Interesting Night...Secrets are Revealed
Who: Wesley, Gwen, and Joshua
Where: Wesley's House
When: Wednesday, May 5th
Wesley sat on the sofa of his living room, waiting for Gwen to arrive back from her patrol for the night. He hated that he still felt the need to sit here and wait for her to get in, but he felt protective over her, OK?
"Jesus FUCK I hate this job sometime..." Gwen mumbled as she came ambling up to the door then, wearing tight gray jeans, biker boots, and an Eternal Embrace t-shirt, frantically shaking what appeared to be dust or ash from her hair. "Seriously, Wes... this is the shits."
"Such is the way of destiny, sometimes," Wesley said to her. It wasn't like he enjoyed the idea of burying an almost fiance, either, which he probably wouldn't have done if his life hadn't been this deep in dangerous stuff, either. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. but look at my HAIR, Wes. I caught him as he was jumping at me. I think I swallowed ash, dude. And nobody but Lucy Van Warren should be doing that, ok?" She grumbled again, trying to hide a sizable bruise she had forming on her hip. Hey, it would heal soon enough.
Wesley made a face at her joke of who should be swallowing Ash. As Gwen, always classy. He caught sight of the bruise. "Did he hit you or something?"
"He connected with a couple decent hits. But hey... I won. It's just a bruise. I might a few others, but it's no big. I swear." She was sore, but was already feeling a little better.
He nodded. He had seen her much worse, but he couldn't help but worry over her a little, like always.
"Look, dude. I'm... I'm gonna go get cleaned up, then come down and make a HUGE ass dinner. Because any time I come back I'm rarin' to go, and I can't think of anything other than eating that I can do here without either freaking you out or going into territory neither of us wants to go to." She kicked off her boots, not really giving a damn where they went.
"How about I go ahead and get that dinner started while you get changed and showered," Wesley said to her. He wasn't going to say anything to her about territories or anything like that.
"That... sounds better than you could imagine. Cold shower, hot dinner... yes. Gwen like." Tiredly stalking off up the steps, mumbling to herself.
Wesley grinned. "Fine, then go hop in the shower and..." He trailed off as someone knocked on the door. "Now who could that be?"
Gwen didn't even hear the door, as she was stomping off to her room. She let herself just collapse onto her bed, spread out as if she were making a snow angel. Sometimes? Slaying SUCKED.
The person on the other side of the door was Joshua Goldberg, actually. "Um...hey, I was wondering if Gwen was home? I know it's kind of late, but I just got off of work."
Wesley arched an eyebrow at him. "So did she. Let me go and ask her. Wait right here." At least he had the sense not to invite him in just yet. He shut the door and walked up the stairs to Gwen's room. "Gwen? Someone's here to see you."
"Aw, for fuck's sake, Wes... it's not that guy with the gold tooth, right? I already told him I'll pay him back as SOON as I can. Damn." She grumbled, finally getting the strength to get her shirt off, now laying there in her jeans and a black bra.
"I don't even want to know," Wesley muttered, looking away when he realized that she wasn't wearing a shirt. "No, it's no one with a gold tooth."
Had Gwen gotten herself into a little bit of debt? Quite possibly. "Whatever... whoever it is, I'm sure this ain't anything they haven't already seen."
Wesley just shook his head. "Maybe, maybe not. That's not something that I would know about."
"Whatever dude. Just... yeah. Whoever's there, send 'em in." Honestly? Gwen figured it was one of her fellow Slayers, or maybe Ash or Andrew.
"Are you sure? He's not anyone I know." So Wesley was a little wary of inviting anyone he didn't know into his home. Sue him.
"He?" Gwen started to feel herself grin there, as she scrambled to get her shirt back on. "Is he tall, muscular, and fucking gorgeous?"
"Well, he's tall and muscular....I'm not sure if I'm a good judge on the last part," Wesley pointed out to her.
Ladies and gentlemen? A first. Gwen Morrison... squealed. Yes. SQUEALED. "Send him up!"
Wesley simply looked at her like she had grown a second head and headed down to fetch him. A few minutes, and a few veiled threats, later, Joshua knocked on her door.
"Why... whoever could it be?" Gwen called out, trying not to giggle as she layed there, still too tired to move or, really... to remember that she kinda looked like hell.
"It's me," Joshua said through the door. "Can I come in?"
"Heh. In the room, or in me? Either way, the answer is yes." Gwen? Charm School on line one for ya, honey.
He laughed, opening the door. "Is that your dad downstairs? He's actually kind of intimidating." Which you'd never expect from a glasses wearing guy, but he really was.
"He's..." she almost said 'my guardian', but then she smiled, thinking of how she thought of him. And realized what the true right answer to that was. "He's my adopted dad, yeah."
Joshua nodded. "OK, that explains the death threat then," he said with a slight laugh. "Said if I hurt you in any way that no one would find my remains."
"Hee. That's my Wes... Anyway! Here!" She patted the space next to her, still a little too tired to bother getting up, not really realizing her bruises were clearly showing.
He sat down beside her. "What have you been up to?" he asked, looking over her and seeing some of the bruises on her.
"Oh... same old same old. Been out and about..." she thought about how sweaty and scummy she had to look. "...exercising..."
"Exercising doesn't usually leave bruises, unless you're not doing something right," Joshua pointed out. "I know you said that there were some things you couldn't really tell me about right away. This go along with it?"
"Huh? Shit..." she muttered, pulling her shirt down quickly, although obviously it was too late. "I just... I got in a fight. No big, I promise. You should see the other person." If you could find enough of him to sweep up, she thought.
He nodded. She looked alright except for the bruises, so he was willing to except that explanation, for now, anyway. "You 'fight' that often?"
"More than I'd like sometime... but i can handle myself. Seriously. Don't worry about it. Remember? We talked about this. The whole 'we both have secrets' thing?" She reminded, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, yeah, I know," he said, waving his hand. She looked like a strong girl, so he'd just have to trust her until she was willing to actually tell him what was going on. "I'll try to not worry about it." Much, anyway.
"So what brings you here, babe? Miss me that much?" She asked with a hint of sarcasm. Like anyone would go through Gwen-Withdrawal that badly.
"Maybe I did," he said to her with a smirk. "Haven't seen much of you lately, so I figured I'd stop by and check on you."
"Ok, I was totally kidding... you really missed me?" She asked, honestly amazed. Gwen was recovering nicely from The Skylar Debacle, yet she was still having a tough time regaining her self-worth.
"No, I'm just lying to you to get into your pants," he said, deadpan, then laughed. "Yes, I actually missed you. Is that so hard to believe?"
"I guess I just figured a guy like you has too many options to really concentrate on trampy little me." Hey, Gwen had NO delusions of who and what she was. "You don't hear me complaining though..."
He rolled his eyes. "If you hadn't told me that a girl did this to you, I'd go beat up the lout who made you think this way about yourself," he said to her.
She snickered, thinking that really, Skylar could whoop the HELL out of him. "Well, yeah. And the guy she left me for is sort of... untouchable. So, better to leave them be. Seriously."
He rolled his eyes. "No one is actually untouchable," he pointed out. "Still, I'll leave it be because you said so. Still, for the record, it's wrong how you were treated." If it made her feel like that, it sure as hell was.
"I know it was. And she gave me a sincere apology, and... I accept it now." Gwen sighed, trying to process everything. "It just still hurts, is all. I forgive her... but I'll never forget it. Never. Plus, if she could? My best friend would beat the FUCK outta her."
"Then maybe you need to sic that friend on her." OK, so maybe Joshua had a soft spot for Gwen. What of it? "Anyways, didn't come here to talk about your ex."
"Right. So what DID ya come here to talk about?" She asked with an adorably smitten smile as she groaned and lifted herself into a sitting position.
He smirked at her. "Not sure, really. Maybe I just wanted to see your smiling face."
"Joshua..." She sighed, shifting a little to face him. Reaching out, she laid a palm on one of his cheeks. "I kinda like how you make me feel. Like I matter. I'm just... so afraid of getting hurt again... I don't think my heart could take it, seriously."
"Gwen, I have no intention of hurting you in any way," he said to her, reaching up and pushing some of the hair out of her face. "I know it's really hard to do, considering your situation, but you've got to trust me on that."
Her eyes fluttered closed as he touched her, as she felt her heart beating faster, in a way it hadn't since, well, she had been with Skylar. "I... look. If you... if you're serious about this... I think we need to talk. Because secrets are fun and cute but... if you really want to try this... I can't hide certain things from you."
He nodded. "Yeah, talking. We both got a few secrets. You wanna go first, or should I?" he asked her.
"Heh. Well... I will... but you gotta promise to not try to call the nuthouse. Because what I'm gonna say is 100% true, and Wesley will even back me on this." She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear and took a deeeeeeeeeep breath. "Ok. Those fights I get in? Not exactly with normal people. I fight... monsters, I guess you'd say. Real ones. Not like crap you see in movies...."
Oh god...really? He actually chuckled. "Let me guess. You fight vampires....demons, basically the stuff that goes bump in the night and do bad things." Damn, this was going to be easier than he thought.
"Now come on.. no mocking, I'm serious!" She said, a bit indignantly, scowling and narrowing her eyes a little. "I'm what's called a vampire slayer."
He took a deep breath. "OK...not mocking, actually," he said. "I don't know what a vampire slayer is, but I kind of do the same thing. I work for a government agency who does the same thing. I got recruited out of the army to do just that."
"...you gotta be fucking kidding me. Do our kinds of people like... attract each other like a bug light or something?" Gwen asked with a disbelieving blink.
"Now do you see why I was laughing?" Joshua asked her. "And we might just attract each other. So, what is a Vampire Slayer then? I've never heard of it."
"Ok... basically, it's a long-ass story. Used to be one of us, now there's a metric fuck-ton. We're girls born with all kinds of sweet shit like super strength, agility, all that good stuff. We're supposed to exist pretty much to destroy vamps and other evil shit." Not exactly the dictionary definition, but hey. This was GWEN. "Wesley is my Watcher. We each have one, someone who trains us and helps, well... keep our sexy asses alive. He just... happened to become a real father figure to me."
Joshua sat there and listened to her while she explained it. "Wow, that's cool," he said after thinking about it for a few moments. "I work for a company that has contracts with the government. It's not too bad. It's basically the army but you fight vampires and evil demons and stuff. Not all of them, though. Just the bad ones." It had taken Joshua a while to learn the difference between the good and bad ones, but they didn't really let him on the streets until he did.
"Yeah. Ain't that part a bitch and a half? One of my best friends was a vamp till recently. Then she kinda got better. Long story." Somehow, 'long story' felt like it should be the title of her biography. "So... you're like a super soldier? Like Captain America and shit?"
"Everything with you is a 'long story'," he joked, grinning at her. "And nah, we're just very well trained. I'm not sure if I'd be all about taking some steroid type thing and having my junk shrink."
"Thank god." She said when he mentioned not having his junk shrink, then smirked. "Sorry. I'd just be heartbroken if you had a tiny little nub down there."
"You think you'd be heartbroken," he said. "I'd be downright devastated. Ain't nothing worth that." He laughed again. He might be nice to women and all, but classy? Nah.
"Touche, dear boy, touche." Hell, after being with Pat for so long? Like some guy with small junk would do anything for her. Stupid rock star and his endowments... "So... you really wanna try to make this work with me? I'm being honest, sweetie... I'm NOT in a great place emotionally right now. You might... need to be patient with me at times."
"Hey, I think you're good enough that I'm willing to wait on you until you're up to it," he said to her. Now wasn't that impressive for someone who wanted to date Gwen?
"No need to wait for me, babe. I'm ready to try this. All I meant is..." She thought for a moment, looking for the right words here. "Sometimes... I might have moments where I'm a little tough to deal with."
He nodded. "OK, I get ya. No one's perfect," he smirked, "even if they look as good as you."
"Oh, listen to you." She rolled her eyes and laughed. "Cheesy lines and all... you're lucky that shit totally works with me." Then a thought hit her. "Hang on a sec." She pulled her tired self up, and sprinted out into the hallway, yelling downstairs. "WESSSSS! I THINK I'M GONNA BE FUCKIN', SO DON'T COME UPSTAIRS FOR A WHILE, OK?" Then she came back in, innocent smile firmly in place.
"Hey, it ain't cheesy if it's true," he said to her with a grin. That grin broke into a hearty laugh when she shouted what she did to what had to be a now freaked out British guy down the stairs (he totally was, by the way). "You, are too awesome for words."
The blonde gave him a wry laugh, shrugging. "Welcome to the world of Gwen, sweetheart. You might never be the same again."
