Never Allowed to Leave
Who: Gwen and Wesley
Where: Wesley and Gwen's Home
When: Tuesday Afternoon
Wesley was in the kitchen, making himself a cup of tea. He'd had WAY too much coffee lately, and, amusingly enough, didn't want his 'British card' revoked by drinking so much coffee and not enough tea, as Gwen would put it. He had been keeping busy lately, working with Gwen on her slaying techniques, quietly hoping that Gwen didn't get an STD with all the people she went home with every night (which he TRIED to not think about, but he could only be so oblivious on his own), just the usual really. He hadn't been able to see much of Liz lately, unfortunately, since his own work and her time spent at the hospital kept them away from each other.
For most people, it was afternoon. For Gwen? It was... "Mornin'..." She grumbled, padding into the kitchen in bare feet, plaid PJ bottoms, and a tight white tank, hair in a tousled ponytail. "Mind makin' me a cup? Not quite ready for coffee yet today..."
It wasn't actually shocking that Gwen was coming down in the afternoon. Not much at all shocked him about Gwen these days. "Sure," he said, taking down a cup from the cupboard as well. "How are you doing?"
"You know? For the first time in a while... pretty good, Wes. I'm starting to feel like... like ME again." She smiled, walking up and just hugging him for the hell of it.
He hugged her back. "You have no idea how relived I am to hear that," he said to her. To have her to her old self again would be a blessing.
"I'm just... I'm done, Wes. This thing with Skylar... Its not gonna break me." Gwen gave a rough little sigh and shook her head. "If she wants to have kids with that smarmy dick, let her. But I'm through letting it bother me. Much." The blonde laughed, having to admit that it still bothered her, even if she wasn't letting it ruin her anymore.
"You don't have to be perfectly fine with it to be doing OK with it," he pointed out to her as he made her a cup of tea. "As long as you don't let it kill you, you'll be fine."
"Hey. I got you, right? And Andrew, and Joshua. I got my watcher, my best friend, and my kinda-sorta semi-boyfriend." She snorted, "so how bad can things be?"
He smirked. "It sounds like you are doing quite well for yourself actually," he told her.
"It still hurts, Wes. I ain't gonna lie. But I'm done letting the pain win. I'm gonna be glad for what I have, and just... try to move forward." Ut-oh... Mature!Gwen was making a rare appearance.
"I think that's the best way of looking at things," Wesley told her, brushing a stray piece of hair out of her face. "So this Joshua guy. When do I get to meet him?"
"Honestly? As soon as I'm sure." She stated, giving an apologetic look. "I don't want to... fully bring him into my life until I'm SURE. I'm playing it safe this time."
He nodded. He could understand her feeling that way. Her to be gun shy so to speak now didn't shock him at all. "Whenever you're ready I'd love to meet him."
"Well, like I said... I wanna just sort of... keep him to myself until I'm sure. If he's really the one, you guys will all meet him. I promise." She shrugged, trying to lighten everything. "On the bright side, at least I don't have a grown kid running around. So.. go me."
"And the relief I feel over that cannot be measured," Wesley joked to her. Personally he couldn't help but feel a tad relieved that a child of his own hadn't popped up. Seeing as how others had handled it.
"Dude. Like I'm ever gonna have a KID. Can you even picture it? The fact that Bella is kind-of-sort-of part-mine is scary enough." She snorted, although it was hard to tell if she was being sincere or 'tough'.
"Who knows, you might have one someday," Wesley pointed out. "For all we know he or she just might not have come along with the rest of them." He certainly didn't know the future.
"Heh. Whatever, dude." She smirked, shrugging. "I kinda wish me and Mars had worked out. She's just awesome. I'm glad she's back."
"Always time for that if you want it," Wesley pointed out to her. "You never know what the future will hold, no matter what kid may want to tell us about their future."
"Nah. Me and Mars will always be into each other, but... she doesn't think of me as 'girlfriend material' anymore." She smiled then, sighing. "Joshua seems to think I am, though."
"Good. Then he's not an idiot. That's always the first step: learn if they're an idiot," Wesley said to her with a grin.
"I think I still wonder sometimes if there's something wrong with me." She admitted, smiling sheepishly. "You know, that I wasn't good enough for Skylar, that I wasn't good enough for Marlowe..."
"You may not have been right for them, but that has no bearing on how 'good' you are, Gwen," Wesley said to her. "They weren't a right fit for you, either. You'll find someone perfect for you one day who won't run around on you or run off on you. I promise you that."
"Think so?" She asked, trying to sound like it wasn't a big deal. "I mean, it'd be nice if I meant something real to someone..."
"Well, you mean something real to me," Wesley said to her. "Not quite in the way that you're looking for right now," because, in so many reasons, one was that he was WAY too old for her, in his opinion, plus him being her Watcher and father figure to boot, "but you mean everything real to me."
"Thanks, Wes. I kinda love you, ya know that?" She hugged him, stifling a little sniffle.
"I love you, too, Gwen," he said, hugging her back.
"Just never abandon me, ok? I mean... everyone I love has left me. My dad, Gemma, Skylar, Mars... Ok, Mars came back, but still. I kinda have abandonment issues I think." Gee, Gwen... really?
"I never plan to leave you, Gwen," Wesley told her. "I'm never going to leave you." Frankly, his loyalty went to Gwen first, then the Council, then everyone else.
