Visiting the Library
Who: Brandie and Julian
Where: Regan High School Library
When: Thursday, 8/26, Lunchtime
Today during lunch, Brandie actually went to the library in order to have a little peace and quiet away from the cafeteria. It was too loud when she went in, plus she was pretty sure that there was about to be a food fight breaking out. So, instead of eating, she went into the library to read or work on homework or...just avoid getting hit in the head with a roll, honestly.
Lost in his own little world, Julian was actually there as well, intently reading a copy of Milton's 'Paradise Lost', silent as a statue as he sat there, eyes narrow in concentration, clad in black slacks and a navy blue turtleneck.
It had actually taken Brandie a little while to realize that Julian was in the library as well. There wasn't a librarian in the room, so she felt pretty free to talk as well. Sitting down at his table, she actually tapped on his book. "Hi," she said to him.
Comically enough, he seemed startled as he jumped a little, but still gave a small smile when he saw her there. "If I didn't know better, I'd say I have a stalker..." He winked, that sad, soft voice teasing a little.
"I came in here to avoid a food fight," she said to him quickly. "The football table was already throwing stuff at what I believe might be the basketball players."
"Ah. Jocks. Such wonderful, intelligent young men they are." He said with all the sincerity of someone who just claimed to like being punched in the face.
"Hey, you're talking to a dedicated softball player here," she teased him. A softball player who was more than willing to use her werewolf abilities to her advantage. "Still, I don't fall under 'jock' mentality, do I?"
"No... I would say you're about the farthest thing FROM." He said simply, taking a moment to just... study her. So he was fond of her already. Shut it.
Brandie tilted her head and smiled at him brightly. "So, are you hiding out in here as well, or do you spend most of your lunches in here reading?"
"I'm trying to find someplace I can go where I don't feel... out of place." He admitted, forcing away a blush. "And among the other students... the only time I haven't felt that way is when I was talking to you."
She nodded. "It's just nice to be away from all of the screaming hordes for a change," she admitted. "It is nice and peaceful in here." She looked at him. "I'm glad that you don't feel out of place with me, though."
"Strangely... when I talk to you... I feel an odd sense of calm come over me. I... I like it." This was where the differences between this boy and Ash started to be clear. The darkness here wasn't something he so much embraced as... had to deal with. He truly seemed like a boy who WANTED to be normal.
She reached over and squeezed his hand. "I'm glad that I make you feel calm," she said to him. She really liked being around him, too, although calmness wasn't what she got from him. She wasn't sure WHAT it was that she got from him, but she liked it.
Oddly, Julian WAS picking up that he was having some kind of effect on her, but the part of him that had such low self-esteem wasn't QUITE getting exactly what effect that was. "I'm... really not supposed to get close to people, Brandie. For my own good AND for theirs. But you... you're making me want to throw caution to the wind here. And I feel irresponsible for it."
"Well, I don't want you to get hurt just for getting close to me," Brandie said to him. "I don't want you to worry about my own welfare, though. I am more than capable of taking care of myself." Plus she had the protection of the Bale family behind her. She wasn't worried.
"It's not that. Its just..." He shook his head and grumbled. "I'm dangerous, Brandie. And if you ever got hurt because of me I'd never forgive myself."
"I just don't understand why you are so dangerous," she said to him. "You don't seem dangerous to me."
"You're... just going to have to trust me there for now." He said with a sad sigh, because while he completely adored Brandie, he didn't know her nearly well enough to tell her what he truly was, nor about the destiny he fought so hard to avoid.
She nodded. "I do trust you," she said to him. "Doesn't mean that I'm going to stay away from you, though. I'm not afraid." She was actually afraid of very little these days.
"...that's your choice." He replied, smirking as he rolled his eyes. "I... don't have the willpower to keep away from you on my own." Which was his way of sayin that, well, he kind of liked her.
Brandie smiled at him. "Good, because it wouldn't work anyway." She already liked him too much to listen to anything like reason.
"Why are you so determined to stick by me, Brandie?" He asked in a tone that showed he REALLY didn't think himself worthy of the time of a girl so cute and sweet.
"Because you are a sweet guy and I like you, and, well, that's really good enough for me," she said to him with a smile. "So, unfortunately, I think you might be stuck with me, Julian. Whatever will you do?"
"So... Since I seem to be 'stuck' with you now..." He said with a little teasing, "what exactly does this all entail? Can't say I've ever had a friend before..."
She smiled. "Well, we hang out, we talk, whatever really." She actually wasn't sure how to explain what friends do.
"Hang out? I... think we can do that." He smiled, hoping his father wouldn't flip out TOO badly over this. "I still say that as friends go, you could do far better..."
She waved his concern away with her hand. "Hey, I choose my friends, and I chose you for a reason. So don't you keep saying stuff like that and just be friends with me, OK?"
"Ok, I guess I can manage that." He smiled gently, trying to fight off the not-so-little crush he felt building for the young girl.
She was developing a huge crush on him as well, but wasn't sure if she should pursue it, either. What was going on with him. Still, she WANTED to date him, she just wasn't sure if he would let it happen. "Good," she said to him with a small smile.
