Go See The Namesake
Who: Ash & Delilah
Where: Ashes To Ashes
When: Monday afternoon, 4/5
When Ash heard that Delilah, his fellow Watcher, had opened a magic shop, he knew he had to visit. The woman knew enough about the darkness to likely have at least a small, hidden stash of the hings HE used. But when he got there, the black-clad young man couldn't help but laugh when he saw the name. Nice pun.
Walking into the place, he glanced around, silently taking a look at the stock, and the general decor of the shop.
While Delilah could have decorated it in a New-Age like feel to attract the free wheeling people who were loose with their cash, that wasn't what she had been after when she opened it. Her mother had been a witch, after all, and, if she were still alive, might have hexed Delilah on principle for doing that. No, it was actually sort of non-descript, except for the mechanical fortune reading gypsy that sat in the window, it's coin operation turned off so that it couldn't read anyone bad, real futures like it wanted to do. (Collecting cursed objects would make it so that she would have 'interesting' things in her shop, after all.) That was just one of the somewhat random objects that she had around, not including the tons she had hidden away in the basement that *couldn't* be turned off some way or another. Right now, though, she was flipping through a book as she waited for someone to come in. When she heard the bell ding, she looked up and saw Ash, giving him a slight grin. "I wondered how long it would be before I saw you," she said.
"Well.. It kind of took a while for me to feel I could show my face around you. Nice place..." He said, looking around, the dark circles under his eyes far less pronounced, but still there. "Cute name, by the way."
"I figured that you would like the name," Delilah said to him, shutting the book that she was going through. She noticed the circles under his eyes, but didn't say anything about it for the moment. She kept feeling like she was forgetting something, but didn't know what. Like she should KNOW what had been bothering him. "As for showing your face around me, what happened after the fact wasn't really your fault. Just kind of a by product, I guess. I think I would have realized that quickly enough if I was in my own right mind."
"Well... To know I'm the reason you went all She-Devil for a while... and the fact that everyone ELSE knows it... Yeah. Little ashamed here." He said with a sheepish grin. "You look great though... How've you been?"
"For some reason I think everyone else is more mad at you over that than I am," she told him. "I've forgiven you for that, and that's what matters, isn't it? Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures." She had a much better understanding of how things weren't just black or white than most people seemed to. "I've been doing fine. I've kept busy working here, mostly. Between this place and working with Sin, I stay busy. What about you?"
"Well... Between training Buffy and my own... interesting personal life, I've been rather busy. Relationship issues plus worrying about my sister... it can be a lot to deal with." He admitted with a soft smile. He'd never admit it, but, it seemed to him that Delilah was even more attractive since being touched by that bit of darkness.
"At least you have a personal life," she pointed out to him. Delilah's personal life consisted of...well, not much these days. She may have been developing an interest (finally!) but, with her luck, nothing probably would come of it. "How is your sister doing?"
"I'd give you a pep talk there, but... First? I don't do pep talks. And second? Looking like you do? You'll have one soon. Trust me." He laughed then, shaking his head. "As for Patience... I'm worried. She'll be fine, then get these horrible fevers that just... go away like nothing ever happened."
She laughed when he said the first part. "Looks are only a part of the equation," she told him. As for the next part..."Fevers? Are there any other symptoms?"
"No. No symptoms at ALL. Its... Strange. Especially considering my sister has never shown any signs of anything supernatural." He furrowed his brow, grumbling.
"Looking into that might not be a bad idea," Delilah told him. "Of course, it could just be related to the pregnancy as well." The baby might be supernatural, or, of course, it could just be a regular old normal thing related to it.
"I just know I'm looking into as many types of protection spells as I can find." He said determinedly. "She was taken from me once... Its never happening again."
Delilah nodded. "What sort of protection spells are you looking for?" she asked him. "There are all sorts, but I'm sure that you know that."
"Well, I need something I can be sure won't upset the tender nature of her pregnancy..." He gave a wary glance to her. "And you KNOW how iffy magic can be."
"Yes, I do," she agreed, "which is why, at least for Patience's sake, I'd recommend sticking to the whiter sorts of magics, even if they may not be as strong sometimes." Of course, if you were good enough, anything could be strong enough.
"If someone does it... it won't be me." He said without even thinking. "I will NOT expose my niece or nephew to the kind of darkness inside myself."
"Know of anyone as good with magic?" Delilah asked him. She could technically perform magic. Anyone could, to be honest, as far as things like protection spells were concerned. However, she couldn't wield nearly the sort of power he could.
"No... I don't really know anyone I feel I could trust with this. Including myself." He found himself wishing Chloe had any real talent, as she was practically as kind and light as Lucy was. "But enough of my worries. I came to check on YOU. I can't help it... I worry about you now."
"I wish I could offer to help, but I have far more knowledge than talent," Delilah admitted to him. "And I'm doing alright. No need to worry about me, Ash."
"I can't help it. After all that happened, I kinda feel like I'm responsible for protecting you now." It had to sound funny: a nineteen year old boy telling a 30-something woman he needs to protect her.
"I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you're kind of strange Ash," Delilah told him. She wasn't sure what to think of him feeling responsible for her.
"Trust me... I've been called worse." He sighed, realizing that really? Only Mere, Lucy, and Neely seemed to really GET him. Maybe he *was* creepy like everyone said. "I just... I hurt you. And I feel like now I need to make sure nobody ELSE does."
She nodded. It was a sentiment that she understood. It was just that, no matter how powerful he actually was, it was strange to be 'protected' by a nineteen year old. "You're a hood person, though. Don't forget that."
"I'm not. I never have been, never will be. Luckily... I have someone who keeps me from... becoming what I know I have it in me to become." He smirked darkly.
"Even though I haven't seen much of it, I do have an understanding of what you can be. You may mostly be acting good for the sake of another, but, if you were truly bad or evil, then even love couldn't stop you for long."
"Then maybe part of me is truly good. Because I love her totally and completely." My, did he grow fierce merely discussing Lucy...
"Few people are truly and fully good or evil. Most people have levels of both. Not all bu most." She smirked. "Anyways, if there is anything I can do to help you, don't hesitate to ask."
"Just stay safe. And keep being the good person you are." He smiled, grabbing a book on potions from the shelf. "And I'll buy this, thank you."
"I'll work on that," she said, taking the book and ringing him up, then told him the price.
Handing her two twenties, he nodded respectfully. "Its only a few dollars more than it costs... Just keep the change."
She thought about refusing the extra money, but finally just put it back in the cash register along with the rest. "Thanks," she said. It would cover something that Sin was liable to break during their next training session, anyway. "By the way, I have a training area set up for Sin here. If you'd rather work here with Buffy instead of the Sugar Shack, you're more than welcome."
"Thanks. I think Mr. Giles is working on getting us all a real HQ, but until then, sure." He took the bag, and bowed. "As always... a pleasure."
