I Don't Like You
Who: Jack, Brayden, and Mere (at the end)
When: May 22, Evening
Where: Saints & Sinners
So, Jack had finally broken down and talked to Ash, which now meant that he needed to find the other boy who seemed to be a big influence in his daughter's life, Brayden Bale. Since he couldn't tell Mere who to see (because she was FAR too much like Jack to listen to any sort of reason) he was going to talk to this boy and spell out CLEARLY what would happen if Mere got hurt. He didn't want her to become like him, cynical and bitter and completely not functioning in relationships no matter how hard he tried.
If Ash was calm and calculating, then Brayden? Was brash and cocky and arrogant. To him? Meredith won the friggin' JACKPOT getting with him. He was at his father's usual table at Saints & Sinners, watching his favorite dancer (Eve, thanks for asking) do her thing, that stupid, cocky grin plastered to his face.
Oh Jack sort of wanted to smack him as soon as he saw him. He pulled a Benjamin out of his pocket. "Make yourself scarce for a little while," he said, handing it to Eve. He then turned to Brayden. "You and I need to talk, and I don't care what your damn last name is, we're going to set a few ground rules about Meredith."
"Damn, brother... NOW? Shit." He muttered as he watched her walk away. "Fine, fine. Hit me with the 'blah blah hurt my kid and die' speech. If you want I can probably give you the speech Kowalski gave me and let you paraphrase it. Save you some time so I can get back to shoving cash into thongs."
Jack rolled his eyes. Had he ever been THIS moronic? God he hoped not, but figured he probably had. "For as much as I didn't like that kid, at least he had respect," Jack muttered, before hauling up Bray by the collar of his shirt. "Kowalski won't have a chance to kill you if you actually hurt my daughter, Bale," he growled at him. "I don't give a shit as to who or what you are. You hurt my daughter and make her as jaded as me and they won't find your remains."
Face it: with good timing and the right weapon? Jack could get lucky and find a way to kill Brayden. But HE was far too cocky to consider that. No, he just did his best to not be a smartass for Mere's sake. "Trust me, bud, I got no plans of hurting Mere. Except for in the ways she likes it." Because obviously that's the kind of thing you say to your girlfriend's father. Obviously.
Jack had marvelously good luck at staying alive, so he might have been able to pull it off Lucky for Bray that Jack laughed at his little comment. Jack and Mere didn't quite have the typical father/daughter relationship that would have made Jack horrified to heat that. He let go of Bray.
Luck had NOTHING to do with Mere's timing when she walked out of the back just in time to see her father drop Brayden. "What the fuck, Jack?" she asked as se walked over with a slight laugh. "He could like, rip you in half!"
"And I know someone perfectly willing to turn him into a housecat strictly for the hell of it," Jack pointed out, ready to walk away. "Your taste in women is a lot better." Saying that, he did walk away.
"Dude. Your dad's kinda cool." Yeah, that was what Brayden got out of this. Fucking bonehead. "I must be a real piece of work if I got your dad and Kowalski on the same page..."
"Or they realize I'm serious about this and feel the need to figure out if you are as well," she said. She watched as Jack paid for a private room with Eve, with a 'fuck you' glance in Bray's direction. "What did they say, anyway?"
"Same shit, different phrasing. Blah blah, I hurt you I die, blah blah. Whatever." See? Clearly the lessons had been learned.
"God, like they'd even GET to you if you fucked me over in all the wrong ways," Mere said with a shake of their head. Oh, if he did, SHE'D kill him, but whatever. "They're just protective or something. *I* don't get it, but they can't turn it off. Is it a male thing?"
"Like I said. Whatever. They just love you. I could give a rat's ass what anyone other than you and Mac think of me." Sadly? That was the truth.
She simply shrugged before plopping herself down on his lap. "I need to meet Mac," she said. He had talked about her a few times, and she couldn't help but be curious as to another girl that brought a sweet side out of him.
"Damn right you do. She's a hell of a gal." Was... Was he getting all protective of someone he WASN'T banging? Seriously?
"She must be," Mere said. "Took her to Prom and everything. I bet she's a really sweet girl."
"First date I ever went on that didn't end in sex. Kind of a milestone for me." He said with a proud shrug. "Didn't know I had it in me. You know. To NOT have it in HER."
"I'm actually kind of impressed," Mere admitted. "Impressed enough to want to 'reward' you for it," she added playfully.
"Reward me, hm? You know... Suddenly I think its time to go home..." He said sweetly, although his expression hinted to things far more wicked.
"I'm sure I can sneak out of here a little early," she said to him. Hell, this place mostly ran itself as long as the girls were getting along, which they were tonight.
