Buffy's pancakes finally arrived. "I don't live too far from here, so I'll be alright, but I appreciate that." She covered her pancakes in syrup and took a bite. "Whoa, talk about yum!"
"Yeah, really." He said, realizing a second too late that he was staring right at her when he said it. "Right. Anyway."
Buffy just grinned at him, then continued to eat her pancakes for a few moments. Girl could really put food away when she wanted to. Much be the Slayer metabolism. "So, other than being full of morons, what is our high school like.
"Boring, really." He felt like he was being terribly lame here, and scrambled a bit. "I mean, for me. Just because I'm not really social. I'd rather be working on my bike or reading a book than, you know... listening to the latest scoop on who's sleeping with who."
"That stuff does get really old, doesn't it?" she asked with a smile. Her life was full of death and apocalypses, so things like that kind of get boring after saving people's lives. Too bad she couldn't tell him that.
He finished his coffee, still giving the girl plenty of eye contact. Hey, he didn't flirt a lot, but he wasn't bad at it when he did. "So... you too cool to hang with me at school, or do I have someone to eat lunch with now?"
"I'd say you definitely have a lunch date now," she said, then blushed. "Well, not technically date, but you know what I mean, right?" Open mouth, insert foot.
"Right. Not technically. At least... not yet." He winked, as, seeing the blush, he knew she was at least semi-interested.
Buffy smiled at him again, still blushing. "Alright, see you at lunch then," she said to him.
He got up, putting down a few dollars for his food... and enough to cover her pancakes as well, without her realizing it. "See you tomorrow." He grinned at her, and headed out to walk home.
"See you then," she said, giving him a wave before he walked out.
