Secrets
Who: Wesley and Gwen
Where: The newly acquired Hyperion Hotel
When: Saturday, 5/8
Wesley looked around the basement of the Watcher Council's newest purchase, the Hyperion Hotel. It was nice and spacious, and could house any of their Slayers who wanted a home of their own, you know, once they had the place completely up to code, which is wasn't at the moment. Actually, 'decrepit hell hole' was an apt descriptor at the moment.
Gwen had been throwing a few punches at the heavy bag hanging in the basement at the time. Sure, it was a shithole right now, but, as she was about to point out, "You know, Wes... granted I've seen roach motels that were cleaner... but this place still beats the shit out of training in a coffee shop..."
He snorted. "Well, at least the coffee shop had air conditioning," he pointed out. California seemed to be in a heat wave, and the both of them were pouring sweat. "I'm glad you like it, though, and it's your opinion that counts more than mine." Well, Slayer vs. Watcher opinion, anyway.
"Dude. Seriously. Once they get this shit cleaned up, get some A/C up in this bitch, and everything else? GOD this would be bad-ass..." Then? Because as we all know, Gwen didn't always think before she spoke... "Faith could even put Candi up in her....fuck." She caught herself a little TOO late. Great. Her friend confided in her ONE little thing and she just blurted it out in front of Wesley.
That caused an immediate turn around from whatever it was that he was looking at, and walking right over to look Gwen in the eye. "You mean to tell me that the one person who should be the most afraid of Candi Harrington has been sheltering her?" he asked. "And you knew?"
"Look, Wes..." Gwen started to panic a little there, waving her hands. "It's a LONG FUCKING STORY ok? Candi.. she's trying, ok? She wants to be good again. They're kinda... kinda together now, ok? But if you go and tell Giles, Faith will NEVER forgive me. Just... give me a few days, ok? I swear I'll get Faith to talk to him."
He nodded. "I understand that Faith may have feelings for this girl, but she still needs to be under strict surveillance. And, obviously, needs an actual place to live, if what you hinted at is true."
"Wes. PROMISE ME." She glared at him, and while usually, Angry!Wes was one of the few things that scared her, this time she was holding fast. "You can't say anything. If you love me, you cannot say a GOD DAMNED THING."
"I'm not going to say a GOD DAMNED thing," he pointed out right back to her. Strangely, he was one of the few who actually stood up to her, even if, technically, she could kick his butt six ways to Sunday. "I promise, but you have to promise to get her to talk to Giles about it. She can't hide stuff like this." And neither can you, he added silently.
"I'm sorry, Wes..." She said with a little croak, hating that she kept anything from him. He was one of the few people she trusted implicitly. "If it helps... Faith literally JUST told me yesterday... Wes, I swear, I wouldn't normally hide anything from you... but Faith is one of the few loyal friends I have... and she trusted me to keep this to myself."
He sighed. "It does...some," he admitted. Not as much as he'd like, though. "I understand that she's your friend, and I know that she feared Giles finding out, but this is still something that he must know, from her, because it will hurt him too much to hear it from anyone else."
"I'm sorry, Wes... please... don't..." She wanted to say 'dont be mad' but... it wasn't what she meant. "Don't be... disappointed in me?"
He reached over and touched her shoulder. "I'm not. I just don't want you to feel that you have to hide anything like that from me, alright?"
"Never. I mean... she asked me to not tell anyone, and I mean... what could I do?" She pleaded, hating this predicament. "I'm sorry, I mean it..."
He nodded. "I understand, I really do. I just don't want you to feel that you can't come to me about something in your life, OK?" He cringed. "Although, if you get back together with Skylar, I may have to have you deprogrammed by a professional, because I'll know something is wrong."
"Wes? I'll love her until the day I die... but I'll never give her the chance to hurt me again. Ever. Even when Ben eventually, inevitably, cheats on her and knocks some OTHER chick up." She smirked, shaking her head. "Is it wrong that I *want* to see that happen?"
"You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that," Wesley admitted to her. "And no, because I simply expect to see it as well."
"We should start a betting pool with the other slayers and watchers. 'Which One Will Cheat First?' or something..." Sadly, to Gwen? This was a GRAND idea.
He actually chuckled. "I'm not sure if all of them will appreciate that, but I would throw in my money." Wesley...bitter? Never!
"Awesome, dude... we can probably get a few others involved too. I know damn well Ash and PK will put some cash in..." Sigh. Sad part here? Girl sounded SERIOUS. "Anyway, to hell with them. This is a new start. A braaaand new Gwen. I'm here, I'm qu- no, scratch that part... anyway, I'm sorta seeing someone, I'm gettin' my groove back... HELL yes."
"I'm sure that the two of them will throw in a lot of money for that," he joked. "The proceeds should go to fixing this place up." He looked around disdainfully for a second. "I'm glad that you are really starting to feel better about it, though."
"Look, Wes. Just... whatever happens, remember that you've ALWAYS been the one person who never gave up on me, and who was ALWAYS there for me. I love you, man..." She said with a little sniff, practically throwing herself at him for a big hug.
He hugged her back. "I'll always be here for you, Gwen," he said to her. "No matter what happens, OK?"
