To Something Long And Lasting Who: Mai and Liz Where: Avarice When: Wednesday Evening - September 8th
Mai had picked up Liz in her newly purchased yellow 1999 Mustang convertible. Their 'date' that had been scheduled for the previous Wednesday had, unfortunately, been cancelled due to work schedules and rescheduled for tonight.
Finding a spot near the entrance of the club Liz had given her directions to, Mai claimed the parking space and killed the engine. "Looks like the place is having a productive night." The dark haired Watcher commented to Liz before climbing out of the vehicle and running her hands over the short little black dress she wore that evening to smooth out the material.
"It usually is..." Liz replied with a little laugh, herself dressed in a silver miniskirt with clingy black tank-top. "I don't get to come here too often, especially recently, but it's almost ALWAYS busy. Good music, the drinks aren't expensive... kinda adds up to a no-brainer in terms of where to go, really..." The blonde doctor seemed to be relaxing a little just being here, being totally removed from her job and all elements related to it.
"Then you won't mind buying the first round of drinks." Mai teased walking around the front of the Mustang over to the doctor once Liz emerged from the vehicle.
"You know? I think I could be convinced to cover all of our drinks tonight." Liz said with a wry smile, as really... with her salary? She could certainly afford it. "So..." She said as the two made their way to the bar, "What would you like?"
Mai linked her arm through Liz's the way girlfriends sometime do when hanging out together as the pair headed for the entrance of the club.
"Now I wouldn't expect you to be doing that, Liz." Mai responded as they headed for the bar. "Just maybe the first three rounds." She added with a teasing grin. "And I think I'll start off with a Malibu and Coke."
"You heard the lady..." Liz sweetly said to CJ as they sidled up to the bar. Looking back to her friend, Liz sighed sweetly. "I have to admit... it feels good to be spending an evening in the company of a friend, rather than a bunch of sick people..."
"There's nothing wrong with feeling that way." Mai started as she stepped up to the bar beside Liz. "At the hospital you have to put patients before yourself, which is admirable, outside of that scenario you get to just be yourself. Which I'm thinking isn't something you allow yourself all that often."
"No... not recently at least." Liz admitted, sighing to herself. "I've been trying so hard not to let myself get all depressed... between missing my sister and missing Wesley... I guess I've been burying myself in my work."
"Well, we're just going to have to get you over this Wesley guy you seem to be down about." She could kind of understand Liz missing her sister, but this Wesley guy. Well if they were no longer together, which was a good thing for Mai, then she would just have to work on getting the doctor over the man and into a more healthy relationship.
"Yeah... thing is? It was mutual. The breakup." Liz explained, shrugging. "I don't think he ever really got over his ex, and because of that, we just weren't... clicking on all the levels we should have been. I'm not angry with him or anything... more like upset because I thought I'd finally found a good, healthy relationship."
"Well, think on the positive side of the break-up." Mai said just as the waitress brought them their drinks. "This now leaves you open to find that good, healthy relationship you're destined for." She smiled taking a small sip of her drink.
"You're SUCH a good friend, Mai, you know that?" The blonde said with a sugary-sweet smile. "it's nice, really. Haven't had one of those since I started college. I kinda forgot how nice it feels."
"The same could be said for you, Liz. Not many people would have welcomed a stranger to the city in the generous way you did when I wandered into the diner." Mai lifted her glass with a smile then to the other woman. "Here's to a new and long lasting friendship."
"I'll drink to that!" Liz agreed with a little giggle, tapping her glass against Mai's happily.
