The teen-aged blonde held up a knockout red dress to her slender frame and turned around to show her literal guardian angel, "What do you think?" Clarity Myles didn't really wait long for a reply before she turned back to the mirror and studied the dress pressed to her front. It had been months, months, since the blonde did anything relatively normal for a teenager such as herself except to go straight to school and come straight back. Finally, now that it was summer, Clarity put her foot down and insisted to Serena that they go shopping together like real sisters would do
Serena looked the dress over for a few seconds before saying, "I'm not so sure about it," she said to the teenager. It looked a bit too low cut for Serena to be comfortable seeing Clarity in it around teenage boys like she would want to wear it around.
Clarity heaved a sigh, letting the dress fall over her arm and turned to face the angel. A hand lifted to rest on her hip as the blonde retorted, "Okay, what would you suggest then?"
She looked around for a few minutes before picking out a blue dress that, while was a little more tame, had a much more classic look with a sweetheart neckline and a hemline that came just about her knees. "How about this one?" Serena suggested.
The teenager made a face, but the look she gave Serena didn't last long as a grin broke out on her lips. With a roll of her eyes, Clarity took the dress from the angel and said, "Okay, I'll give it chance." She put back the red dress and folded the blue one over her arm just before heading to the fitting room.
"Try them both on and we'll see how they look on you," Serena said with a smile as well. Hopefully she could convince the teenager that the blue dress would still look good without making Serena's job a lot more difficult by having to protect her from horny boys as well as anything else that would come after her.
With that goofy grin still on her face, Clarity rushed back over to the rack the red dress was hanging from and grabbed it. An excited squeal came from the blonde and she rushed toward the fitting room with glee.
Serena rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but smile just the same. It had been a long time since she had seen Clarity be that happy about anything, and, if it was a dress that brought it out of her, then maybe she should let it slide and allow her to get it, anyway.
Thanatos was walking the streets. When he wasn't stalking Lilah Morgan like Lucie had asked, he still walked around the streets, feeling around to see who he was to touch next. He had been honing in on a particular person, a young woman in her mid-twenties, when he sensed a great power source nearby in a dress shop. Curious, he walked inside of the store to figure out where it was coming from.
Clarity walked eagerly walked out of the fitting room in the blue dress and twirled in from the angel, "Well?" She asked a little uncertainly once she was facing Serena again.
"I think you look beautiful in it," Serena said. She would have said more, but she felt a change in the air, as if someone palpably evil had walked into the room.
That was because it had. When Thanatos saw the girl, he stopped for a second, instantly realizing just who, or, more importantly, what, she was.
The teenager was, of course, oblivious for the moment of what was happening. Clarity was too elated to be doing something other that staying indoors to care...until she turned and saw the gentleman in the sunglasses. The blonde froze, her entire frame tensing as fear crawled down her spine. It was the very, very scary man from her nightmares.
Serena saw him at the same time. "We need to leave. Now," she said simply. She didn't even think to get Clarity out of the dress, pulling her by the arm and rushing toward the exit, ignoring the screaming shopping clerk about them not paying for the dress.
Thanatos saw them move, and simply followed at his usual slow and calm pace as he headed out the exit after them. Death came for everyone, and it came in its own time. It didn't have to rush.
Clarity was too terrified to protest or say anything. In fact, she was so scared that she stumbled along after Serena who dragged her out of the store, still wearing the nice blue dress.
Even though Serena could no longer see him, she could still feel his presence. The darkness she could feel coming off of him made her want to scream. It pricked at her skin and made it feel like needles were stabbing at her. "This way," she said quickly to Clarity, pulling the girl down a series of alleys in an effort to evade their pursuer.
Thanatos could still feel the girl, even when Serena managed to pull her out of his line of sight. He followed the flow of power that was coming off of the girl.
As Clarity stumbled along after Serena, the blonde was finally able to gasp, "It's him, Serena!" She turned her head to look over her shoulder and while Clarity couldn't see him, she was still scared that the was following them.
"The man from your dreams?" Serena asked even as she continued to pull the girl left and right as she continued to try and get away from Thanatos.
Thanatos started to walk a little faster. He could not help himself. He wanted to find the girl and open the seal that would release the final horseman. It was what he was made to do, after all
The phrasing of the question triggered a laugh, a hysterial edge to it as Clarity replied, "Yeah...you could say that."
Serena kept pulling Clarity along, although now she was starting to feel the man's presence less and less. It seemed like they were finally loosing him.
