At the quiet end of the bar of Joe's Diner, Jacob Teague was enjoying his lunch of the meatloaf special and a glass of water when he cell phone chirped at him. Setting down his fork, the Necromancer lifted the phone off the counter to check who was calling. The name on the display curved the corner of Jake's lips into a smile, adding to his already good mood. Hitting a button the phone, the man lifted the contraption to his ear.
"Evelyn," He said forking another mouthful of meatloaf into his mouth.
"Jacob." The two of them chuckled at their long-standing joke until Evelyn Banks asked, "How did it go?"
The Necromancer sighed with exaggeration and replied, "Oh, you know how these interviews go..."
"Don't be a ninny, Jacob, you know I don't think isn't becoming of you."
Jacob laughed, "You know me too well."
"Well, I think I would considering I've known you since you were 15-years-old."
"Yeah..." This was, indeed, true. At 15, Evelyn Banks had been Jacob's savior when he'd been in own little Hell on Earth. Since the age of 7, no one had believed him (not even his parents) when he said he could still see and talk to Grandma Meave. Soon after that declaration, Jake started receiving "counseling" and several years later admitted to a Psych Ward when he'd freaked out when the family Beagle had been brought back to life a year after it died. Yeah, you try waking up to a decomposing dog licking your face and not lose your marbles a little. So when Evelyn appeared when Jacob was 15, she'd been a Godsend; The only one that believed him because she was just like he was, someone would see the dead, communicate with them, raise them. Jacob was quite sure that the day she'd admitted that to him, he'd fallen for her hook, line, and sinker. She helped Jake control his abilities and by the time he was 18 and legally an adult, he had a clean bill of mental health. Later, not long after Jacob's 21st birthday that the two of them had started dating, a dream come true for the young man. The relationship only lasted a year, but their bond in friendship proved to be stronger than their more intimate relationship because even after several years, they called each other all the time. Like now.
"What about living arrangements?" The female Necromancer asked Jacob.
Jacob took another bite of meatloaf before answering, washing it down with water, "I'm meeting a Super tonight at eight."
Evelyn's tone clearly thought she found the meeting time strange, "Tonight? That's rather...odd."
The blond man shrugged even though the older woman wouldn't be able to see it, "The guy said it was at the building owner's insistence."
"Hm..." Was all Evie said for a moment and then asked, "Do you need any help with the apartment?"
Again, Jacob physically shook his head despite Evelyn's lack of sight on him, "No, I've got the trust fund," the blond Necromancer replied with a hint of reluctance to his voice. Years ago, his parents had set up a trust fund for Jacob, which of course had been a very practical of them. There was no telling whether or not their son would continue to be institutionalized and because of this practicality, Jacob was pretty much set for life sitting on a nice pile of money. A pile of money he reluctantly used and only for necessary things like paying bills. He only used the fund when he had to because since the age of 10, he'd seen his parents twice; Once when he was 18 to witness his release and the second time to deal with the legality of the trust fund. The one time he'd used money from the fund on an extravagance was on his dark gray Mini Cooper. He loved that vehicle like a child.
"Let me know if you need anything, okay, Jacob?" A smile curved Jacob's lips again at the request.
"Yeah, okay." He paused and then added, "...Evie?"
Softly, the woman replied, "Yes, I know, Jacob."
"...Talk to you later." The two Necromancer's hung up and Jacob continued on with his lunch.
