A Relationship Again?
Who: Mere and Ben
Where: Ben's apartment above Avarice
When: Friday Evening
Ben and his siblings had a lot of money, that was no secret. But between the money Avarice had been bringing in and the money Ben had been making on the side with the SFA, he'd been rolling in even more money than HE ever thought he'd have. The SFA had become a huge hit with pretty much anyone who knew about the demonic underground, and it had become Ben's own personal cash-cow. So, he'd put even more money into his home, which was actually the top two floors of the four-floor building that housed Avarice. It looked like a ritzy hotel, to be honest... all shiny floors, walls decorated with expensive paintings, and his own personal housekeeping. Ben had given Bretton the run of the club tonight, because he'd done something he'd never done before: he'd given out a personal invitation to visit his home. His bonding with Meredith, something that had been completely unexpected yet wholly amazing for him, as the two usually snarky, perverted, and morally corrupt friends had somehow found themselves bonding on an emotional, heartfelt level neither had truthfully thought themselves capable of. So he'd given Mere an invitation to spend the evening with him in the more private, intimate setting of his home, rather than the seedy, impersonal environment of the club that he treated most of his dates to. Sitting in a large recliner in the game room, Ben wore about the comfiest bathrobe one could imagine, watching a video of his most recent card of matches on a big-screen TV, studying his fighters.
Mere made her way up to the next floor of the club that she had only dimly been aware of before. She had never quite thought about where Ben lived, but now she was quite curious. The bonding from the night before was...something that she wasn't aware that she was still capable of. Of course, she had done it, so there it was. And it was with Ben, whom she hadn't been aware of having real feelings until last night beyond happy, pissed, and horny. Still, she kind of liked it. A depth that she hadn't quite reached in her vampireness yet. She knocked on his door when she reached it.
A tall, albino-looking woman answered, beautiful in a creepy kind of way. Her skin and hair were both the shade of white that clothing looks when accidentally bleached out too much, and her eyes were dark, almost blood red. Without a single word, she motioned for Mere to enter, and spun dutifully, leading her to the room where Ben sat. "...your company is here, Sir." She announced, before scurrying away gracefully. Ben looked up from the TV and smiled to Meredith. "Welcome to my humble abode."
Mere only gave the woman a quick once over. In her life, not much really surprised her anymore. It was a mild curiosity more than anything else. Mere smiled at Ben when he spoke to her. "Nice place you've got here." Quite the understatement, but still. "What are you watching?"
"Just watching a few of my fighters... trying to figure out who I could match up against who to draw in better crowds." He glided over to her, giving her a sweet peck on each cheek. "And how are you tonight?"
Mere glanced at the TV. Violence wasn't her thing, really. Strange, being a vampire and all, but whatever. "I'm sure you'll figure it out," she told him. She smiled at him. "I'm doing just fine. How are you?"
"Confused.... and a little weirded out, really." He was a lot of things... but he wasn't a liar. "It's in a good way, though."
Mere tilted her head at him for a moment, pondering his words. "I understand. It's the same for me, honestly." She kept smiling at him, though, so it seemed that she felt that it was good, too.
"I don't believe in mincing words when I have something on my mind, so forgive my bluntness here..." He walked over again, placing a palm on her cheek. "I don't understand what happened between us the other night... nor do I care if I ever do. What I do know however... is that somehow, against all logic that states otherwise... I think there's something natural between us, something we'd be fools to deny."
She arched an eyebrow at him. She liked his willingness to be blunt. Made head games go out the window. She had Ash for head games, at any rate. Now those she got a kick out of. "Trying to understand it kind of takes away from it," she merely pointed out to him. "Not everything can be understood." She sat down on a sofa. "Of course there is something between us. There always has. Now we just lack the barriers that were always there before."
"Even if they were still there..." He laughed, looking at her. "Barriers were meant to be broken."
"Now, that's my philosophy, but I'm not always sure if those 'barriers' always agree with me," Mere pointed out with a laugh of her own.
"Still... you and me? Together? Imagine that... Destroyers of Innocence." He grinned, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
Mere leaned against him a little. "I kind of like that title myself," she said. "No one's virginity would be safe from the two of us."
"Of course, this means you'll have to find ways of putting up with my... eclectic family." He said, smirking as he shook his head. "I believe we put the 'fun' in 'dysfunctional'."
"Well, I've known Bretton for a while, and, and Baily's cool as long as you're not human, although I think she's warming up to others a little." She had even seen her make nice with Pat recently. "You know my family all too well. We're not exactly normal, either."
"Well, aside from your father rivaling me in the tail-getting department, your family isn't too bad." Ben laughed again and stood, walking to his personal bar to get a drink. "Can I get you anything?"
"Have you met my ex-hippie grandparents and my lawyer uncle?" Probably not, since Uncle Ryan avoided them all like the plague or something. "Their still a few steps away from normal." She looked over at the bar. "A Jack and Coke wouldn't suck."
"You got it." He mixed them both the same drink, bringing the two glasses with him to the sofa. "Here you go... so, if you don't mind me asking... I know why *I'm* being stupid enough to give dating another shot already... but what's your reason?"
Mere took a sip of her drink, trying to think of an answer. "Well, to be honest, I'm not sure. For one, you *are* the closest person to me with a penis," she pointed out. "If I'm going to date, might as well be someone like me, right?"
"A valid point, indeed." He replied, taking a slow sip of his drink. "Plus... I think we have a connection. One that neither of us completely understands."
"And I'm not exactly one to analyze," she said. "We definitely have a connection, though. Been knowing that for a while. I don't knock you for your 'extracurricular' exploits, either with work or with Swedish twins."
Ben muttered under his breath, "God dammit, Baily..." then he looked back at Mere. "They weren't Swedish. They were America. Someone needs to inform my cousin that contrary to what TV seems to tell you, blonde and busty does not make one Swedish."
Mere laughed. "Ha! So they were twins! Think they'd be up for another girl in on the action?" She took another sip of her drink.
Ben just sat there for a moment, his eyes going wide as he just spoke in quite awe. "You... are one hell of a woman, Meredith."
Mere shook her head, but she was still smiling. "Only you would look in awe at a woman who wanted to be in a foursome with a set of twins," she said. "But that's why you're awesome."
