Surprise!
Who: Brenna and Grant
Where: Full Moon Records
When: June 4th - Morning
She would have thought sneaking into Full Moon Records would have been a more difficult task then it actually had been for Brenna, but the teen managed quite well, and did actually arrive at the record company before her father. It had taken a flip of a coin to decide which parent the girl would pay a visit to first. As luck would have it Grant won the toss, which was why Brenna was at the record company at the moment and not at the beach house her mother resided in in this present time period.
Seated in the chair behind Grant's desk, with it turned facing away from the door, Brenna looked out the office window while she waited for her father to arrive.
Hopefully, Brenna had remembered that Grant was notorious for running on what Reno 911 once called "CPT". If you don't know what that is? The mun isn't taking any chances of offending anyone and will just say it means he always runs late. He was due in at 8am, and yet, came sauntering in at exactly 9:12am. Yep. That's just how Grant rolls, people.
As he entered his office, he arched a brow as he noticed SOMEONE (obviously all he saw was the back of a head above the back of the chair), and sighed LOUDLY.
"Well. Outside of saying that I seriously need to fire this building's security, can I just say that if you have some demo or something, please just mail it? This really ain't gonna impress me..."
"You always were a grumpy pants in the morning." Brenna remarked softly swiveling in the desk chair so that she now faced her father. The teen then just looked at the man with the thought running through her head that he looked the same as he did in the future, except just younger. And if it weren't for Brenna having the restraint of her mother the teen would have been out of that desk chair and hugging her father. An action that would have come as quite the surprise for while she knew him, in this present time Grant wouldn't know her. Heck he and her mother wouldn't be expecting for another year yet.
"Right. Because we're old friends and everything. Say... since we're so close and all, mind reaching under the desk and hitting the duress button? Save me the trouble of having to manually call security myself?"
Oh, that snarky, sarcastic tone. The cocky, lopsided grin that accompanied it showed that clearly he thought a crazy person was sitting in his office.
"And before you get any nutty ideas, the security here might be inept? But I wouldn't mess with them if I were you."
"We are close. You, me, and momma." Brenna told him as she reached for the bag she had packed and brought with her from the future. The teen then stood slowly up from the chair.
"You sent me here. You and momma." Judging by the look on his face Brenna knew that her father wasn't going to be accepting anything she might say to him, so the teen opened her bag and found the letter future!Grant had written to present day!Grant. Moving around the desk Brenna stopped before she reached the man and offered him the envelope with the letter tucked inside.
Oh... balls.
He'd heard about this crap, obviously. Hell, Ben and Skylar now had a fourteen year old daughter living with them. But somehow it all seemed less funny when it was staring HIM in the face. He suspected what the note said before he even read it... yet still took a deeeeeeep breath before opening it. Shit.
Brenna went quiet then, waiting until after her father had opened and read the letter she had just delivered to him. If, for some reason, he was disbelieving what he was reading that had been written by his own hand, Brenna had additional proof of her identity. A treasured framed photo of herself with her mother and father. The only photograph she had managed to sneak out of the future with her.
"I... jesus... I guess I shouldn't be surprised, not after hearing about Ben and Skylar's kids..."
He looked at her, a long, studying look, before grinning.
"You have your mother's eyes, you know." Of course, part of him wanted to jump for joy as this meant that they HAD managed to overcome everything in the future...
"Can we avoid awkwardness if I say to come give yer old man a hug?"
"And her stubbornness as you've told me more then once." Brenna needed no encouragement there as the teen was just aching to embrace her father, and the teen soon closed the distance between her and Grant launching herself into his arms.
"Thank god you got your looks from her side of the family. If you ever met any of the girls in my side of the family you know exactly why I say that. Nice, nice women, but I swear I've seen prettier gorillas."
Really. This guy and Bronte were destined to be eternal? Really?
"So... erm..." Yes, he was feeling incredibly awkward here. "Um... do you need anyplace to stay for now? Till we can get you kids all a more... comfortable place to stay."
That caught a giggle from Brenna as she held onto her dad a moment longer before taking a step back. This was the dad she had grown up loving and cherishing.
"If you or mom have room." She'd rather live with both of them, but seeing as they both had their own residences that wasn't an actual option. "And I, um, came here first." An obvious hint that Bronte was unaware that Brenna was in the here and now.
"Oh, ok... OH! OH!"
Uh-oh. The grin that accompanied that exclamation? The man had some wickedness about to come out, for sure.
"You gotta tell her you're my daughter BEFORE you tell her anything else. Get her all pissed off, thinking I had some kid I never told her about..."
Why did he love annoying Bronte so much? And even better... why did she love him enough to tolerate it???
"I don't know. I don't like getting momma in an angry mood." Sure her folks tolerated each other more then any other parents Brenna had known back in the future, but that didn't mean Brenna wanted a bad first meeting with her mother. "Maybe if you came with me? Really don't want to walk all that way to mommas beach house."
"Tell ya what... let me take care of a couple quick things here, so it looks like, you know, I actually do something around here, then I'll drive you over. Besides, I can probably use the time to think of some way to spring this on her that will be less likely to end with her maiming me in ways that actually PREVENT us from having you."
Sometimes? Grant honestly just seemed like he talked to hear himself talk. Yet it was maddeningly charming, which was his saving grace. Plus, it was obvious that while he loved tormenting Bronte, he truly adored the woman entirely.
"Can I hang out here? Not here, here," she didn't want to be a distraction while her father tried getting some work done, "but, you know, here. Maybe watch a recording session or something." Really how much trouble could Brenna get herself into by simple wandering the hallways of the record company.
He arched an eyebrow when she asked that, as, just by the little lilt in her voice, he could tell that while she got her looks from Bronte... she likely inherited HIS penchant for mischief. So, knowing this, what could he say there besides, "Of COURSE!"
So he enjoyed mischief. Problem with that?
"Thank you, Daddy!" Brenna exclaimed happily rushing her father again to hug him tightly for a brief moment. It clearly could be seen that Brenna simply adored her father, though he might be the more lenient of her parents, Brenna had never abused that fact. "I'll come back in a bout fifteen." She told Grant as reached for her travel bag.
"Anytime, sweet child o' mine..." A GNR reference? Way to show your age, Grant. "Just try not to burn anything down, ok? I'll meet you in the lot."
"Oh, Daddy," Brenna giggled, "I haven't burned anything to the ground since I was 13." The teen grinning with her teasing words. "I'll catch ya on the flip side." And then with a kiss to his cheek, Brenna was out the door with the strap of her travel bag slung over her shoulder.
