Hanging With the Cousin
Who: Brandie and Brenda, with appearances by Bronte and Skylar
Where: Bella's Apartment
When: May 14, 2019
Brandie was still very much weirded out by everything that was going on. So, someone was trying to get to her parents. Who would want to do something like that, anyway? She really couldn't picture anyone wanting to hurt her parents. Sure, her mom and Bella's father's wife didn't get along oh so great, but even that was a big stretch of the imagination. What she wanted was an explanation as to what was going on. Still, being the young kid that she was, she figured that NO adult was going to tell her what was up, which meant finding it out from other sources.
Brenna was slouched in one of the chairs in the living area of Bella's apartment, sulking. A habit she seemed to have picked up after being dropped off at her cousin's place by her parents. She shouldn't be there. She should be back home with her folks to help them figure all this out. Why someone was after them and wanted to bring hurt to her family. Trying to get more out of Grant and Bronte Kellerman was like trying to squeeze water from a rock. And if she couldn't get more info out of them as to what was happening it was more then likely she'd not be able to get anything out of any other adult. So here she was confined to an apartment with her cousins doing absolutely nothing.
Brandie walked into the room where Brenna was sulking. "You don't happen to know what is going on with our parents, do you?"
"If I did, Squirt, I sure as hell wouldn't be sulking around this place." Brenna sat up a bit straighter in the chair as she answered her cousin with a smile. If Brenna knew more then just that they were going to be sent back in time because their parents feared for their safety she wouldn't be sitting here in a relatives apartment feeling useless and helpless.
"Mom and Dad wouldn't tell me anything," Brandie said, flopping down on the floor. "They just told me that things were dangerous and that I had to go stay with Bella." They had kept Brandie completely in the dark about this.
"That's because they think the whole 'keep us in the dark' bit will keep us safer." Brenna relayed to her younger cousin. "Your Aunt Bronte and Uncle Grant told me pretty much the same thing. That I'm being sent wherever and they'll take care of the rest." Brenna wished she had more to offer Brandie. Wished she could ease away the girl's worries so she would fret so much. But she knew little more then her younger cousin did.
Brandie sighed. "I wish they wouldn't do this kind of stuff to us," she complained. "I'm not sure how helpful it really is to keep us in the dark like this."
"Because if they told us all that was going on they know we'd insist on helping, which would only make them worry more." Brenna scooted down off the chair to sit on the floor beside her cousin. "Guess you could say it eases their minds some thinking they're sending us somewhere out of harms way."
Brandie nodded, but that didn't mean that she had to like it. "Well, by easing their minds, they're going to drive us insane. Did your parents even give you like a time limit or something?"
"Fraid not, Squirt. My dad said I just have to sit tight until I hear from them." Which really sucked. Brenna hadn't been kept out of things before where family was concerned, which was driving the teen to the limits of her sanity. She should be out there doing something to help, they all should be, instead remaining cooped up in her one cousin's apartment.
Brandi made a face. "So NOT cool," she said to Brenna. "So, we're just supposed to sit here until all is well or something?"
"Afraid so. My folks, at least, would have a cow if they came to the apartment and found me missing. Though I have to say, Brandi, if I'm stuck within these four walls another day or two I may just break the both of us outta here." The sitting and waiting was the hardest part for Brenna. Being within the same four walls for days at a time was making the sole daughter of Grant and Bronte Kellerman more then a little bit stir crazy.
That actually made Brandie giggle. "God, our parents would so have a FIT if we took off for a night, wouldn't they?" she asked her. Of course, now a part of her wanted to do just that right now, even IF her parents would kill her for it.
"Have a fit? They'd blow a casket if they found out we weren't where we were suppose to be." At least her folks would have a brain hemorrhage if they learned somehow that Brenna had left the apartment. "Get your mobile, Squirt." The older of the two cousins instructed as she pulled herself up from the floor to her feet. It wouldn't be an all night escapade, but Brenna was damned if she was going wait another day to break out of their confinement.
Brandie grabbed her cellphone and stood up. "Where are we going?" she asked. She may have been young, but she wasn't so naive as to not realize that they were probably about to raise a little hell...er...heck.
"How does ice cream sound?" Brenna grabbed her messeger style bag, making sure she had her own mobile device, and made a start for the door. It wasn't that she was dragging her younger cousin out to intentionally get the girl in trouble, but both seemed to have had enough of the confinement they had been placed in that an hour or two of the actual freedom they were accustomed to wasn't going to bring either girl any harm.
"Ice cream sounds awesome," Brandie said with a grin, grabbing her purse as well. It wasn't like they were going out clubbing or anything (something that Brandie was forbidden to do by her parents). They were just going to get ice cream. Not so bad, right?
What had started out as a ice cream run had turned into an ice cream run, let's stop for new release movie, and just gotta have mega amounts of caffiene night. Which also happened to include stops at two of the girls favorite shopping places. Needless to say Brenna and Brandie had been out longer then Brenna had planned for them, but in her defense the two teens had had more fun in the last few hours then all the time they had spent cooped up in the apartment.
"Now remember, no spilling to the parentals about tonight, right?" Brenna glanced back at her cousin while she stuck a hand into her bag to feel around for the key to the door of Bella's apartment. Neither had gotten a call from their parents so Brenna was thinking they were in the clear. Which meant that unless they were sent away in the morning she at least could sneak out again. Getting out once now made phone calls to the boyfriend no longer an accepted thing.
Opening the door Brenna stepped inside and flicked on the light to a sight that was the last she expected to see.
Brandie nodded when Brenna explained just what they should not say to their parents as they were walking in. She was just relieved that she had gotten away from that apartment for a little while. She had been going a little stir crazy in there. Plus, they had fun and hadn't exactly gotten into any trouble while they were out, so what was the harm?
Her eyes widened when she saw who was in the apartment now, waiting on them. What neither girl had realized that their parents hadn't bought any excuse that they could come up with, and now waiting for them was Bronte Kellerman and Skylar Bale, both looking rather ticked off.
Skylar looked them over. "Where have you two been? Didn't we tell you to stay here?"
"We went out for a walk." Brenna answered her aunt in a cool, calm voice with her eyes remaining fixed on her mother. The last thing she had expected to find was one parent waiting for them, but to have two, one of which was her mother, well at the moment Brenna wasn't anywhere near worried about what her Aunt Skylar might be thinking or on the verge of saying.
Brandie simply nodded. Brenna may have not been afraid of her mom, but Brandie sure was!
"A walk does not take several hours," Skylar pointed out. She also looked down at their shopping bags and coffee. "And you didn't just go for a walk."
"If things weren't severe as they are you'd be grounded until you were forty, Brenna Kellerman." Bronte chided her daughter barely able to refrain from actually snapping at the teenager. "When you were told to stay in the apartment that's what your father and I had meant. I don't know how that got translated into leaving for hours without a word. What were you thinking."
"Mom... "Brenna opened her mouth and started to speak only to clamped it shut upon the realization that nothing she would say would make a difference to her mother. Brenna had violated the one rule her parents placed on her, and the disappointed that resulted from that was almost more then the teen could bear.
"Why DO we have to stay inside like prisoners?" Brandie finally blurted out. "You can't exactly expect us to want to listen to you if you don't tell us what's going on, do you?"
Skylar sighed and looked toward Bronte. Should they tell the girls what was going on? They were certainly going to find out soon enough, weren't they?

Skylar sighed and looked toward Bronte. Should they tell the girls what was going on? They were certainly going to find out soon enough, weren't they?
"Because it's for your own safety, Brandie." Bronte sighed meeting Skylar's glance as she rubbed her temple with the pads of her fingers. She might have agreed to tell the girls what was going on, but after their little stunt earlier that evening Bronte wasn't feeling all that generous, and all it was serving to do was give her a headache. Something she could definitely do without when she had to deal with a daughter who had a stubborn streak that matched her own.
"Maybe if we knew what was going on we could help." Brenna said in an attempt to try and reason with her mother, and if not maybe her aunt might feel up to be more forthcoming with what was going on.
Brandie nodded. "Why can't we help out? It's not like you guys weren't doing much of the same thing when you were our ages, right?" OK, so maybe their parents in particular had been a little bit older, but their friends had been their age, right?
"Because this isn't something that can be helped, Brandie!" Skylar finally snapped. "All we can do is just get you as far away as we possibly can, OK?"
"This isn't up for debate or discussion." Bronte's voice rising a couple decibels as she spoke to both girls. "And you're going to remain here until we are able to send you to a safe place." This time her words were spoken directly to her daughter when Bronte's eyes shot in Brenna's direction. A look that Brenna knew well and knew better then to even try and question.
Brandie actually flinched a little when her mother yelled at her. Skylar had never yelled at her before. "Mom, seriously, what is going on here?" she said softly. It had to be something crazy for her mother to be acting like that.
Skylar sighed and hugged her daughter. "Sweetie, I'm sorry, but just trust me when I say that this is something very serious. We don't want you running around and getting hurt right now. You've just got to trust us in that you are safe here for right now and we'll be sending you somewhere better very shortly."
"You've got to promise me that you'll stay here and not be wandering the streets again, Brenna. The last thing your father and I need to be worried about is where you are." Bronte needed to have her daughter's word that she would remain in the apartment until she heard from her parents. The last thing either set of parents needed was to arrive at the apartment when it was time to send the girls off only to find one or more of them missing like Bronte and Skylar had found that night.
"I promise," Brenna agreed, although a bit grudgingly, to her mother. "I just wish you would trust us enough to tell us what's going on."
"She's right," Skylar said to Brandie. "We don't want to be worried about where you are. We want you to be here when we come for you, OK?"
Brandie nodded. "OK, we'll stay here," she said, defeated.
"We're only doing this because of the extent of our love for you." And though not one for public displays of affection, Bronte took those couple steps toward her daughter to hug her tight. "If anything happened to you... " Bronte's voice trailed off as she felt the words catch in her throat.
"Promise not to leave the apartment again." Brenna whispered back feeling her emotions start to well up inside her as she hugged her mother back.
Brandie wasn't sure if she had ever seen her aunt hug anyone before. That was li d of strange. It also made her worry a lot more, because, if Aunt Bronte was feeling huggy, then the world had to be coming to an end or something equally as scary.
