Hope Makes a New Friend
Who: Hope and Mouse
Where: Chloe's Sugar Shack
When: July 15, Afternoon
So, Hope was now in a slight bit of limbo as a Watcher. She wasn't too worried, if only because a part of her wanted to be left alone and work on her art, and also because she knew that many Slayers were still running around. She probably wouldn't be without a Slayer for long. Selinda was going to England to work with a particular Watcher who was more used to her problems. Today was a new day, though, which meant that Hope was going into Chloe's Sugar Shack to get something to perk her up.
As Hope sat down, Mouse skittered over to her (Good lord, did the girl ever LEAVE this place? Really... she was there CONSTANTLY), shy little smile in place as her meek, quiet voice squeaked out, showing how she got her nickname. "C-Can I help you today?"
Hope looked up at the girl and smiled. She was here all the time, she she recognized her. "Sure, can I just get a cup of black coffee today?" she asked her.
"N-No problem..." She said after, honestly, almost forgetting how to speak for a second. Ok, so sue her. Hope was TOTALLY the type of girl Mouse generally went no-speaky over. Cutely shuffling over to the counter in the little 50s-inspired miniskirt ensemble the Shack waitresses wore, she poured the watcher the coffee she asked for, and brought it over to the table, setting it down in front of her. "Here you go, ma'am." Oh my god, how cute. She called everyone 'sir' and 'ma'am', even when they weren't much older than she. "I'm gonna go on my break now, so... if you're done before I come back, you can just pay up at the counter, ok?" She said with a bright little smile before walking over to a nearby, empty table, sitting down by herself and just... resting her head in her hands, watching some of the couples, and the groups of friends, and giving a heartbreaking, longing smile.
"Oh dear, please don't call me ma'am," Hope said with a giggle as she got her cup of coffee. When the girl went off and sat at a table by herself, Hope actually got up and sat down at the table with Mouse. "Do you mind if I join you?" she asked. Mouse had looked so lonely that she just had to.
Poor Hope... she had NO idea, huh. Mouse just stared at her dumbly for a minute before nodding vigorously, giving a bashful smile. "S-Sure! I'm.. I'm not really very exciting or anything though..."
"Because I'm terribly exciting, myself," Hope said with a slight laugh and rolled her eyes. "Don't worry about it, hon. I'm dying for some company." It was true. Hope kind of had the habit of throwing herself into either art or work, and so didn't have many friends.
"Oh... um... wh-what's your name?" Mouse asked sweetly, her pathetic attempt at flirting. Oh NO. She'd taken this the entire wrong way, and thought Hope was being flirty.
"I'm Hope Davenport," Hope said to her with a smile. "I'm in here all the time, but I hate to say this. I actually don't know you're real name. I've only heard people call you 'Mouse.'" Hope HATED admitting that, but she'd like to know the girl's real name.
"M-My real name is Kaitlin. But..." she pointed to her nametag, which actually said 'Mouse', "Chloe called me Mouse when she first met me b-because I squeak a lot when I talk and I'm so... so shy... and it sort of stuck."
"Do you like the nickname, though?" Hope asked. She didn't want to call the girl a name that she didn't like, you know? "I mean, I don't want to call you something that you dislike or anything like that."
"Oh! no!" The redhead squeaked (of course) and blushed a little. "Nobody calls me that w-with any kind of teasing... I don't mind it..."
Well, she definitely heard where the namesake came from right there. "OK. Just wanted to make sure," Hope said with a grin. Damn, if only she was gay, huh? These two would be adorable.
"Thank you for asking though..." She said with a sheepish little grin, clasping her hands sweetly, as, well... she was feeling suddenly nervous and a little stammery. Gee. Wonder why?
"You're welcome," Hope said back to her. "So, Mouse, when you're not here handing out coffee, what do you do with your spare time?" Had anyone even ever asked her before?
"I... don't really have much of that." She said, a little embarrassed. "My family really... really needs money. So I put in as many hours here as Chloe will l-let me." Also? Since Marlowe and she had broken things off... being here didn't give her time to dwell on it.
"Wow, that's actually kind of impressive, that you're willing to give up so much of your time to help your family," Hope said to her. "Kudos to you. Most people wouldn't do that."
"My mom is sick... and my sister is too young to work. So it kinda falls on me." She said, nervously fiddling with the straw in her drink.
Hope nodded. "Then they are very lucky to have you," she told her. "You're still a great girl for doing it."
Oh geez. With any luck Hope had SOME common sense, because Mouse was blushing profusely now, clearly getting the wrong idea behind this. She was thinking (praying?) that maybe this girl was flirting with her... "Th-thank you... it h-helps to hear things like that sometime..."
Damn, and Hope was just a genuinely nice person who just happened to be oblivious because she didn't realize that a girl would find her attractive. "I bet it does," Hope said with a smile.
"Are... um... are you... h-here alone?" She asked, feeling ridiculous but honestly doing her best to find out if Hope was single. And,.. you know... interested.
"Yeah, I actually came here straight from UCLA," Hope admitted. She also didn't have too many friends because she was kind of a workaholic, both in her art and now in her Watcher stuff.
"I don't have many friends, really. I don't have time, I guess." And now for the feeler. Let this one get out, squirm into the girl's head... "And my girlfriend and I broke up recently, so... yeah. I've been sort of alone."
"I don't have much in the way of friends, either," Hope admitted. "Or much of anyone to date. I'm kind of a workaholic myself. I'm either painting or doing stuff for school." Did this girl know what went on in the basement here?
Well... Mouse knew SOME about the supernatural, just not all. "I could... I mean, I would, you know... hang out with you sometime... if you want." Aw, there was that blush again. "I don't mean to just assume you'd want to, I mean..." it occurred to her why the girl looked familiar then. "I know you have... important work to do." She wasn't sure exactly WHAT the watcher and slayers did, but she knew the general gist of what they were. "And I'm not really... too exciting."
"I think you're perfectly sweet, Mouse," Hope said to her. "Yeah, I'm busy a lot, but I can make time for a new friend, you know?" She would be delighted to have a new friend, actually.
Perfectly sweet? Oh, Mouse thought, if there's a God in heaven PLEASE let this girl be flirting. The quiet waitress found herself fidgeting again, this time playing with her straw. "So... do you... I mean, do you 'train' one of the girls too?"
"Well, I used to," Hope said to her. "She had some problems, though. Things that I wasn't equip to deal with. She just recently went to England in order to have the help that she deserves. I suppose I'll be assigned another girl, though."
"I'm sure you will... " Mouse said with another tiny squeak. "You're too kind, and seem way too smart not to..." Oh geez. This? Was the girl trying her best to be complimentary to someone she barely knew. In terms of charisma and flirting skills? She was definitely NOT a Bale.
Hope smiled at her. "You're just being sweet," she said to Mouse. "I try, though. I'd like to be assigned another girl, though. I didn't want to do it at first, but now I'm really starting to like the work."
"Sweet? No... not me..." She said with a blush, honestly just thinking of herself as a rambly, shy goofball. She blushed even harder when she spotted Chloe, bent over the counter, chin resting on her hand, a HUGE, goofy grin on her face as she watched the two talking. Evidently the blonde found Mouse getting her groove on to be the cutest thing ever from the smile there.
"Yes, of course you," Hope pointed out. "You are sweet, and don't let anyone tell you any different, OK?" She had a point, after all. Mouse probably was one of the nicest people that she had ever met.
"Th-thank you..." She stammered, nibbling on her own lip as she FINALLY got the guts to wait until Hope briefly looked away and mouth the words "STOP IT!" to Chloe, before going back to playing with the straw. "You're... you're really sweet too..."
"Aw, thank you," Hope said to her with a grin. She really liked this girl. She would definitely have to talk and hang out with her more often.
