why don't we take a break?" he suggested, smiling slightly at her as he tried to catch his breath.
Kayla stopped and gave him a puzzled look before realizing he didn't QUITE have her stamina. She blushed but since she had a nice sheen of sweat going, she figured that she could use a break as well. She was dressed in her usual gear: tracksuit pants, running shoes and a loose-fitting tee. "You tire easily in your old age," she teased lightly, her smile not quite reaching her eyes today. She'd been debating telling him about Chloe… whether she should or shouldn't. She knew that she should, but a large part of her suspected that she'd lose him if she did.
He rolled his eyes when she joked that he tired easily in his old age. "I'm not that old and you know it." He was only in his early to mid thirties, thank you. He could tell that something was on her mind. She wasn't experiencing the homicidal rage that she had before, but there was definitely something poking around in her thoughts. "Everything OK?" he asked.
She blinked then, idly wondering if she was that easy to read or if he was just THAT attuned to her now. "I'm okay," she assured him as she grabbed a towel to pat herself down. "I just… think that I should tell you something that I don't think you're gonna like."
He was actually getting that attuned to her. When he first met her, she had been impossible to read. "Even if I don't like what you'll tell me, I'll never hate you for it," he said to her. "You shouldn't keep stuff from me."
She clutched the towel to her chest and searched his eyes for a moment. "Are you saying that as my Watcher or my... person-that-I'm-seeing?"
He thought on that for a moment. "Both," he said to her. "I didn't realize we were...official, though." It wasn't that he didn't want it. God help him, he really did. He just...knew that she was going through a lot right now. He wanted her to decide that whatever was going on between them would be official, and when. "You hadn't said anything yet."
"Well, person-that-I-occasionally-bone just didn't sound right in my head," she admitted. "Or out loud. Sorry. I haven't been very good at definitions lately." She gave him a weak, nervous smile.
That actually made him chuckle. "Alright, you have a point, that doesn't sound great said out loud," he said to her. "So, tell me what's going on in your head."
She sighed and leaned back against the wall, "I know that we never said anything about ‘going steady’ or anything, but I did something that I’m not… overly proud of." Poor Chloe was literally covered in bruises. Although the sexy kind, not the violent kind. "I had sex with someone that wasn’t you. Obviously. And… I guess you have a right to know that."
He nodded when she said that. As guilty as she was acting, well, he had actually somewhat put that together himself. "I...I'm glad you told me," he said to her. "Kayla...we never said anything official, so I can't really hold it against you. If we *did,* though, I'd like us to be monogamous." He finally looked up at her. "And I'd really like for us to be official." Even possibly at the cost of his job, although, since one watcher had married his Slayer, he didn't think it would come to that.
"I know," she replied. Hey, she could be observant too, okay? "I guess that's part of the reason why I feel so guilty. As much as you want that, I don't think I can offer it right now." It didn't help that she still had the urge to maul Chloe, either.
He nodded when she said that. He had suspected that as well. "I see." He was silent for a full minute before talking again. "Then I can be your Watcher, and I can still be your friend, but I don't think we can date, if that's the case." He just couldn't abide by someone that he was officially dating going out with other people as well. Call him old fashioned. "If you change your mind, though, let me know."
She took that as well as taking a blow to the stomach, really. Although she tried, and failed, to hide it. "Okay, Gabriel. Whatever you want."
He sighed. "I...I'm sorry, Kayla," he said to her. He could see how she had taken that. Still, he thought that he was at least worth a commitment.
"I understand why, but... That doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt, or that I don't want you any less." She sighed and dragged a hand through her short blonde hair. "I just... Maybe I want more than I deserve."
"Kayla...nothing about what I said means that I don't want you any less." Far from it, actually. "And you certainly deserve me, or anyone else of your choosing." It was just...that's just how he WAS.
She slid down into a sitting position on the floor and nodded slowly. "If it's okay, I think I'd rather... Not train anymore today," she told him.
He nodded. "That's fine." He'd rather not train too much himself now as well. He'd rather go home and...sulk, honestly.
"Thank you," she murmured as she brought her knees to her chest and hugged her legs. Suddenly she didn't feel like doing much of anything. Maybe she'd cry later.
