Reunited
Who: Bella & Damon
Where: Damon’s apartment
When: Tuesday, June 5th, very early morning
After dropping off Brandie with Ben, the next thing she wanted to do was go and see Damon. It had killed her to leave him, or even a version of him behind to die like she had. Still, he wouldn't have come with her no matter how much she had insisted that he do so. Also, the world might have imploded. She all but ran over to his place and knocked on the door, ready to hug him until she squeezed him half to death, if that was possible. Since he didn't have to breath, she probably couldn't.
Damon was relaxing in the leather chair that sat in front of the bookcase he had in his apartment reading a worn copy of Poe's poetry; The very same copy he'd quoted to Bella that very first night she'd spent the night all those months ago. He'd wrapped up several cases that evening and needed an hour to himself before turning in for the day. But it looked like the night had other plans for him when a knock sounded on his door.
Marking his place, Damon stood and moved to open the door. What he discovered upon opening shocked him to the core. After months of worrying, of not sleeping for days on end...there she was standing in his doorway. That ache in his heart that had so often tormented him returned and the vampire could do nothing but stare at Bella.
She however was not shocked into silence and inactivity. Instead, she practically jumped him, hugging him tightly to her. This was Damon. Her Damon, and she never wanted to let him go again. "I'm so, so sorry," she said, pressing herself against his chest.
The vampire's arms tightened around Bella's fit frame and, finally, he spoke into her hair, "...Don't ever scare me like that again." Damon closed his eyes, breathing in her scent while he was telling himself over and over again that she was real that she wasn't a figment of his imagination.
“Because I totally did that on purpose," Bella said sarcastically, but she didn't pull away just the same. "I have no idea how I got there. I just kind of poofed into a different, but still apparently my, bed. I actually had to be kind of sneaky in order to get back."
"Shhh," Damon smiled, joking back at the Slayer and finally bent to press a soft kiss against Bella's lips.
She pressed her lips back against his. "I missed you," she said to him. She knew that it was the same Damon, but this was her Damon, and yes, that did make a difference to her.
The vampire smiled against her lips and then shook his head, "You have no idea how much I missed you." Damon chuckled and then pulled her into the apartment, closing the door behind them.
She was already thinking of what she would do to Luke when she saw him again as well. Maybe set him on fire and then dance on his ashes. Sounded like a good idea, anyway. "I can only imagine," she said to him finally. "It sounds ridiculous to ask, but how have you been doing?"
They still lingered by the doorway, the vampire’s fingers curling like they always did in Bella’s hair. Damon admitted, “It was pretty bad...at first.” The vampire paused, gulping at the memories of those first few months. “I couldn’t sleep, not knowing where you were. If you still here, or if you’d gone back to your future...” Damon’s thumb stroked Bella’s cheek and he leaned in to press his forehead against hers, shaking his head slightly, “But that’s in the past. You’re here...now. That’s all that matters.”
“Yeah, that’s all that matters,” Bella agreed. She just wanted to pick up her life right where she had left it, after all. “I was in the future. It was...weird, honestly. It was another life that I didn’t know what was going on in. Seems that will be the story of my life.” Something that she was finally starting to accept. “What has been going on here? You know...other than me disappearing on everyone.”
The vampire moved to the white leather couch, flopping down on it and kicking off his boots. Damon regaled Bella with the happenings since the Silly Season regarding her friends, family, the vampire’s cases and whatnot. He told Bella of Lucian’s strange disappearance and Lena’s gradual change of personality.
Bella just kind of gaped at him after she sat down and he told her everything. “Wow, Luke disappeared and everything?” she asked. “That’s kind of a good thing. He kind of caused something in, well, I guess a version of the future that seemed to screw up everyone’s lives quite badly.” And ended hers, as well. “I know he was your friend, but I can’t help but be glad that he’s not around.” It was the truth, after all.
And that was what he loved about Bella. The Slayer never hid from the truth when most humans were mired in hiding themselves from each other. At her words of Damon’s friendship with Lucian, he snorted and chuckled, “Bella... “friendship” was a very loose term to describe our relationship,” the vampire replied and continued, “Whatever it was, it doesn’t matter. He’s gone and he’s not around to bother us anymore.”
One reason that she may not hide the truth is because she simply didn’t get the social graces to do so, because her slate was wiped kind of clean with that memory wipe. “Well, whatever it was, we’re better off he’s gone. He turned me into a vampire in a couple of years, and I went crazy and tried to kill my younger self. Obviously, it didn’t work out and my own mom had to kill me. Not pleasant at all.”
Damon didn’t know what to say that. The vampire leaned in to Bella, pressing a kiss to the Slayer’s hair and pressed his forehead there. He may not have been able to speak out of shock, but it would have been cold of him not to respond at all. Damon would not be surprised if he didn’t take the news well in the future, but now that Lucian had disappeared...it was quite possible that future of Bella’s wouldn’t take place and Damon wouldn’t lose her again.
Lifting his head, Damon ran his fingers through Bella’s hair again several more times before finally saying, “I was going to head to bed soon when you knocked.” The vampire paused, his gaze drinking in the Slayer’s features, memorizing them all over again, “...Will you stay?”
After he kissed her on the forehead, she rested her head against his shoulder. Maybe it was traveling through a time vortex, or maybe it was just from the stress of the last couple of weeks, but she felt like she hadn’t slept in years. Of course, who knew how much sleep she’d get in the bed with Damon right away. She looked up at him and smiled. “Of course I’ll stay,” she said to him. It was partially why she had come over. To see him, and to stay with him. She wasn’t even sure if she still had a room at Chloe’s anyway. Not that her friend would turn her away, more than she may have filled her rooms with other people, possibly even other future kids. Bella just didn’t know that yet. “Also, waking up to waffles later would be great.” Some things were never forgotten about, and she did remember that he made a damn good waffle.
