What the Hell Have I Gotten Myself Into
Who: Jack and Pat
When: Monday Afternoon, 6/14
Where: Pat and Patience's Place
Jack had called Pat earlier to see if he could come over and hang for a while. He didn't want to just show up and walk in on anything freaky Pat and his wife were up to. Jack was pretty sure that Pat was thinking they'd hang, shoot the shit, maybe work on some music. However, he actually wanted to talk about something else to him. He knocked on Pat's door.
Pat knew Jack well enough by now that when HE was doing the calling? Generally he needed to vent. So, wisely sending Patience out to cause some trouble with Gwen, he threw on a pair of jeans and an old, ratty Celtics tee (because his mun was FAR too excited about them right now), and opened the door with a grin. "Alright... get in here, J. What's goin' on?"
"Am I really that transparent?" Jack asked as he walked inside. "OK, maybe I am, and should probably work on that. Alright, something's going on," he admitted. "I'm actually hear to ask you for some woman advice."
"Wait. Hold on." Pat brushed a hand over his bald head, eyes blinking as if he HAD to have misheard his friend. "Jack Delany. Nightmare to mothers everywhere. Asking ME for woman advice."
"Well, I'm in a situation that I'm not familiar with," Jack admitted. "I was only ever in love with one woman in my life, LONG before you knew me, and I think it's happening again...just...not with her." He made a face. "I wouldn't call it love, but...it's definitely an attraction that goes past the general 'I want to fuck her brains out' way."
"Wait. Back up, man." Pat was honestly trying not to laugh there, and had to make sure his friend knew how it was. "First? I swear I'm not laughing at you. I'm just... not used to seeing you like this. Now... are we talking about Louise again? Last time we talked about this... you guys were gonna at least try to make something work..."
"Yeah...we were...or we are...I'm really not sure, since she occasionally avoids me or says that she should just go away." Which intrigued him to death, but drove him nuts just the same. "And that was before I met Natalie McGuinness."
"Natalie...." he blinked. "Get the FUCK outta here. You and McGuinness? For real? You truly ARE a legend, Jack. I bow to you." Girl was a certified rock star, probably the most famous person on the label outside of Haylee James. "And there's really something there?"
"Well, I'm taking her out to dinner, on a real date," Jack said to him. "If that ain't real and having something there, I don't know what is. I don't remember the last time I went on a date. That's not a figure of speech, either. I actually don't remember!"
"Well..." Pat thought about that, honestly TRYING his best not to laugh. "You talk. You laugh. You try to make her feel like you like her as a person, not just as something to stick your dick in."
"I think I've been doing that so far," Jack said. God, he was actually nervous. Who was this pod person and what had they done with Jack Delany? "She kept saying how surprised and delighted she was by how I was."
"Well, face it, man. Not many of us get to see the real you. The *real* you is a hell of a guy. S'why Patience and Chloe both like you so much." And why both women were able to put up with his excessive drinking and his occasional bad influence on Pat.... bachelor party anyone?
OK, Jack had played it much nicer for Pat's second marriage, OK? He *really* regretted that, especially since, once Iris had figured out just *why* Pat had any sort of pull toward Skylar she telekinetically flung a chair at him in a rage? "She actually said something about the drinking once. Maybe I should be a little kinder to my liver."
"Because we all CARE about you, dumb-ass!" Pat snickered with a roll of his eyes. "I was PLANNING on asking you to be our baby's godfather, so that should give you a reason to slow it down a bit..."
He nodded. Actually, it did give him an excuse/reason to try and slow it down a little. Plus, if Mere ever actually went insane and decided to have children, he wanted to be around for those, as well. "Really? You were?"
"Yeah. Jack, you're more than my bandmate. You're my best friend. Best I've ever had, really. We're more like brothers, actually. And I can't think of anyone I'd trust more with my child if something happened to me." He clapped Jack on the shoulder with a big smile. "Now. Let's figure out what's going on in your fucked-up love life."
Hearing that actually kind of warmed his heart a little, but in a manly way. "Why is my love life fucked up? Why can't it be normal?" Because he just couldn't make it that way was why. Because his ex-wife got turned into a vampire but he *might* be falling for someone else.
"Jack? Have you noticed MINE? I have a wife that was killed by a vampire and brought back to life, an ex-wife who can move shit with her BRAIN, and an ex-fiance' that is a VAMPIRE SLAYER. " Well. Pat might not be the font of wise advice, but... the man had a point.
He thought about that and shrugged. "Hmm...good point. At least yours is finally stable, even if you've been married or tried to be married more than any sane man should be."
"I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess." He smirked, sitting back with a laugh. "What can I say? I like the stability of a relationship. And I loved Iris and Skylar. The problem was... I had met my soulmate. And I just... couldn't get over her."
"Still not sure if I believe in the soulmate theory," Jack admitted. "But OK. You're still an idiot for not taking advantage of all of that prime female together, or at least trying to." OK, Jack had a one track mind, what do you want?
"Excuse me... I've had Patience and Gwen together, and LIVED with Skylar and Gwen. You should be worshipping me, pal." Pat responded with a playful laugh. "Seriously."
"Because you're the first of us to have a threesome," Jack said with a roll of his eyes. "You don't know HALF of the stuff that I've been up to."
"Ok, touche." Pat cackled, really. Because NOBODY was going to likely come near Jack when it came to conquests. "Seriously though... have you thought about the pros and cons to each woman?"
"Well, if you go just by that, Natalie has a big pro in her favor of not being a vampire," Jack pointed out. Sadly, it was true. As much as he loved Louise, she was still a vampire, which meant that she would never age, and would still be young and cold when he was old.
"Also... no offense... you don't have to worry about Natalie deciding to kill you and Meredith seemingly out of nowhere..." Pat pointed out, still being mildly creeped out by any vampires.
He groaned. "I know that," he muttered. "You know she admitted that, while Mere was still a vampire, she thought about turning me? And part of me wasn't all that surprised or bothered to hear it?"
"....and part of ME wants to slap the SHIT out of you for that. You know how rare it is to have a vamp that isn't batshit crazy? I ain't got many good friends, Jack. I'd hate to have to stake the best one I got." He grinned, but... part of him MEANT it. Ever since finding out how Patience had died way back when, and then the thing with Iris... Pat had a pretty big bias against vamps. It took everything in him to accept Meredith when SHE was one.
"I know it's fucked up!" Sadly, it was kind of why he wasn't sure if he really *should* be around Louise, if it made him think thoughts like that. "And she's so...cold. She barely has any emotions left in her, and that frightens the hell out of me, but I've still got some kind of pull toward her. I'm just not sure if it's just old emotions or something real. Plus, I really like Natalie as well, and she's normal."
"Also? If you don't mind me saying so? Louise is hot, but Natalie? DAMN. Seriously." They HAD to talk like normal guys at SOME point, right?
"Definitely hot," he admitted. So it was finally sinking in. "Guess I have to talk to Louise then, huh?" Fuck, he HATED this shit.
"Good luck with that." Pat raised a brow, before asking, seriously, "You want me to get you hooked up with some holy water or something beforehand? Just in case?"
He shook his head, but he might be wearing a cross necklace or something just in case. Because really, he did NOT want to be killed over this. He had been threatened with shot guns by many a father before, but the tiny woman known as Louise frightened him a hell of a lot more than any of those put together.
"One more thing, Jack..." Pat thought about how to word this, before continuing. "Maybe you should go out with Natalie once or twice before you throw away whatever you might have with Louise?"
"Yeah, as long as Louise doesn't grab us in a parking lot and try to kill us after a date," Jack said quickly. "Natalie already said she caught her following her home the other night. I still need to talk to her about THAT."
"So... look. I'm not good at this stuff, but... if you need anything, you know me and Patience are always here for you, ok? Seriously. Even if I'm not here, she'd gladly give you someone to talk to. Just..." He winced with a laugh. "Don't be surprised if shes a lot less sweet about it than I am."
Jack rolled his eyes. "I'm willing to bet she'd tell me to suck it up and be a man," he said with a chuckle. "Which is kind of what I need to do. I just...I'm not familiar with this stuff."
"Well... whatever we can do, we're here. Just.. you know... try not to get bitten. That would suck. No pun intended." Oh. Cute, Pat.
