Just Who's Kid Are You Again?
Who: Iris and Abbi
Where: Avarice
When: Monday Night, 6/21
Tonight Jeremy was busy with Watcher type stuff, so, instead of sitting at home, reading and trying NOT to accidentally kill all of the dishes in the kitchen with her mind like last week (because she's still a massive spaz), Iris decided that she would get out of the house and go to Avarice for a drink or two, and knowing that she would call a cab home afterward because she was SMART now. No chances were to be had, OK?
Why the hell did Abbi hang out here? Really. She wasn't really a huge fan of metal, despite her father being in a HUGE metal band. Nor was she a fan of the meat markets that most clubs tended to be. Yet? Here she was. Looking completely out of place in designer jeans and a pretty pink button down blouse that was juuuust snug enough to show off her curves without looking trampy. She sat quietly at the bar, wincing at the rather... noisy cacophony that blared through the speakers, and sipping at a Coke.
Iris walked into the club and, because it was kind of crowded, ended up taking a seat next to Abbi and ordered herself a Cosmopolitan, shooting Abbi a quick smile before sitting. In her jeans and white silk blouse, she didn't look like she fit in here, either, but she did happen to love metal.
Oh my god... Abbi just BLINKED when she noticed who was sitting next to her. She didn't really KNOW Iris in her time, but had seen plenty of pictures of her parents with the girl. She was practically her dad's best friend, and even Patience adored her, which REALLY said something. She had to say SOMETHING here... just take a chance at seeing if she was as cool as both of her parents always said. "Hi..." the perky blonde said with a smile. "You look like you fit in as well as I do here..."
Iris's smile grew wider. While the girl looked vaguely familiar (she happened to look like a decent mix of Pat and Patience, but she didn't realize that), but she didn't know her. "Well, I like metal, but I'm not going to dress like something that just crawled out of the eighties to enjoy it," she said with a slight laugh.
"Ugh. Some of it isn't bad. My dad sings in a metal band, but I just can't get into it." She blushed then, catching herself. Shit. "Oh well. Anyway. I'm Abigail, but my friends call me Abbi. Nice to meet you."
"Hey, to each their own," Iris said simply. "I'm Iris," she said, shaking the girl's hand. "My ex-husband plays in a band, too. Ever hear of Broken Sunrise? Yeah, that one got away." She laughed. "It was for the best, though."
Ex-husband? Rrrrrrreally. Well. THERE was a detail neither of her parents had ever told her. "I've... I've heard of them." She said with a blush. DUH. Of course she had. They were famous. Dingbat.
Well, if she wasn't into metal, then she may not have. So, didn't surprise Iris for her to say that. "We weren't exactly married for long. We made way better friends than husband and wife." Plus he slept with the newly christened Skylar Bale. Can't have that. If Jeremy slept with her, or anyone else, really, but especially her, she might actually kill him and go evil. It would be hilarious. Anyways..."They're a great band, though."
No wonder the McConnells were so fond of her though... Iris was positively charming. She had a way of making you feel like old friends almost immediately. "Excuse me, dear..." She said as CJ walked by, "May I please have another soda? Thank you SO much..." Jesus. Yeah. THIS was Patience McConnell's daughter. "Sorry about that, Iris. Anyway... yeah. Two of my friends are actually in a new metal band around here, so... I'm probably gonna end up hearing more of it than I planned anyway."
That actually made Iris laugh a little. "You sound positively thrilled," she said, her Texan accent, as always, bleeding through. Did she hold onto it because it made her think of home? Maybe. "Sometimes you've got to look past the music itself and listen to the lyrics. You'll find the occasional gem that way."
"Well... keep an eye out for Gravedancer. Their singer is a friend of mine. TOTALLY gorgeous. Sigh." Yeah, she had it bad for Brayden. Always did, really. Which THRILLED her mother, really. "Name's Brayden Bale. His family owns this place, actually. The drummer is one of my friends, too. Karissa V... Karissa Starr." She almost forgot the girl had changed her name. This was gonna be tougher than she thought.
"Brayden Bale?" OK, so Ben had admitted that he was suddenly up to his eyeballs in future children of his (apparently him and Skylar had bred like bunnies in the future). So, this conversation just got interesting. "Those Bales certainly get around, don't they?"
"You know him? He's a jerk, but GOD is he gorgeous. He's never seen me as anything other than a friend though, sadly." She rolled her eyes with a laugh as she said it, knowing that especially now that he had Meredith, she REALLY had no chance.
"I know Ben, which means I basically know him," Iris said, which was kind of her way of saying 'yes, I know about future!kids'. "Sounds about like, oh, half of the Bales you described right there.
She paled a little there, as she realized that if she knew about Brayden... and she just admitted they've known each other a long time... ut-oh. "Heh. Um... yeah. So great club here, huh?"
Iris laughed. She had no clue who's kid this probably was, but it was amusing seeing her squirm a little. "Yeah, it's a great club that Ben put together here," she said.
If she thought she was out of the woods then? Dammit. Patience happened to walk past to hand a drink to someone, and juuuust for a second, they were right next to each other. And even if Iris had suffered a severe concussion, it didn't take much to put two and two together...
Iris arched an eyebrow when she saw the two of them together for a second. "So...your dad plays for a metal band, huh?" she asked with a slight smirk. Oh yeah, she had figured out who's kid this was.
Let's keep in mind here. Abbi? Almost NEVER swore. So her reaction here? Priceless. "Heh. Yeah. He... um... motherFUCKER."
Iris had that feeling, which is why she giggled when she said it. "Don't worry. You're secret is safe with me," she said to Abbi simply.
So. This girl. This bubbly, sweet, modestly-dressed, uber-polite thing. Was the daughter of PATIENCE. Swirl that one around a little. "Thank you SO much. I still get a little nervous about all of this. The others are all so... ok with being here, but I'm still a little freaked out about it."
"If I was stuck in a different time, I'd be a little freaked out, too," Iris admitted, taking a sip of her drink. "Can I ask something, though? How did you come from Patience. I adore her...but you're so...polite."
"I love her, but.... really? She sort of embarrasses me a bit. I just don't get how a girl can be so... crude. Her and my Aunt Gwen... jeez. They got drunk and french kissed at my sixteenth birthday party." She practically face palmed there, which was hilarious. "I just think a girl should be a little more... subdued."
That actually made Iris laugh. "Why does that not shock me?" she asked. Really, Patience and Gwen should not be left to their own devices for very long. Of course, Iris had her own 'Team Morrison' incident as well, but she still stood by that. "Your dad really loves her, though, so apparently she's doing something right."
"Yeah... and luckily? I take a LITTLE more after my dad, in terms of temperament and tact." Abbi stifled a giggle there, and rolled her eyes. "Although I think even HE was a little disappointed that I grew up so... prim and proper. I think they were hoping for a little Metal Grrl, and instead they got a cheerleading diva."
Strangely enough, except for their musical tastes, it seemed that Abbi was a fair bit like Iris, which just made her curious as to who she was around growing up. Iris probably DID do a fair about of babysitting, though. "You say that like it's a bad thing," Iris said. "I was a cheerleader in high school, too. It's a good character builder."
"And I think my mother is actually... kinda MORTIFIED by the fact that I'm a virgin. Which speaks winders for HER character." Smirking, though, as she said it, Abbi really resembled her mother when making that face.
That just made Iris laugh harder. Really, that would mortify Patience sadly enough. "That is nothing to be ashamed of," Iris pointed out to her. "Not everyone can grow up with a friend like Gwen, you know."
"I wish I would have known you in my time. Although really... maybe that makes it easier for me to treat you like a normal person HERE. Because I *don't* already have preconceived opinions of you eighteen years older..." Let's see: virginal. Perky. Full of deep thoughts. This was REALLY Patience McConnell's daughter? REALLY?
Iris didn't really think of why the two may have not known each other well. Maybe she had moved off or something. Who knew? "That does kind of help," Iris agreed. "Besides, we're actually not that far apart in years, either."
"That's really cool. Dad always talked about how much alike we were... too bad you lived so far away." Because really... growing up? She could have used someone more like herself.
"I can't believe I actually would have moved." Maybe she moved to England with Jeremy or something. Really, no telling. "Well, I'm here now if you need someone to talk to that's a little more normal."
"You have no IDEA." Abbi admitted with a relieved laugh. "Kim's all GRRRR with her punk hair and her wildness, Killer's just WEIRD, Brayden's a pig, Karissa is, well... exactly like the Van Warren girls YOU would know... I don't really have ANYONE I can relate to."
"Well, like I said, you need anyone to talk to, just come to me," Iris said with a smile. Wow, this bunch of kids sounded like a handful.
