An Admission
Who: Mere and Ash
Where: Eden
When: Aug 20th, Evening
Mere sat at Eden waiting for Ash to show up. She hadn't seen him in a while, and, while her friendship with him seemed to annoy the piss out of Brayden, she wasn't going to give it up. She had taken a step back so that him and Lucy could reestablish their...whatever, but she missed her friend damnit. She called him and they agreed to meet at Eden, which was why she was here now sipping at a Cosmopolitan and waiting for his dark ass to show up.
"Miss me, babe?" Came the first words from Ash's mouth as he smirked, walking in in one of his old black suits, opening his arms to her. "Ok, so... I *hope* so, because I've frankly missed you an idiotic amount."
She reached over and hugged him. "Always," she purred, holding on for a second longer than necessary before letting him go. "How've you been doing?"
"Good. Happy with Lucy, anyway. A little... empty inside without my powers, but... so far? I'm dealing." He lowered his voice, sounding, sweetly, almost like Courtney in admitting this. "I actually REALLY miss seeing you, Mere."
"So, are you really just completely without them now?" It was kind of hard to picture Ash without his powers, after all. "And I totally miss seeing you, too. That's why I called you, after all."
"You know... no matter HOW in love we are with anyone else..." He smirked, knowing this was the damn truth. "We'll ALWAYS be drawn to each other, huh."
She smirked at him. "Well duh," she said. "You're just going to have to get used to it." Lucy seemed to accept it pretty well, much better than him fathering kids with Neely, if rumors were to be believed. Hopefully Brayden would, too.
"Yeah, I think SO." He laughed, shaking his head. "We're really bonded for life, I think. I seriously think you and I share a love Lucy and Brayden will never truly understand, try as they might."
Mere herself knew that she wasn't particularly bothered by this. The only who really seemed bothered by it was Brayden, and maybe that was because he just truly and utterly didn't GET that you could love more than one person at the same time. Lucy at least seemed to have an idea of it. "Well, it's not like it's a bad thing."
"Never." He gave her a little kiss on the forehead before sitting down, gesturing for her to do the same. "So, how HAVE things been with your new beau?"
"Been going pretty good, actually," Mere told him with a smile. "Of course, things haven't been going so good for Deanna, but I've been trying to help with that as well."
"Yeah... I heard the other watchers talking... sounds like Kayla's a little off-the-deep-end." He sighed, knowing that while Deanna wasn't his biggest fan, she was a good, decent girl, and Meredith's best friend. "Dee deserves better."
"Definitely went a little off the deep end," Mere agreed with a nod. "Not sure what the hell is going on with her, but I'd rather she didn't hurt my friend in the process, thanks."
"I get that. Just... I know you, Mere. Don't do anything stupid, ok? You're not a vampire anymore. She'd turn you to powder." Ok, so Ash didn't really think Meredith would go after Kayla... but he also knew she could be a little crazy when it came to Deanna.
"I'm not planning on doing anything physical!" Mere said to him. "I just hope that she spirals into her own misery of being STUPID enough to break up with someone as hot as Dee and treating her badly to boot."
"I just hope we can help her before she hurts someone. Badly." He wasn't sure what Mere knew here... "She kind of went batshit and beat up one of the watchers."
OK, that was news. "Damn, really? Girlfriend really is batshit, isn't she?" Mere had no idea that Kayla was quite that nuts. "What the hell is her problem, anyway?"
"No idea. Mr. Giles thinks its... post-traumatic stress. Sort of like what soldiers go through coming home from a war. She's been like this since coming out of that coma." He shook his head, obviously frustrated. "Whatever attacked her... it also attacked your friend Rachelle, and is starting to accumulate quite a body count."
"So I've heard," Mere said about such a body count. "I don't know what the hell that thing is, but it's screwing up everyone's lives and it needs to be stopped and shoved back into hell where it belongs."
"You won't believe how we got all the info we HAVE on this thing..." Ash snickered, shaking his head in disbelief.
She tiled her head at him a little. "Alright, I'll bite," Mere said to him with a grin. "How did you get it?" Because it was Ash, it HAD to be something epic.
"Not one of us... the watchers, I mean... could figure out what the hell was going on. So who comes to Mr. Giles with literally an entire folder's worth of information? Your buddy BEN." Why did Ash find this so amusing? Maybe because he found the idea of Ben being useful at all kind of funny?
Mere started laughing herself. Hey, she didn't realize that Ben had uses outside of sex, either. "And how the hell did HE find out all about this?"
"No idea. Sounds like maybe he takes this mafia-shit more seriously than I thought. Looks like he has access to info about, well... damn-near ANYTHING." Ash couldn't help but laugh there. "I think Mr. Giles almost shit a brick."
Mere cackled. "Mr. Giles should realize that Ben is a werewolf mafioso," she said with another laugh. "Seriously, he can make disappear like that," she added with a snap of her finger. "Still, at least he came up with some good info, however the hell he got it."
"I admit to being... suitably impressed. If Ben's right... he might know how to beat this thing and everything." Ash shook his head, before, in typical style with these two, changing the subject seamlessly. "Damn, you look great today."
"Wow, you know how to stay on topic so well," she said playfully to him. Sadly, if they wanted her to come back to them, she would AT LEAST have a very hard time saying no. Damn that pull she has to them, huh?
"Can't help it, Mere... we may not be dating, but I *still* think yer sexy as hell and you KNOW it." He winked at her, getting that unintentionally-charming, semi-shy grin on his lips that she knew so well.
She smiled. "Well duh I'm hot," she said to him. "And of course you know it. Everyone does." Well, at least we can say that she has a healthy dose of self confidence, can't we?
"Very true." Ash offered simply, deciding to shut up before they got themselves into a situation neither Lucy nor Brayden would likely appreciate. "So how's things with the band? Your first CD's due out soon, isn't it?"
Well, Lucy would just get mad that he didn't bring her home for share time, but whatever. "Yeah, it'll be out next month, actually," Mere said to him. "If you don't pick it up I'll kick your ass."
"Please. Like I wont be the first one there when FYE opens that morning. Bragging to everyone that I know the lead guitarist." Sweetly enough? He probably WOULD, too.
[21:33] lena7623: "Knew and once banged, I might add," she retorted. "Of course, half of the crowd there may be able to say that, so that may not be something totally special." She laughed.
"Sadly, you're not entirely wrong there either." He chuckled with a roll of his eyes there. "So I hear Skylar had her baby... glad she's safe..." He said more to sound polite than actually meaning it. "What say you? Another... two? Three weeks? Before she's pregnant again?"
"Well, I AM glad that she's safe, if for no other reason than because I'd REALLY rather not replace a lead singer, because, unless you're in AC/DC, it just doesn't work out for you," Mere pointed out to him. "And I give it a month. TOPS. Of course, if she goes by ESTABLISHED time line, she won't be pregnant for a few years. Of course, we know how that went."
"So sue me. I still don't care for her OR Ben." Ok, so Ash was trying to change. In a lot of ways. But we allllll pretty much know that with the exception of Neely, his hatred of the Bale family ran pretty deep.
"And yet eventually I will probably date all of them," Mere joked. She was probably right, after all. "Isn't one of your kids dating a Bale?"
"I guess... I mean, is she really mine? Or just some future me's kid? I mean, I don't really see myself having sex with Neely here, ya know." He started chuckling then, his next words something he'd NEVER say to ANYONE but Meredith. "Fucking amazing as it would likely be..."
"Oh, it would totally be hot, but I heard Lucy's reaction, so I doubt that's going to happen," Mere said to him. "Courtney is a kid you had with Lucy, though, and you and I both know that you guys have enough sex that reproduction is going to happen at SOME point unless you actively try to not do so." Well, she had a point. "So, the adorableness that is Courtney will probably happen." She shook her head. "I must have had a stick shoved up my ass or something to not at least TRY and hit that."
Sadly, Ash knew Mere well enough by now to not even be shocked by that statement. "Well.. if she crushes on you as bad as I've heard, you might still have a chance there, champ." He kind of paled there, as she had a good point. They... they really WEREN'T taking many precautions, huh.
"Well, she SEEMS to be in love enough with the pink haired kid that I'll play nice," Mere said. "Plus, I wouldn't want Slayer Catherine staking me and then claiming that she didn't know I was human again because no one told her in Russian." Which Catherine would totally do if someone hurt her baby. We all know it.
"Catherine's occasionally very frightening." He admitted, and, when ASH said someone could be frightening? Yeah.
"That girl is frightening, but I think she's supposed to be, because that's, you know, her job or something," Mere said to him.
"Very true." Ash couldn't help but nod. "Mere?" He asked then, voice going more... vulnerable, as yes... as was common with them, a total subject change was about to occur.
She caught the change in his tone. "Yeah?" she asked, her expression changing to one of concern.
"I'm... scared. I've never been so powerless. So... normal. I hate it. I miss my powers." He hadn't actually admitted it in so many words to ANYONE.
She took a deep breath before answering. "I know how you feel," she admitted. "A part of me loved being human again. Hell, I pulled off something that no one else had. I *hate* feeling so helpless again. I can't protect myself anymore. I have to depend on someone else to do it again." They actually were kind of in the same deal, huh?
"I didn't care about protecting myself... but now I feel like I can't even protect you, Lucy, and Patience. The three people I count on to survive." He sighed, knowing that the three of them, along with Neely now, were truly what kept him going.
"Well, Patience can take pretty good care of herself, at least physically," Mere told him. "She may need some uh...counseling, though." She shook her head. "Anyway, you just drained yourself again magically. It'll come back eventually."
"I hope so. I feel so lost without it. Impotent, almost." He hoped Mere had enough self-control to NOT joke about his words, but... it was how he felt.
She reached over and squeezed his hand, actually NOT making a joke about it, strangely enough. "I believe that it will come back."
"You'll really ALWAYS be there for me, won't you." He said, smiling sadly as he squeezed her hand.
"Well duh," she said with a slight grin. "You know I'll always love you, no matter what." To the occasional annoyance of their significant others.
