The Old 'You Forgot a Book' Excuse
Who: Brandie, Julian, and Skylar
Where: Bale Estate
When: Friday Afternoon, Sept. 3rd
Julian Lasher, right now, had about a hundred conflicting emotions running through him. He knew that he shouldn't be doing this. He knew his father would be FURIOUS. But heh had to, somehow. When Brandie Bale had stopped by to say hello to him on her way out of school, she had accidentally left one of her books on the floor next to his locker. Now... common sense said to just take it home, and give it back to her on Monday morning. But common sense was no friend of Julian's right now. So he found himself at the gates of the Bale estate, pressing the buzzer, hoping that he wasnt getting too deep into anything he shouldn't be.
Brandie had actually been sitting in the living room, working on a little bit of homework when the doorbell rang. Instead of waiting and letting the butler get it, she bounded off for the door, grinning widely when she saw that Julian was on the other side. "Hey!" she said, beaming at him. "What's up?"
"Brandie.. hey..." He blushed brightly, thrusting the book toward her. "You... um... you left your History book at my locker. I didn't want you to not have it, in case you... you know... had... homework. Or something." He looked sadly drab here, wearing gray slacks and a blood-red long-sleeved shirt, shaggy black hair slightly hanging in his eyes.
"Oh, thanks!" she said, taking the book from him. "Would you like to come inside, hang for a bit or something?" God she hoped that he said yes. Her dad wasn't home at the moment, but Mom was, and, if she saw him and saw that he was OK, maybe she'd put in a good word to Dad, huh?
No. No way. If he walked in that gate, and entered her house, he'd be going WAY further than he should. Uh-uh. "S-Sure. I'd love to." D'OH!
Her grin got almost impossibly wider, stepping aside so that he could come in. "Can I get you something to drink or anything?" she asked, shutting the door behind him after he walked in.
"N-No... I just... I didn't want you to be without your book and oh my GOD this place is huge..." He muttered without really thinking about it. He'd never been in a place like this... it was like someplace a movie star would live.
She giggled a little at his last response. "Yeah, it's kind of big here," she said to him. She had grown up around it, though, so she didn't always notice just how freaking big this place really was.
"I hope I didn't interrupt anything..." He mumbled nervously, stuffing his hands into his pockets, a blush again coming over his pale features.
"Not at all," she told him. "I was actually just working on a little homework, so you totally were helpful by bringing by a book." Not that she was going to be able to concentrate on any sort of homework now, though.
"You sure your parents won't mind me being here?" He asked, honestly just a sweet boy at heart. "I wouldn't want to get you in any kind of trouble..."
"No, they won't mind at all," Brandie said to him with a sweet smile. "I think they'll be happy to see me with a friend who isn't a direct relative, honestly." Her acting all normal? What wasn't there to love?
"Ok... um... mind if I sit down then?" He asked, looking to the massive sofa nearby. "I still can't believe I actually did this. Every part of me was screaming not to come."
She nodded, flopping down on the couch by him. "Why was part of you screaming not to come?" she asked, looking up at him.
Oh man. Ok. So he was trying not to think of her in a romantic way. First, he wasn't supposed to get close to people. Second, while he wasn't TOO much older than her, she was still a VERY young girl. Note that despite what his brain was telling him... he didn't make any attempt to move. "The parts that know I'm not supposed to... grow attached to anyone. And the part that knows you're too young and too wonderful to get caught up in my personal crap."
"Well, I freely admit that I'm kind of young, but my life hasn't been free and void of drama that I bet you couldn't quite wrap your head around." She was sure that his drama was serious, but how many people other than Superman had their parents send them away just as their world was being destroyed? Really? "I wish you didn't have to worry about getting close to anyone, though."
"I swear... eventually, when I'm sure I can tell you without endangering you... I will." He said, briefly finding their eyes locking, and finding himself unable to look away.
She nodded. "If it helps, I can tell you what happened to me." Sharing secrets brought forth trust, right? "And show you that I can actually believe just about anything, when it comes to crazy stuff, and *not* be afraid."
"I'm not going to make you feel like you need to bribe me to hear things..." He sighed, leaning his head back. "Just remember... you wanted to hear it. My father... used to be a high priest of a demonic cult. I was originally conceived to be a vessel for the Antichrist itself. My father... changed his mind at the last moment, and has been trying to hide me and protect me from having that happen... ever since."
She nodded, taking it all in for a second. "Wow...that is extreme." Scary, even, but it didn't make her want to get away from him or anything like that. "At least your father did change his mind." She looked back up at him. "I'm still willing to share with you, though. No bribery or anything."
He nodded, trying to look into her eyes without being a doofus and just... losing himself in them. "Alright then..."
"Well, to start, you're actually probably...twenty years older than me instead of just two," she told him. "As weird as it sounds, I'm actually from the future. Something went wrong with the timestream, though, and the world was kind of crashing down around us literally, and my mom kind of snuck me out and to the past. My parents are still the same and everything, just a lot younger than they really should be to have a fourteen year old daughter. Here they just say that they adopted me."
"Whoa..." He breathed out shakily, not at all frightened, just... strangely awed. This was like something out of the sci-fi movies he'd watched as a boy. "That's... god, are you alright?" He knew he sensed true strength and courage in her... and now? He knew he was right.
She nodded. "I kind of went into shock for a while, kind of clinging to my mom and dad and probably driving them completely batty." And she had, but it was fine. Parental love can conquer A LOT, it seemed. "How are YOU with what you had to grow up around, though?"
"Dealing. Somehow. It's terrifying really.. but I take things day by day. And I manage to find things to... make me smile." He said, as really? Since the day they'd met... the thing that had done it was thinking of her smile.
She reached over and squeezed his hand. "Sounds kind of like how I deal with things now," she admitted to him. She had found someone that made her smile as well.
And this would be a wonderful place to leave them if it weren't for Skylar walking into the room and seeing her daughter gazing lovingly at a boy. She stifled a giggle and cleared her throat loudly. "Brandie...I didn't realize you had company," she said with a laugh in her voice.
"OhCRAP." He muttered, blushing FURIOUSLY when Skylar walked in, unable to meet her eyes, as if she could read his mind or something.
Brandie looked a little mortified herself. She hadn't exactly wanted to get caught just like THAT, you know? "Oh...Mom, this is Julian from school," she said, giving a weak smile. "He brought me over a book that I forgot with him."
Skylar was just trying to not crack up at this point. OK, not the best parental example, huh? "So this is the famous Julian then, huh?" She walked over and offered her hand to him. "I'm Skylar, Brandie's mom."
"...famous?" He whispered, almost more to himself, before taking Skylar's hand politely. "Julian Lasher. It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am." And how stupid did he feel, calling a woman maybe 7 years or so older than him that?
Skylar was starting to get used to the idea of someone calling her ma'am now. She was someone's mother now, after all. "Pleasure's all mine," she said, giving a quick look to Brandie that said 'definite score for you.'
Of course her mother would embarrass her a little. UGH!!! "Mom, don't say 'famous!'" Brandie squealed. Really, was she trying to make her wish that the floor would open up and swallow her whole?
He looked at Brandie as if asking for an explanation of 'famous', before looking to Skylar again. "Thank you... for allowing me to be in your home. I... I didnt realize YOU were Brandie's mother. I... I actually really like your band."
Skylar's smile brightened. "Really? Thanks," she said to him. "Well, before I horrify my daughter any more, I'll leave you two be. If you want anything to eat or drink, kitchen's open to you." With that, she head off, making sure to leave before she started giggling at them and their adorableness.
Brandie was definitely blushing at this point. "Even the younger version of my mother can be horribly vindictive and embarrassing," she muttered.
"She... seems very nice." He said simply, not about to mention that when he'd seen them in concert he actually found Skylar terribly hot. Nope. He was NEVER EVER EVER going to mention that. TO ANYONE. "Anyway... I... I hate that I can't stop thinking about you, Brandie. Nobody's ever treated me like you do. Like... I'm somebody special."
She would probably die if he told her that, so be glad that he didn't. "I wish you didn't hate it," she said to him. "I can't stop thinking of you, either. You are someone special to me."
"At the risk of angering my father.. and possibly making a fool of myself here..." He took in a deep breath, sighing. "Would you go out with me sometime? You're... you're so sweet, and just beautiful... it would be such an honor."
She practically glowed with happiness when he said that. "I'd love to go out with you," she said to him, smiling brightly up at him. God, this was making her SO happy!
If he felt bed for being attracted to a girl so young, he felt even WORSE when she smiled like that and he realized how it made him feel. "Your smile is seriously just... wow. It kind of makes me speechless."
She blushed a tad. "Thanks," she said to him. "I like it when you smile, too." It made her kind of feel like jello on the inside, actually, but a good kind of jello, like strawberry.
He didnt say anything for a few moments, instead caught between the pleasant surprise of having set up his first date, and still finding himself unable to stop looking into her eyes.
