Girl Might Actually Have a Group of Friends by the Time She Graduates
Who: Jamie and Talia
Where: Regan High School
When: Friday at Lunch, 4/16
Talia liked school. Well, the whole learning aspect of it, anyway. The whole 'forced to sit in a room with people your own age' thing she'd rather do without, but. Bette had said that Talia was lonely, which meant, somewhere deep down, she really did crave human companionship. Who knew? She sighed as she made the way to her locker, collecting her laptop for the lunch break, out of habit.
Jamie went to her locker and put away her morning books. Time for lunch, which, for her these days, meant sitting outside with a home packed lunch. Looking next door to her locker mate, which happened to be Talia, she smiled at the other girl. "Wish I could afford one of those," she said, looking at the laptop.
It took a few seconds for Talia to register that the girl next to her? Was talking to her. Heh. "Oh, heh. Yeah, the benefits of having money and a dad who doesn't notice where it goes," Talia replied. Just a little bitter, thanks. She looked at Jamie then and smiled faintly, "Not that I'm complaining."
Jamie wasn't sure what to say to that for a moment. "Does it work well? Would you recommend the brand?" she finally asked.
Ooooh no, Jamie. Don’t get her talking about computers. “Alienware?” Oops, too late. “Yes, absolutely. They basically let you customize your own laptop, give them the specifications you need and they’ll do it. Sony, HP… they’ve got nothing on Alienware. It’s, admittedly, mostly for gaming but the possibilities are endless and…” she stopped abruptly and blushed. “Sorry, I went into geek!mode there.”
It actually took Jamie a second to take it all in but eventually she nodded. "I'll keep all of that in mind," she said. "I'm Jamie, by the way."
“Talia,” the other girl offered in return, hugging her laptop to her chest. “I… usually don’t talk so much. Unless it’s something I have an interest in, clearly.” She realized then that she didn’t really know Jamie, beyond that fact that she was blonde and pretty, but you’d have to be blind not to notice that. “…Lunch, huh?” Yes, ladies and gentlemen. She clearly had a grasp on social interactions.
"Yeah, lunch," Jamie said with a slight smile on her face. "Wanna join me for it? Wouldn't mind the company."
Talia's eyebrows shot up in surprise. It wasn't like she was off to save the world or anything right now, though, was it? She smiled and nodded. "Sure. I wouldn't mind it, either."
Jamie's smile got wider. "Awesome. I usually eat outside, but, if you eat in the caf, I'm willing to venture in."
Talia giggled and made a point to look at herself, "Do you not see how pasty I am? I think a little Vitamin D could be a good thing."
Jamie laughed. "On that note, outside it is." She just hadn't been sure if the girl had packed a lunch or had to pick one up first. If she was half as smart as she seemed? She packed a lunch.
Oh yes. Talia was picky when it came to her lunch, honestly. She pulled her backpack from her locker (containing said lunch), and slammed it shut, before asking Jamie to lead the way. Hm. Small talk... "So. ... What do you like to do with yourself?"
Wow, no offense, but even Jamie was better with talking to people. "Well, I write a lot, when I've got the free time." Between school and training, she had little free time.
"Oh, cool. I'm going to take a guess and say that English is your favorite class, then." Talia giggled. Apart from Bette, she hadn't talked to anyone socially, lately. It was kind of funny, now that she thought about it, that she was learning humanity from an A.I.
"English and history, yeah," Jamie said with a smile. "So, would I be horribly off in picking either math or a science as yours then?"
"Math," Talia confirmed with a blush. "I always liked working with numbers. It seemed easy to me then... well then, words." She giggled.
"Math was never my thing, but whatever works for you, right?" Jamie asked as she led the way to a tree that she liked to sit under during lunch.
Oh yay, shade! Talia plopped down on the ground, uncaring of the whole... dirt factor, since what could it hurt? She then put her bags on the ground beside her. "Exactly. Of course, English would help in the constructing of sentences thing, which I seem to be lacking ability in." Self deprecating humor? Sure, why not!
Jamie herself didn't really worry about the dirt, either, sitting down beside her. "Well, you're still understandable, and that's what really counts, right?"
"Oh yeah. It's when I start talking in tongues and projectile vomit that you're really have to worry," Talia said with a smirk. Yeah, she just references The Exorcist. What of it?
"That's pretty much when anyone would worry," Jamie pointed out with a laugh.
"Good point." Talia giggled as she took out her packed lunch. Mm, peanut butter and jelly. There really was no greater combination on earth, in her opinion.
