Who: Frank and Remmie Where: Frank's Home When: Sunday Afternoon, Sept. 5th
Frank had just finished an eighteen hour shift at the hospital, and looked forward to having something to drink and then sleeping for the next twelve hours. Of course, he doubted that he would be able to do that, since he had a teenager running around his home now, and, if he remembered what it was like with his sisters, he doubted that he would be coming home to a quiet house. Of course, the fact that she probably wasn't human meant that anything could have happened to his home while he was gone. He just hoped that it wasn't on fire. If it wasn't burning down to the ground, then he felt that he could deal with just about anything else right now.
During Frank's absence from the beach house Remmie had taken a long swim in the ocean in the very wee hours of the morning. With the beach being deserted at such an early hour there was no chance that anyone would have seen the blond run into the incoming waves or spot the mermaid that appeared a brief moment later. Remmie could only go so long before she needed to return to the ocean for at least a couple hours to keep herself from becoming ill.
By the time Frank returned home from his long shift at the hospital Remmie had planted herself on the sofa in front of the television with a bowl of Cocoa Puffs. The teen munched happily on the cereal as she watched an episode of The Crocodile Hunter clad in a pair of pajama pants and tank top that had been brought for her by Frank along a few other articles of clothing.
Frank couldn't help but smile when he saw that Remmie was sitting in the living room, eating cereal and watching television. "So, how are you doing today, Remmie?" he asked her, knowing that her English was starting to get a little better due to him talking with her and her watching some television.
The blond scooped a spoonful of cereal into her mouth when she heard Frank enter the house. "Good." The girl replied climbing up off the sofa after digesting down the cereal. "How are you doing today, Frank?" She asked with a smile turning the question back to the man.
His smile got wider when he realized just how much her English had improved. "I'm fine," he said to her. "Tired after a long day of work, though." Sometimes he wondered why he didn't go into private practice.
"Get some rest, yes." The teen nodded slightly. Remmie knew that when she started to tire all she wanted to do was curl up and rest herself for a little bit. That was one thing that she found the same here on dry land as she had back in Perthina.
He nodded. "That would be the plan," he said with a slight smile. "What have you been up to all day? Just watching television?" he asked her.
"Went swimming early. Had cereal. Watched The Croc Hunter and had more cereal." The blond told him, with a bit of a lopsided smile, lifting up the almost empty bowl of Cocoa Puffs. That had been her second full bowl consumed for the day.
"You went swimming?" That actually reminded him of something. "Um...how often do you need to go into the water? Is it every few hours, or like once a day?"
"Every night." Remmie answered with a smile. The girl kept herself hydrated during the sunlit hours by drinking plenty of water, but that would only keep her sustained for so many hours.
He nodded when she said every day. "Does it have to be salt water? Or would something like taking a bath here do for it?" He felt that he should know just in case, since he was the one caring for her and all.
"I could take a bath." Remmie answered. She had never considered it before because the mergirl preferred swimming long hours in the spacious ocean. The bathtub just seemed so small and confining to her, but it was an option should the need arise.
He nodded. "I know it's not the same as the ocean, but it's good to know that it would work in a pinch." he thought on something for a second. "Do you know what school is now?" He wasn't sure if she had seen it on TV yet.
Remmie nodded affirmatively to his question. "You go there to learn. Donovan goes to Regan High." The blonde told him. "Where is France?" Remmie asked then with an expectant look.
"France?" Frank asked. "Where did you learn about France?" OK, now for why he had asked the question in the first place. "I was asking about school because I was wondering if you'd like to go. We'd have to come up with a story for you to tell the school people, but, if you'd like to go, I think we can manage it." She would need a private tutor to catch her up as well, but he was sure it could be done, especially if she had picked up English so quickly.
"Donovan asked if I was from France." Remmie answered still unsure of where France was. "You could make it possible for me to go to a school?" The blonde asked with a brightened smile. The idea made her happy. Remmie knew it was a place were the young humans went to learn, and if she could go to one she was certain it would teach her more about the humans and their kind then what she might be able to gain from the television.
"I think you might need an extra teacher, you know, during the afternoons to catch you up on what the others already know, but I'm sure we can come up with a way for you to go in and not arouse *too* much suspicion." He was sure someone that Carly knew of would be able to get papers for her that made her legal enough to go to school. "France is a place across this country and then across another ocean from here. Far away. What did you tell Donovan?" If she said France, they would probably have to work with it. Hopefully she hadn't.
"I told him yes." The statement coming out sounding more like a question then something simply stated. "And then we went to grab a hot dog down the beach. He's nice like you, Frank. Though he talks a lot." The girl said with a smile.
They could still work with it. "Most people around here your age will talk a lot. It'll help you learn English better, though."
Remmie nodded at that. "When can I get a teacher?" Ever since she had left her ocean home of Perthina, Remmie had found herself eager to learn the talk and ways of the land people.
"I can hunt you one down right away," he said to her. There were plenty of people in LA that worked with 'English as a second language' students and foreign students. He just supposed that they wouldn't know exactly HOW foreign she really was.
