Foriegn Exchange Student? Really? Who: Remmie and introducing Donovan McHugh Where: The Beach When: Tuesday Afternoon - August 31
Remmie had again 'borrowed' some of Frank's clothes before she left the confines of the physician's beach house. The pajama bottoms and t-shirt were a bit loose fitting, but the mergirl found them comfortable. And the baseball cap she found did quite the good job of shielding her eyes from the sun as she sat on the small stretch of beach behind the man's house as she looked out into the ocean.
"Fine... you guys be a couple of pussies. I'm gonna stick around and get some sun." Donovan McHugh scoffed at the three friends he'd been throwing a football back and forth to on the beach. While they headed back to their cars, to go home and do their homework... Donovan didn't care about that stuff. As long as he got decent enough grades, his football skills were going to carry him to a scholarship and more girls than he could handle. He KNEW it. As he walked toward the shore, looking for a place to relax... he caught sight of Remmie and just blinked. Damn.
Taking a drink from one of the water bottles sitting on the sand beside her Remmie let her eyes drift closed for a moment as a warm rush of breeze filtered in from the ocean. It felt nice on her face and the scents she slowly inhaled were a mix of air and water. Familiar smells that reminded her a little bit of the watery home she had come from. All this had the girl oblivious to the fact that she wasn't necessarily alone on the beach anymore.
"Umm... hey there." Donovan blurted out with a lopsided grin. "You were kind of in the way of the path of was running on... I was thinking you could make it up to me by letting me sit down and talk to you..." Hey, shut up. He was a big-time, popular jock. He didn't NEED good pick-up lines normally.
"Hello." Squinting up at the boy she thought talked a bit too much, Remmie offered him a faint smile. Her vocabulary had improved greatly, but that didn't mean the girl had turned into a rambler. At least she'd be able, hopefully, to hold a conversation.
"I'm Donovan. What's your name?" He asked, extending his hand to her, finding her to be almost ridiculously cute. Well, he DID have quite a thing for blondes... they were sort of his weakness.
"Remmie." The girl answered glancing from the boy to his outstretched hand and then back. Was she suppose to respond to that in some way? Maybe she would inquire of Frank when he got home later that day.
"....right." He said, blinking in confusion as he pulled his hand back. Was she fucking with him or something? Hrm. "So... um... do you go to school around here? I go to Reagan High..."
Remmie frowned slightly thinking she hadn't acted appropriately judging by the look on the boy's face. "No." She answered. "I have only been here two days." She had seen a show on the television where children went to school, so she at least had an idea of what it was.
"Oh man... you just moved? Sorry to hear that. That can make fitting in kinda rough." Far be it from him not to flirt with a hot blonde, though... "Are you gonna be going there though? If so... you should hang out with me and my friends. We'll help you get known faster..."
"Just moved." Remmie nodded. If only the boy knew. "I don't know." The girl answered truthfully. "But maybe we can still hang out." Remmie said sounding a bit unsure of the meaning of hanging out.
"I'd like that. Maybe I can take you to lunch sometime. Maybe to a movie or something..." Obviously, it was Donovan's football skills and jock status that made him popular, not his expert conversing skills.
Remmie quoted a line from something she had seen playing on the television. "Are you asking me out?" Wasn't that what it was called? A date? One human asking another out somewhere. He was quite good looking, better looking then some of the males of her people, and he did seem harmless enough.
"Yeah... I guess I am." Ok, so he was a LITTLE thrown by how.. strange and distant she seemed. Luckily, he found her far too cute to give up on already. "So, here's where you say 'yes', and we plan what we're going to do together. Personally, I was thinking grab a hot dog at that awesome little vendor down the beach, then maybe see a movie and go for a long walk."
The blond just looked at him for a moment. He certainly did seem to enjoy talking. "That's a lot to do on one date." The teen finally said. "Why would you want to grab a hot dog?" Remmie looked to the boy seeming serious in her questioning. Wasn't that a kind of food the land people ate?
"Um... it's... it just means order them, then eat them together." Ohhh, NOW he understood. So he thought. "You're not from this country, are you?"
If only he knew the truth. "Not from around here." Remmie said with a little bit of disappointment. Did that now mean he wouldn't want to 'hang out' with her because she wasn't from the area.
"Ok, that explains a lot... hey, don't worry. Stick with me, I'll help you get more used to how we talk here." Poor dude. He was honestly thinking 'oh hey, she must be from France, or Russia, or something'.
"People are so friendly here." Remmie blurted out with a smile after stopping herself from saying humans instead of people. This, though, was based on her interaction with Frank, and now Donovan. If only Remmie knew that not all humans were as nice and friendly as the two humans she had had contact with.
"Glad you feel that way. Not everyone's nice though.. be careful of the mean ones. So... where are you from? I'm guessing France. Everyone says all the prettiest girls are from France." God... Donovan was SO clueless when it came to the supernatural.
"France, yes." Remmie answered with a slight nod of her head. Wasn't like she could tell him she was actually from the underwater city of Perthina. She would have to ask Frank about this place, France. Try and learn all she could about it. There was so much she still had yet to learn about this world.
Luckily, Donovan was clueless enough that if she told him the Roman Coliseum was in France, he wouldn't bat an eyelash. So no worries there. "Cool. So... do your folks live here too? Or are you an exchange student or something?"
"I live with Frank." The teen informed him. Well, she didn't exactly live with the man as it was more he was letting her stay with him in the beach house. Something she really didn't need to share with Donovan at the moment.
Ooook... he wasn't quite sure what that meant, but hey, for now? Better to think she was an exchange student than some creepy mail-order mate or something for this 'Frank' guy. "So what grade are you in? I'm a senior this year..."
"I am only visiting." She told him. Which was truthful for the most part, Remmie just didn't know how long she would remain in this place above the water.
Hrm. Somehow... the strange way this girl spoke, the cryptic way she avoided almost every question he asked her... he found it both infuriating... and oddly appealing. Like it in some way made him want to get to know her MORE. "Well, then while you're visiting, I'd love to help you make some nice memories of being here..."
"Memories are nice." She returned with a gentle smile. She certainly had stacks of them from her home within the ocean. "Wanna go grab a hot dog." The blond grinned as she lifted up to her feet. Not that she'd actually get a hot dog, but maybe there'd be something else she could try that wouldn't have her repeating the tomato and mustard incident.
He hopped to his feet with a small grunt, offering her his hand. "I'd love to. Let me show you how teenagers in this country have fun." Ok, so... he couldn't help it. In his head? He was thinking that this was just... AWESOME.
