Meeting New Friends
Who: Buffy and India
Where: Avarice
When: Friday Night, 8/19
"Reeeeeal smart, India." The blonde slayer muttered to herself as she walked into Avarice, looking around. "Clubbing. When your only friend is NOT available. And look like a total scrub walking around alone. Good. Real good." Sadly this was a normal occurrence. The muttering to herself when frustrated part, anyway. Wearing a cute white knee-length skirt and a blue button-down open at the tummy, India raised an eyebrow as she scanned the people in the club, maybe hoping, if nothing else, to see a guy to flirt with or something.
Buffy had come in on her own as well, but she was more than OK with that. Kevin was busy with Lucy in the studio tonight, and her friends were off doing god knows what (possibly playing with wheat threshers, ALWAYS WITH THE WHEAT THRESHERS), so that left her on her own. When she sat down at the bar, she gave a smile to the other blond near her to looked like she was looking around for someone she knew.
India did a double take when she saw Buffy. She knew she saw her before, and then it hit her: she'd finally stopped at the Hyperion, taking a look around (since she still didn't have a formal watcher), and had seen the girl training with one of the 'Junior Watchers', the crazy goth kid she remembered from Sunnydale. She walked over to the slightly younger girl and stuck her hands in the back pockets of that skirt, giving a wry grin. "So... I know I saw you at The Hyperion..." her way of saying she knew what the girl was, "but I don't know your name. And I'm lame as hell and know like, NOBODY, so here's where I sit with you and stuff, because you can't be mean enough to send me off to be all crazy lame."
Buffy laughed, but not in a mean way. Just that...well, she was pretty sure that sounded like something SHE would say at one time. "I'm Buffy Summers," she said, offering her hand to the girl. "And yeah, training at the Hyperion. And no, I won't send you away because I'm totally NOT a mean bitch like that."
"India Cohen. Spelled like the country." The other blonde said, shaking Buffy's hand. "I've... only been here a couple months. Just moved to sorta be closer to my best friend." Sadly, since she'd been resurrected, Iris had been about the only constant, good thing in India's life.
"Neat name," Buffy said to her. At least she wouldn't called 'Fluffy' by assholes, like she did. Of course, Buffy kicked said assholes asses now, because they were vampires, so it was OK! "And that's a good reason to move. I'd move to be nearer to MY best friend."
"Funny enough, I recognized a few of you from Sunnydale. I was there very briefly after I..." face it, you don't tell someone you just met that you were dead once, right? "I had gone away for a few years."
Strangely, Buffy wouldn't bat an eye at that at this point. These people just DID NOT DIE, you know? "A couple of us were in Sunnydale, but others came in after the whole operation moved to LA."
"I guess they're gonna find me a new watcher... my last one... well, it just didn't work out." Of course, that was because they had once been in love, and then it was a big thing, and blah blah. But shh.
"It doesn't always work out, unfortunately." Something that Buffy knew a good bit about, unfortunately. "I think they're training a few more and bringing some more in, though. Seems like they find new Slayers every day." That'll happen when you do a spell, Buffy!
"Well, at least I know they're looking. I guess now they actually try to make sure the slayer and watcher are compatible." Which was a novel concept indeed, to her. "How's things with you and yours? I know you got stuck with one of the Junior guys..."
"He's great, actually," Buffy said to her. "I...actually dated him briefly, but we're still friends, too." It was kind of strange, actually. "Even though he didn't technically get to have the training that some of the older Watchers got, he does have wicked cool magic stuff and helps out a lot."
"Ouch. Yeah. I kinda did the 'dating-your-watcher' thing. Or at least tried to. We... were in love for a time. Didn't work out." She said, actually over it now, "This whole starting-over thing is just hard. I don't wanna cling too much to my friend, because she DOES have a life outside of me, but I don't really know anyone else. Which freakin' SUCKS."
"Well, you're getting a good start in knowing people other than her now, right?" Buffy said, trying to help as much as she could. "I mean, you're out, talking to someone that's not her, and even making good conversation."
"Yeah, well... I saw you here and figured you seemed cool, you know? I mean, most of the other girls are way younger than me, the two I've seen that are close to my age, well... one seems kinda dark and twisty with her anger and tattoos, and the other one barely even trains. I heard she's more concerned with being a singer than a slayer." Hey, she never met Skylar, ok? She only knew what she heard! "You can't be more than like.. a year or two younger than me though."
"If you're talking about Skylar, she only became a Slayer out of some sort of time fluke that honestly would take WAY longer than normal to explain." Sadly, she wasn't even exaggerating. "She does more personal training with her Watcher and werewolf husband, though. She doesn't come into the Hyperion at all."
"Werewolf husband." She laughed, rolling her eyes. "Do any of us do ANYTHING normal?"
"Not a bit," Buffy told her. "Well, I'm just dating a singer with no special powers what so ever, unless sounding so close to Rob Halford while still being straight is a power, which it totally is."
"Wow... seriously? I'm not really a rock grrl, but that sounds kinda awesome." Ok, so... she HAD to ask. "..he a hottie?"
"I definitely think so," Buffy said with a smile. "He's the lead singer for Van Warren." And pretty much the only man in her line of sight these days.
"Oh! I know who you're talking about! I saw a poster of them at the Sugar Shack!" Oh, how cute... she was actually excited just to know SOMETHING that one of her peers was talking about. "Yeah, you're a lucky girl, then. Is he as... hyper as his sisters? Because those two? Are kind of... um... insane?"
Buffy just laughed and shook her head. "Nowhere NEAR as hyper, although Lucy is totally adorable. I don't know Chloe as well, so I can't say one way or another how nice she is."
"Sounds like I picked the right person to talk to..." India said sweetly. "Some of the others seem so... either all hyper-serious or kinda spazzy. You seem more like me."
"Well, looks are deceiving with some of them," Buffy told her. "Catherine is actually kind of nice. She's like...head Slayer or something. She's all business when 'on the clock' though. She's not HALF as scary as she looks, though." Buffy thought. "Faith is definitely cool, but she'll try to sleep with you, because she's Faith. Sin's nice, but a total spaz. She can't walk without falling. She nearly decapitated her watcher a week or two ago." Those were the ones that Buffy really knew at all.
"They... sound very interesting." India said with a bit of a grimace, figuring, with HER luck, she'd end up having to patrol or something with the clutz or the girl who'd try to sleep with her.
Buffy held back a laugh at the face that she was making. "Plenty of other girls, those are just the ones that I know," Buffy pointed out to her.
"So, does it seem hard for the other girls to meet a decent guy out here? I mean yeah, you got a gem, but is that rare?" She blushed, rolling her eyes. "Sorry... I don't mean to seem all desperate... I'm just getting a little... ok, desperate. Sigh."
"Well, a couple of them are gay, so that kind of takes them out of the equation," Buffy said quickly. "Most of them actually find someone worth spending time with, though, male or female."
"Thank god. Seriously, I'm SO tired of being the third wheel all the time. I mean look at me!" She kind-of flailed a little, "I mean, I'm not like... Ms. Supermodel here but I know damn well I'm attractive!"
Buffy smiled. "Of course you are," she told India. "Besides, LA is much larger than Sunnydale. You have a lot more to choose from here than you did there."
"Well... at least you're friendly. I don't know if I'D be this sweet if some total stranger just plopped down next to me like she was my best freakin' friend." India admitted with a little, sideways smirk.
Buffy just shrugged. "If I didn't know you at all, I might be a little more wary, but you're a sister Slayer, so you're automatically cool." OK, not all Slayers were cool in Buffy's opinion, but it was more like starting a class with an A and then being forced by doing work to keep it. You had to lose it.
"Thanks, seriously. Always good to know you have another friend to lean on." India smiled, sticking her hand out to Buffy.
Buffy shook her hand. "Always a pleasure to make more friends." And it really was.
