The Prince and the Pop Star
Another busy evening at Avarice, it seemed. For a Monday night, the place was packed, which amazed the resident pop star no end. For as Haylee James sat in the VIP section, at a table set up solely for her and any guests she had, the blonde found herself in awe of just how good of an operation the Bale family had set up here. They really WERE like some... supernatural version of the Corleone family. They had it all: money, charm, connections... maybe signing with Ben was a good idea, even had he not offered her protection. Tonight, she was dressed in a sequinned silver miniskirt, matching silver highlights streaking through her blonde hair, multi-colored streaks of makeup passing for eyeliner. Was she a bit odd? Yes... but she LOVED the attention it got her.
Getting from
Haylee stood, placing her hands on the railing near her table, looking down at the throng of dancing patrons below her. While not really a fan of hard rock and metal, she was digging the atmosphere, big time. Plus... feeling safe? BONUS. Sure, she was sort of cooped up here, and had cancelled the next few weeks of her tour, but this was totally worth it, just to be able to sleep at night.
Los Angeles
As if someone were trying to make him laugh (or possibly it was just coincidence, considering who owned the club), as he made his way through, one of Skylar's songs with Suicide Messiah began to play over the sound system. Haylee took a quick glance at the entrances, and noted that David, Baily, and
He recognized the song, of course. How could he not? Skylar had sent all of her siblings copies of her band's demo, and Samuel had listened to it more than a few times. At the time, the music made him wish that he'd kept in better touch with Skylar since she'd bolted from New Orleans; now, here he was, hoping against hope that she could help him, or maybe new someone who could. Samuel approached the bar and lifted two fingers, shouting to be heard above the noise, trying - and mostly succeeding - to shut out the clamor of voices in his head. A moment later, he had a glass of Jameson's on the rocks in his hand and an attractive, well-endowed female bartender refusing to take his money, telling him, instead, that his drink was on the house. Curioser and curioser, sis, he mused, taking a sip and looking over the darkened room, trying to find the VIP lounge the bouncer had mentioned.
Haylee started to walk towards the private bar then, sort of wishing she could just go to the bar below them with everyone else, but also knowing that that? Might not be a good thing. She raised a brow as she noted the bouncer pointing Samuel in the direction of the VIP section, but also knew that she was in no danger here. Figuring she'd at least help a little, she gave a little wave to the young man, figuring that when he saw her? He'd pretty much know IMMEDIATELY that was the VIP section. Really... where ELSE would she be?
Sam was nowhere near the social buttefly that Mikey was, but he followed music, even allowing himself a few guilty pleasures mixed in with his more "serious" musical choices - the occassional bubble gum pop song found its way into his collection of indie and progressive rock. His dark eyes drifted over toward an elevated, roped off area of the club, and if that wasn't confirmation enough, the woman he saw waving to him certainly was. That couldn't possibly be... But then, this was LA, and Avarice seemed like it was a popular nightspot. His immediate reaction was a brief lifting of his brows, and he paused at the bar for a moment or two longer before casually making his way to the lounge where he was stopped by a female member of the event staff. "I'm Skylar's brother," he said, pulling out his ID again, showing it to the woman. "Oh, excuse me. Please, Mr. James. Welcome to Avarice," she replied, opening the rope to let him in.
"Mr. James?" She asked, chuckling cutely as she made her way over. "Well. I know enough about my new label to know that if you have that name and you're in this section? You must be related to Mr. Bale's fiance. Nice to meet you... I'm Haylee." Like he didn't know that. Like EVERYONE didn't know that. But hey. She was trying to be slightly humble here.
Sam saluted the woman at the rope with a nod of his head and a raise of his glass, then moved beyond the velvet barrier, doing his best to act like he belonged there. It probably wasn't terribly convincing, but considering how he was being treated, it would probably do the trick. As he moved further into the elevated lounge, he was greeted by that same familiar - if strangely made-up - face and he found himself staring. "Of course you are," Samuel replied, showing her a smile. "Her brother, actually. Ah... I'm sorry. You're... really you, aren't you?" he asked, shaking his head and regarding her anew.
"Well... unless I was somehow lied to my entire life, yes, I believe I am." She laughed, eyes sparkling as she did. "I haven't had the pleasure of meeting your sister yet, but I'm looking forward to it. She's... quite impressive. Not exactly my style of music, but to hear a roar like that come from a girl like her? Still very impressive."
"You should have heard her roar when our brother glued her face to her pillow. That was terrifying," Sam replied, swirling the ice in his glass, then taking a sip of the whisky. Growing up as they had, Samuel was surrounded by people wielding both power and wealth, but it was rare that he met an actual celebrity. He forced himself to keep his eyes off of his drink and instead focus on her - Haylee's - face. "So, it seems like my sister actually knows some people in this town. This is... it's a surprise." He realized, again, that he was staring, and covered it with another sip from his glass.
"Well, as I said... I havent had the pleasure of meeting her quite yet... but it DOES seem as though she's well connected. And you know..." She said in a teasing lilt of a voice, as she caught him sort-of staring "A picture would last longer."
"Touring, concerts... always. I'm a bit of an attention whore, so I love that. Meeting fans? Usually." She groaned, making a little face there. "When they're respectful and give me space? Yes. But when they crowd me, or... act creepy? Not so much."
He nodded at that, then frowned, watching as the witress handed Haylee her drinking before turning and leaving. Sam took a sip from his glass, then set it back down and turned his head toward the blonde again. "Ah, listen... if you'd rather be by yourself, I understand... " he said, his voice trailing off as he considered what she'd said.
By contrast, he didn't know what to make of her. She was beautiful, yes, and clearly a little eccentric - an Artiste, one might say - but he wasn't sure how much of that was her, and how much of it was a fascade. Of course, the same could be said about anyone. Still, she was nothing else if not intriguing. "Did you grow up in LA?" he asked, leaning back in his chair, draping his arm over the back.
"Funny enough, no. I grew up in
"It was just a guess," he replied, taking a last drag from the cigarette and exhaling again before stubbing it out into the ashtray. Closing the hardpack, he dropped it into his shirt pocket and reached for his Jameson's, taking a sip. "Well, maybe not quite that good," he said, smiling into his drink, setting it down again. Sam lifted his eyes toward her, dropping them again and swallowed, suddenly finding himself tongue-tied. He didn't have the gift for gab that Mikey did, but he had the feeling even his brother would be intimidated sitting in this seat across from Haylee.
"So... I have to ask, dearie..." She snickered, but in a lighthearted, truly amused way, "Is your entire family this charming? If so, I understand how Mr. Bale fell so easily for your sister. You're not even trying, yet the charm simply comes off you in waves." Funny enough, she wasn't even hitting on him: this was just how she was - honest to a fault, usually without really thinking of how it came off.
