Making More Friends
Who: Tara and Bastian
Where: Ashes to Ashes
When: Aug. 28th
Bastian was slowly yet surely getting used to working at Ashes to Ashes. Of course, it helped that Delilah was a good employer. She taught the leggy blonde the ropes without it being too difficult a task. Bastian came in a few minutes before her shift started, wearing tight jeans and a collared shirt and carrying two bottles of water, one of which was for Tara.
Tara had come in today wearing a brown peasant skirt and a white blouse, and had worked the morning shift at Ashes to Ashes today. Fall classes had started at UCLA, and she was enjoying them greatly so far. It also brought in more business, which kept her busy at the store. She was also starting to get used to talking to the other customers that came into the store. She still preferred to be doing inventory, though. She was actually going to be soon getting off when Bastian came in with the bottles of water. "Thank you," she said softly when Bastian gave her the bottle of water.
"Hydration's important," Bastian told her with a small, pleasant smile before taking a sip of her own water. "Good day so far?"
Tara nodded. "It's been kind of busy," she said. "I th...think a lot of freshman stu...students are coming in and checking the place out," she told Bastian.
"Is there a large community on campus?" Bastian asked with an arched eyebrow as she started merching the shelves.
"Well, sort of. There's a Wicca group, but they are more show than actual practicers," Tara said. "Luckily they don't even know enough to really even get in trouble." Good for them.
Bastian giggled(!), "Luckily. People shouldn't mess with things that they don't understand."
"It would be good if people thought that way," Tara said to her. "Then ma...maybe less problems would happen." People wouldn't learn anything, though. So, you had pros and cons.
"Oh well. At least Delilah seems to put the more dangerous items out of sight." She'd noticed, but respected Delilah enough not to touch. She quickly and politely rung a sale for a customer before speaking again, "If only everyone were more conscience."
Tara nodded. "Ms. Zamora is very cautious about stuff like that." Tara could actually sense that the woman had some sort of accidental run in with some bad magic, although she wasn't certain just what it was. She could just see some residual greyness in her aura. She nodded when Bastian said the last part. "If only."
Bastian smiled faintly, honestly surprised that she found it so easy to talk to Tara. Perhaps there was something about her shy nature. She exuded a tranquility that was hard not to be caught up in. "Do you have any plans for the rest of the day?"
Tara shook her head. "I was just going to go back to my apartment," she told Bastian. "Maybe do some homework." Of course, she didn't have too much homework yet, but even doing a little would keep her ahead.
"That sounds... Incredibly boring," Bastian replied. Sure, she was a homework fiend herself, but... "You shouldn't spend such a beautiful day cooped up inside alone."
Tara giggled. "Yeah well, sometimes homework has to be d...done," she told Bastian. She was right about one thing, though: it was a gorgeous day outside.
"It does, unfortunately. Still, you're not allowed to stay in all afternoon. My word is law," she smirked playfully.
That actually made Tara laugh. "Well, if your word is law, then I guess I'll have to do it."
Bastian smiled and kept moving around, trying to keep busy. She wasn't one to sit still. "Good. It doesn't hurt to enjoy the little things."
"No," she agreed. "You should always enjoy the little things in life." That was the truth. Sometimes the little things were all they had, after all.
"I think today's the last day for the Sawdust Art Festival," Bastian suggested. Why she felt the desire to force Tara out into the world was anyone's guess. Perhaps she thought someone so nice shouldn't be so sheltered.
"Sawdust Art Festival?" Tara asked. "Wh...what is that?" Did they make art out of sawdust? That seemed a little strange.
"It's just a big art and craft festival that they hold over the summer. I thought that you might like it," Bastian replied. It didn't seem to her that Tara was the type to go to Avarice, after all.
"Oh, OK!" Tara said with a giggle. "That sounds neat. I thought that maybe you were talking like pe...people making stuff out of sawdust or something."
"No," Bastian giggled. "I have no idea why they named it that, honestly."
"You know, there probably is someone out there that makes art out of sawdust," Tara said with another giggle.
"That wouldn't surprise me. I'd always been interested in people who made ice sculptures. To make something so beautiful only to watch it melt away." She frowned thoughtfully and then shrugged, "But that's just me."
Tara nodded. "That does sound like it would be something beautiful. I've never lived anywhere where people could take up ice sculpting seriously, though." Before she had ran away from home, she had lived in the south, and then San Diego before coming here.
Bastian smiled faintly, a little curious there - but she didn't want to ask. "One of my sister's used to drag me around to those kinds of things. Not that I'm complaining." Hell, Blake helped her with her medical studies. It was just what siblings did.
Tara actually didn't have a sister. She had a brother, and he was kind of an ass (in the literal sense), but she had always wanted a sister. "Sounds like they were a lot of fun to watch."
"They were. Which is why I'm going to practically force you to go out today," Bastian replied with a smile.
"Force me to go out?" Tara asked with just a hint of mischievous in her eyes. Other than Willow and Rachelle (and Ash to an extent), Bastian was the closest thing to a friend she had in this city. She was actually somewhat playful with people she was comfortable with. "And how would you do that?"
"I have my ways and means," Bastian replied, unable to contain that brilliant smile that was usually reserved for Meeghan as she waggled her fingers playfully. D'aw. Looks like she had a goofy side, too.
