Finding a Little Normalcy
Who: Jack and Natalie
Where: Chloe's Sugar Shack
When:. Monday afternoon, 6/14
Why yes, Jack did actually occasionally come out before five in the evening. Kind of shocking, right? However, when he did so, he needed copious amounts of caffeine to do so. Best place in tow to get it was obviously Chloe's Sugar Shack. Feeling a little too manly to get anything with chocolate sprinkles on it, he instead decided to get just some regular coffee and sugar the hell out of it before parking it at a table.
Funny how these things work out occasionally, hm? Natalie had been on her way back from a small shopping trip when she decided to stop in and try one of these super-sugared concoctions that Chloe had been RAVING about to her in e-mails. Of course, thoughts of caffinated goodness slipped from her mind when she walked in, and... how about that... spotted the guy who'd (against all her better attempts) been on her mind constantly as of late.
She took quick inventory of herself: she was a little dressed down today, in light blue jeans, black cowboy boots, a black tanktop, and her hair in long pigtails with an old-school Metallica baseball cap turned backwards. Still... she didn't look bad. Walking up to him from behind, she grinned and rocked back on her heels.
"Hm. Funny meeting YOU here..."
Speaking of running around in someone's thoughts, Natalie had been in more than a few of his as well, and they weren't even all dirty thoughts, which was nothing short of amazing. And, when he saw her, he couldn't help but notice just how good she looked, even dressed down. "Just getting my caffeine fix. Need coffee to get through any day that I have to see too much sunlight," he admitted.
"Coffee is pretty much a necessity in our lifestyles, I think." She acknowledged with a laugh, clasping her hands cutely behind her back, as she appeared... just a little fidgety. "Gotta admit though... of all places to see YOU? This would have been faaaaar down on my list."
"Well, my bandmate does own the place," Jack said with a slight grin on his face. "I think she'd smack me with a drum stick if I went anywhere else." Besides the coffee here actually was good.
"Mm. A valid point, my friend." She said with another little, girlish giggle. She seriously WAS the antithesis of what she seemed onstage. "Mind if I sit with you for a few? If you were looking for some alone-time, I totally understand."
"No, please go ahead and join me," he said, still smiling up at her. "So what beings you out on this fine bright as day." Yeah, Jack was wearing shades inside, by the way. Him and the sun were not good friends.
"Honestly? Was out doing some shopping, and just decided to finally see this place Chloe's always raving about." She shrugged, trying not to blush. "I *swear* it wasn't just to flirt with you. That was just a bonus."
"Chloe is always talking this place up," he said. And occasionally giving out free samples as well. "Well, I wouldn't mind if you had come here to just flirt with me," he teased.
"I'm thinking you might have an... overzealous fan or something." She said with a smirk. Uh-oh. You see where this is going, right? Right??? "Cute girl... looked a liiiiittle young, maybe 19 or 20? Built really nice? After I walked away from you at the bar that night, she followed me around giving me the stink-eye for like, 20 minutes before I finally went to get security. She left before they could find her though..."
Jack made a face. Well, this wasn't good. "That...was my ex-wife, who also happens to be a vampire," he said with a sigh. "I'm going to have to tell her that she can't follow around every friend I've got that's a woman." Or do worse, but he didn't *think* she'd do worse.
"Oh." Surely she had something more in her mind there, but what else could she say? "We REALLY don't live like normal people, do we."
"No, we really don't," Jack admitted with a sigh. "I had actually thought that she had just run away back when Mere was two, but it turns out that she was attacked by a vampire and couldn't bear the idea of us finding out what she had become. So, she ran." Fun stuff.
"I swear... I think sometimes I'll never get used to hearing ANY of this stuff. Really. I mean, before a year ago, having one of my bandmates in rehab was the worst thing I'd ever heard of." Yeah. Right now? Remy's troubles seemed almost minor.
"I'm really sorry about this. I have no idea why she'd follow you home like that." Maybe it was because Jack was, well, being himself, or the person that he had become in Louise's absence, anyway.
"Jack? I like you. Enough to actually want to like... go somewhere with you sometime. But I don't have time for drama. If we're gonna do this, you need to talk to her, because I can't have some bitchy vampire trailing me everywhere." Wow that came off sounding more harsh than she'd intended. She winced a little there in silent apology.
"No, I understand," Jack said, even after the silent wince. "You don't need drama, and I certainly don't want it. I'll explain to her that she can't do this." He couldn't understand why she had followed Natalie home like that.
"Looks like even the undead aren't immune to the legendary charms of Jack Delany, hm?" She gave him that bright smile, folding her arms over her breasts. "So, on a happier subject... did you think of anything you'd like to do with me?"
He chuckled. "No, I guess not," he said to her. "Actually, I think I'd like to take you to dinner," he admitted to her. When was the last time he had went on anything resembling a traditional date? Honestly, he wasn't sure, which was kind of sad.
"Now, it this a NICE dinner, oor one of those Taco Bell runs that inevitably end with a drunken gropefest in the back of a car?" She asked with a teasing tone, clearly having fun with his reputation.
He snorted. "Oh come on, I have NEVER taken a girl to Taco Bell. It was a Del Taco, thank you." Sadly, that wasn't a joke. They had been leaving a club and had gotten a craving, OK? "No, I mean a real dinner."
"Ok. Because seriously, Denny's? Doesn't count either. Neither does Bob Evans." What was it about Jack that made her get so... silly and girly? She ahd NO friggin' idea.
He laughed. "No, no Denny's or Bob Evans, either. I mean a real place where I have to wear nice clothing and everything," he said to her. "Now I just have to find nice clothing. I think I still own some."
"Please. You know damn WELL what you look like. All clothes look nice on you. Besides. This is ME." She pointed out, motioning over herself. "Do I look like the kind of girl who expects a suit and tie?"
"God I hope not, because I'm pretty sure I don't own a suit," Jack said with a grin. "And I meant dressing up to at least not get kicked OUT of a nice restaurant." Well, he had a point. Some of those places got picky about stuff like that.
"Well... look. Let's do this then. Go out. Get yourself something you think will look great. I'm gonna go back to my place and take a nap, because frankly? I'm EXHAUSTED." She rolled her eyes, realizing how long she'd been shopping now.
"Been doing a little too much shopping?" he asked playfully. He wrote his number down for her. "Just give me a call when you're rested and ready, OK?"
"Hah! Me? Seriously, Jack. If you call me later TODAY and ask me, I'll probably be ready. Seriously. I'm kinda of a goof like that." She admitted, blushing just a little.
"Well, I wouldn't object to it being today either," he pointed out to her. Well, he couldn't help it. For some reason, he really liked this woman.
"You really confuse me, Jack. In allll the best ways." She laughed, shaking her head in a bit of surprise. "I really wasn't expecting this to be what you were like."
He grinned. "I'm all full of surprises," he said with a chuckle. "What did you expect me to be like, anyway? A drooling ape?"
"Of course not." She snickered, shaking her head. "I've never even SEEN you drool." Hah! Note she didn't dispute the 'ape' part. "SO. This is where I go home to get all prettied up. YOU need to remember the part where you call me."
He laughed. "Don't worry, I will remember to call you," he said with a smirk. "How could I forget to call such a pretty lady?" Now he needed to go and ask Pat just what the hell he did on a date, because he didn't honestly know.
