Change of Guard
Who: Buffy and Neely
Where: LAGH
When: Friday evening, May 28th
The last ten days of Neely’s life had been miserable. After her… disagreement with Gwen, she’d gone to the place where Rachelle had been found, hoping to pick up on a scent that she could track (she had a remarkably good nose, after all), but… finding nothing, she found herself back at Rachelle’s bedside. Sure, she planned to murder whoever had hurt her wife (she suspected she’d have a smile on her face when she did it), but until she had a lead, she was going to spend as much time with Rachelle as possible. She was currently sitting on the edge of Rachelle’s bed, clad in denim jeans and wearing a grey hoodie, singing softly about a dream she kept on having.
Look down - The ground below is crumbling.
Look up - The stars are all exploding.
Hey yea-ah, yea-ah, eh, oh...
Hey yea-ah, eh, oh…
It's the last day on earth… In my dreams … In my dreams.
It's the end of the world, and you've come back to me.
In my dreams…*
Buffy didn't want to think much about the situation that Neely was in. Buffy couldn't promise that, if she weren't in the same situation, that she wouldn't have already have killed someone over it. What most people hadn't seen yet was that Buffy had a bad temper. (Let her run into Brayden Bale and see her unleash it though because of him sleeping with her future daughter.) Right now she was here to do a favor though. She headed up to the hospital room to let Neely go home and get some rest.
Being a werewolf had a few strong points, one of them being hypersensitive hearing, as she heard the Slayer approach long before she came to the entrance of the room. She turned her body slowly towards the doorway and raised an eyebrow at her fellow blonde… before remembering her at the wedding. She relaxed, remembering her as Kevin's date rather than Ash's promise for his Slayer to take shifts (which only came a few seconds later). "Buffy, right?"
Buffy nodded. "Yeah, that would be me," she said. "Ash asked me to come by and watch over Rachelle so that you could go home for a little while."
"He's a sweetheart, isn't he?" Neely said. While she believed what she said, her voice was so dull and lifeless; you weren't entirely sure how much stock she put into that statement. She looked Buffy over slowly, as if assessing her strengths and weaknesses, and nodded. She appeared strong, and if Ash trusted her? That was enough for Neely. "Thanks for coming in."
"Yeah, he is," Buffy said. She knew there should be feeling behind her voice. She was just in shock or something because of what happened to her wife. "It's not a problem. I'm glad to help you and Rachelle out."
"Maybe when this is all over we can do a 'welcome home' thing," Neely murmured, before leaning over and kissing Rachelle's forehead. She vehemently believed that Rachelle would wake up. It was just a matter of when. "She'd probably say it's unnecessary, but still..." She blinked and stood, completely lost in her own thoughts for a moment then.
"I think that would be a great thing, actually," Buffy said to her. "I'm sure she'd really appreciate that, even if she said that it was unnecessary."
"I think that would be a great thing, actually," Buffy said to her. "I'm sure she'd really appreciate that, even if she said that it was unnecessary.""Just… have to stay positive, y’know?" Neely replied, although it was hard to say who she was trying to convince with that statement.
"You should stay positive," Buffy said to Neely. "I know I don't really know either of you very well, but Rachelle looks like a fighter to me." And that wasn't just because of the arrest that she heard of! "She's gonna pull through this."
Neely looked to Buffy again, something just... niggling at the back of her mind, but she couldn't quite place it. Maybe she was just... tired, or something. "Thank you. ... You're exactly the person I want to be here, right now. ...Hopeful."
Buffy gave her a small smile. "Good. Now go home and get some sleep. I doubt that Rachelle would want you running yourself ragged right now."
"Yeah, she'd probably say I need my energy for all the sex that we missed out on," Neely replied with a weak chuckle, before patting Buffy's arm. "G'night, Buffy."
Buffy chuckled herself. It took a lot to disturb her these days. "Night, Neely," she said back to her.
