Sisterly Bonding
Who: Skylar and Lydia
Where: One of the many malls in LA
When: Saturday Afternoon, Sept. 4th
Skylar came out of another shop in the mall, carrying more bags than someone of her stature had any real business carrying, especially one who had given birth so recently. She was fine, though. Her little sister, on the other hand, was not. Since her boyfriend had moved away, she had been doing a lot of moping and sitting around the house, and Skylar figured that this was a good way of getting her out and about. No one in the James family turned down a good day of shopping.
"Thanks for goin' out with me, Jo." Lydia said with a smile, still unable to call her sister 'Skylar' without really trying. "I'm honestly doing a lot better though. I'm just... a little hurt now, really. I'm getting out more now, I'm hanging with my friends... Hell, I'm even flirting with people again."
"Well good!" Skylar said to her. "I'm not pushing you to go out and starting humping everything in sight or anything like that, but going out and being a little flirty is very good for you."
"And let me guess." She teased, trying not to laugh. "Stay AWAY from Meredith this time." She didn't even JOKE about staying away from Ben. Some things? Skylar would NOT have a sense of humor.
"Well, this time, only because she'll probably try to get you to have a threesome with my older son, so please spare me the idea of how scary that actually would be," Skylar pointed out.
"Hey! He's kinda my NEPHEW too! So... ewwwww." She nodded, laughing. "Actually... I kind of think I'm gonna enjoy school this year. I'm gonna start spending more time with Lucy Van Warren, I think. She's a really cool girl."
"She is a really cool girl," Skylar said. And might be a good influence on you, she added silently. Hey, threesome with Mere aside (which, who but Skylar HADN'T slept with Mere at this point, really?) seemed pretty damn wholesome. Shows what she knew, huh?
"Her boyfriend still kind of... gives me the creeps. But at least he's not there anymore." She admitted, looking over at Victoria's Secret. "Ok. For now, we're skipping that one. Because I have nobody to WEAR the crap for right now, and frankly, I don't need to know what YOU'RE wearing for Ben."
"He does that to everyone BUT Lucy, Mere, and Neely," Skylar pointed out. "And what makes you think that I have to wear anything for Ben?" Her man liked it better when she didn't wear anything underneath, since it meant that less got in the way, actually.
"Ok, ok. TMI, sis. The less I know about you two the better. For obvious reasons." She laughed again, rolling her eyes. "You got any single friends? Either gender is fine... you know me."
Skylar actually paused and thought about Lydia's last question. "I'm actually not too sure, to tell the truth." Which was kind of sad. "I'm actually fairly certain that most of my friends are attached in some way." She looked at Lydia. "Why don't you try dating someone from your school?"
"Honestly? Most of the people I know at school are nice looking but... kinda flaky. If LSD was single, then maybe we'd be in business. But otherwise, nah." Oh god. Now LYDIA was calling her that? Seriously?
Skylar snorted. "Such a weird name for a kid," she said. "Well, any outside of movie, anyway." She giggled. "Still, don't throw high school out the window just yet. Might be a new student there that might be perfect for you."
"Have you ever seen her around other kids? It's... kind of funny. Like watching a Queen Bee lording over it's subjects. Thank GOD she's such a sweetheart, or else it would be like having Camille Blake around again." Lydia realized, as she thought abotu the scope of Lucy's popularity.
Skylar nodded. "I have no idea who Camille Blake is, unless you mean that blond at the Sugar Shack, but it's good that Lucy doesn't let her popularity go to her head." A very good thing.
"So... can I ask you something just between us?" Lydia asked, arching an eyebrow as she did.
"Um...sure," Skylar said to her, leading her over to a bench so that the two could sit down and talk a little more. "We're sisters, remember? Ask away."
"Is it REALLY as natural as you make it seem? Being a mom to Brandie? I mean... she's only like ten years younger than you." Hey, she wasn't trying to be a bitch... it HAD to be asked!
"It helps that I already had a baby when she popped up," Skylar admitted. "And that she already sees me as such, because, you know, I am...or was...or will be. Something." She shook her head. "And she's about eleven years younger than me, but don't let that secret out."
"Because when she thinks of me as her Aunt, and I'm only three years older than her... god, I love her, Jo, but sometimes it kinda freaks me out!" She admitted, feeling like a huge piece of crap there.
"It is freaky," Skylar told her. "If I hadn't already had it happen to me THREE TIMES BEFORE, then maybe I would be a little more freaked out about it." Skylar had a point: between Ami, Bella, and Brayden all showing up, it was nothing for her to take care of Brandie now.
"You're really a good woman, Jo. Seriously. In case nobody's ever told you that... you really have so much love and compassion inside you..." Lydia actually seemed sweetly in awe of her sister there.
Skylar actually blushed a little. When you had almost gotten used to hearing either what a horrible person you were or something like that, then it was a pleasant surprise to hear something completely different. "Thanks," she said to Lydia.
"No need to thank me, Jo. You're the best sister I could ask for. You let me live with you guys, you don't give me shit about how I used to be, and you don't treat me like a kid. I love you, ya big doofus." Aww... Lydia actually leaned over and hugged Skylar then, grinning broadly.
Skylar reached around her sister and hugged her back. "Because I could judge you for anything after some of the stuff I've done over the years," she said. And not just the 'breaking up with the wife' thing. Skylar had ran quite wild in her own youth.
"You'll always be my best friend, Jo. Even when you're a famous rock star and I'm the lame sister that nobody talks to unless they need an interview for some docu-crap thingie on VH1." She cackled, heading towards the food court.
She snorted. "Please, you're way too good looking to not at least be able to get on a few reality shows or something," she teased. "Or we could be like the Baldwin family or something."
"Nice." Lyds smirked and pointed at a Cajun chicken place in the food court. "Ok, let's go get some food and laugh at how un-authentic it is."
Skylar grimaced. "God, they probably just burn everything, cover it in hot sauce, and call it 'cajun food'," she said with a sigh.
