A Collaboration, Perhaps?
Who: Ginny and Mere
Where: Eden
When: Monday Night, 4/12
Mere probably should feel a little wary of going out after her little 'incident' at Avarice last week, but what was she going to do, stay home? Hell to the no. She just realized that she was going to have to start being a little more careful now. So, for one, instead of going to her predictable place of Avarice, tonight she decided on Eden. Sure, she didn't like the music quite as much, but it was still fine. At least she wasn't hitting up a club that was playing Britney Spears or some crap like that. She sipped at a coke (playing by the rules here) as she watched people dance out on the floor and tried not to giggle at some of the outfits.
Luckily, while a goth at heart, Ginny Callaway tended not to dress quite so dramatically. Tonight, she sat at the bar dressed in a simple, yet very flattering, black dress. It was almost Elvira-esque, as it was long, clung to every curve, had a long slit almost up to the hip, and showed off quite a bit of her ample cleavage. She wore her long, elbow-length black gloves again, the one sign of her self shame that she still let show. Luckily they looked good on her.
It took Mere a second to realize that Ginny was there. The two had only talked a few times, but might as well be friendly. She gave the girl a smile and a wave.
When Ginny saw Meredith, she gave a soft blush and waved back. Mere had that almost predatory sense about her that always made Ginny cutely nervous, but hey! That was Vamp!Mere, right? Maybe the girl wasn't as... Hypersexual now! Right. How little Ginny knew her.
Ginny had only known Mere as a vampire after all. She just didn't know better. Grabbing her drink, she got up and walked to Ginny. "Mind if I join you?" she asked.
"Of course!" Again... people that didn't know Ginny? Would NEVER expect her to sound like this offstage. That voice was a shy, barely audible whisper.
Mere's smile got wider and she sat down beside Ginny. "Long time no see," Mere said. "How've you been doing?"
"I'm doing well, thank you. Mostly I'm working on some new songs. And just..." She laughed, "living completely in awe of Lexi and her ability. I've never seen anyone so gifted on guitar."
"Lexi's awesome like that," Mere said to her. "She can put you in a lot of awe. "At least now she was able to, with the lack of massive drugs in her system and everything.
"I never got to thank you..." She said, that whisper of a voice never losing it's sweetness. "You... well... I know it isn't why you did whatever you did... but you might have saved the woman I love."
That actually elicited a real smile from Mere. "You're welcome," she said back. "Haven't heard back from that demon since, so maybe I won't have to answer for tricking it into doing that."
"If you do... let me know. I'm half-demon, you know. I'd be glad to help you if she gives you trouble. You brought back an amazing talent, and from what I hear, a great kid." She smiled, unexpectedly reaching over to hug Mere. "And you gave my Lexi back a piece of her heart she almost lost forever."
"Hopefully I won't hear from her at all," Mere said. She actually hadn't realized that Ginny was half-demon. That was interesting. "But I'll let you know if it comes up."
"Also..." And this should show how serious Ginny was about her gratitude. "I may not like the girl anymore.... but Paige is a justice demon. Which is...." she thought of a way to explain. "Ok. A surgeon and an EMT are two different type os jobs, but are in the same profession, right? That's how I can relate what Paige is to the demon you angered. If anyone can protect you if need be... it's her."
"I get it," Mere said. "I've met Paige since she came back. I guess I'll need the offer of protection now. It's still something I'm trying to get used to, honestly."
"Protection? Or Paige not being a total cunt?" Well. Considering Ginny rarely said anything bad about ANYONE? Combined with the sweet, matter-of-fact tone she said that with? Wow.
Mere actually chuckled when she said that. It was just amusing to her to hear Ginny say something like that. "Let's go with both then," she said. "Glad to see Paige finally get over herself. Too bad it took death to do it, though."
"Well... as long as she doesn't hurt the people I care about anymore, then I can let things go. I'm just not... as willing to completely forgive as some." In her life... hell, with the abuse she'd suffered, Ginny had learned to hold a grudge like you wouldn't believe. "You know... you seem so much more alive now." She rolled her eyes at herself then. "Not in the obvious way... I meant just... since your change, you seem so much more... sweet."
Mere actually did laugh when she said that she was much more alive now. She couldn't help it. "I'm a little less sad than I was before. Most of what I had to look forward to was watching my friends age and die while I stayed the same. Wasn't relishing that."
"How are things going with Suicide Messiah? I know you guys have been recording too... I can't wait to hear what you decide to put on the album. Pretty much every song you have is great." She said with a smile.
Mere smiled. "Things are going great. We're actually thinking of touring soon, although we may have to put that off..." She trailed off, thinking of Skylar's pregnancy.
"I'm really happy for her. Ben isn't... my favorite person, but I know we all have someone out there that's JUST meant for us. Maybe he just had to find her." How could this girl, this hopeful, optimistic sweetheart, be the savage animal people saw onstage?
Mere nodded. "I knew he was meant for someone other than me, but I didn't quite realize it was her until, well, everything blew up like that. They are both good people, though, even if their eventual hooking up didn't start on the right foot."
"I have nothing against them, honestly. Skylar and I have barely met, really. And Ben... I don't like the reputation he's made for himself, but I barely know him as a person." Ginny had a tendency to be almost maddeningly diplomatic, at almost all times. Only when truly upset would she get really worked up.
"Well, Ben earned most of the reputation that he has," Mere pointed out. "Hell, I helped him earn a little bit of it myself." Mere's own rep was well earned, and she wore it like a badge of honor. "Still, can't always judge a person by the company they keep."
"You really DO have a rep for being a destroyer of innocence." Ginny replied with a loud laugh. "On one hand, you're like... the epitome of everything a girl like me speaks out against... but on the other hand you
"I just happen to own what I am and make no apologies for it," Mere said to her with a grin. "Do I enjoy sleeping around? Hell to the yeah. Does that make me a slut or a bad example for women everywhere? Only as much as a guy is for doing the same thing. Besides, if I worried what others thought of me, I'd have never made it out of high school." She grinned at Ginny. "Everyone's got their own brand of girl power, babe."
"You know? I have to say... I *do* like your attitude, Meredith. Seriously. Maybe if I had your kind of confidence, I wouldn't be as... shy to this day as I am." She gave a bashful smile, as, offstage, she WAS still very shy and possessed of low self-esteem.
"If you're shy, that's cool, too," Mere said to her. "Never try to be anything that you aren't. I can never pretend to be a virtuous young innocent, and you can't ever pretend to be...well, like me." She laughed.
"You know..." Ginny grinned then, a master at marketing one's reputation. "That would be a decent nickname for you: Destroyer of Innocence"
"Maybe when I eventually start my obviously going to be awesome side project when we're rich and famous, I'll call my first album that," Mere said with a grin.
Ginny actually giggled with a blush and a shake of her head there. "I don't know how you manage to be so crass and make it so hot, girl."
Mere just shrugged. "Maybe it's my personal charisma. Being hot doesn't hurt, either."
"Being a bad-ass guitarist? Also something that doesn't hurt. Oh man... first time I saw you girls play? I was SO jealous that they had you and not us." The raven-haired goth smiled brightly, unafraid to admit how good the girl was. "Paige was good, but not in your league at ALL. And even Stephanie... the girl's really good, but not in the same style you have."
"Well, our bands are different styles," Mere pointed out "Stephanie's fantastic for what you guys play. She just comes alive on stage like...wow." She laughed at her own lack of vocabulary there. "To each their own."
"Well... I think you and I should just jam sometime. Just for us. I have some stuff I've written that's not... really the style of The Lazarus Project." Was this Ginny extending the olive branch? Offering to hang out sometime?
"That sounds fantastic," Mere said with a grin. Oh Paige's ass would burn with jealousy over this! What? Mere's wasn't going to rub it in her face! "I've got stuff that's not Suicide Messiah style as well."
"I mean, if our bands are going to tour together, I'm sure we'll have plenty of time to brainstorm, right?" Ok, so maybe Ginny was just excited to be making a new friend here. Seriously, she really hung out with NOBODY other than Lexi and sometimes Lilly.
Mere nodded. "Plenty of time to brainstorm," she agreed. "I think that this will be a very good partnership."
"So... between us. I have to ask: I know Paige is on this redemption kick, but... Darlene Southland? Seriously?" Ginny let out a low, worried whistle. "Talk about a long-term project there... that girl's batshit CRAZY."
"Paid for her to go to rehab and everything," Mere said with a nod. "If Paige is in it for the long run, maybe she can actually do something with that bunch of drunks. Good luck to her, though."
"I have to admit... I miss her. But what she did... it made it hard for me to trust anyone again. And that's not something I can just snap my fingers and get over. Other than Lexi, I don't think I have unconditional trust in ANYONE anymore, not even my own bandmates."
Mere nodded. "And it's partially my fault that it happened. Paige seemed fucked no matter what, but I helped give her the power to put it into fruition." Mere made a face, scrunching up her nose and lips for a moment. "Sorry about that."
"Hey. Stop that." Ginny shook her head, not about to let Mere feel bad about that. "I had already kicked her out before she ever even started with you. She'd betrayed my trust when she kept picking on Lexi even after I told her how much she meant to me."
"Not saying that I made her rotten within," Mere said. "Just that I gave her the key to the car that mowed down the pedestrians." She sighed. "I'm past it, but it's something I gotta live with."
"Well... look at it this way. Everything happens for a reason. Had you not done that? Then a lot of people out there wouldn't have..." Oh hell, Ginny couldn't even put a TOTALLY nice spin on this. "well, they wouldn't have a bitchy, smart-ass demon making shitty comments while saving their lives."
Mere snorted. "True there. Now she's saving a few lives. Maybe that's why she took on Darlene Southland. Another step in the process or something."
The pale, buxom brunette raised her glass then, holding it to Meredith. "Plus... I doubt we'd be having this conversation then. So... good things can come of almost anything." Even the hideous scars under those gloves, and the reason she HAD them, had led her to the good place she was in now.
