Something Stirring
Who: Giles & Delilah
Where: Giles' home
When: Friday night
Sometimes, Giles liked to feign ignorance. Why? Because frankly, it was much easier on his brain to pretend he didn't know what his slayer was likely out doing on a friday night. Seriously.
So instead, he decided to embrace the rare quiet night of no work, enjoying a hot cup of tea and a dog-eared copy of Milton's 'Paradise Lost'.
Delilah drove over to Giles's house and, once she had arrived, got out of the car and walked up to the door. She had a few things to discuss with him, mostly about Sin's training, but, since she hadn't seen him in a little while, she figured that she'd just...stop in as well. She knocked on his door and waited for him to answer.
Giles felt himself sigh once: of course he wasn't going to get a quiet evening alone. Hetting to his feet, we blinked once when he looked through the window and saw who was there. He unlocked the door and removed his glasses briefly. "Ms. Zamorah... Hello."
"Hello Mr. Giles," Delilah said. "Is it possible for me to talk to you for a little while? I wanted to discuss some of Cynthia Stone's training."
"Oh, of-of course." He stammered slightly, as he tended to do when caught off-guard. He stepped aside to allow her entry, obviously skipping the actual invitation. "Is there a problem with Cynthia?"
She walked inside. "Thank you," she said to him. "There's not a problem. I just wanted to go over some new training techniques that I wanted to try out with her. Also, some of the other Watchers are suggesting that we pool together all of the Slayers once a week or so in order to make them work better together and get to know each other some more."
"We can certainly gather the local slayers once a week for a group training session. That's. Marvelous idea, actually..." He replied with that charming, almost rogueish smile. "And what did you want to discuss about Cynthia?"
"Of course, some don't get along still, so hopefully they will bury the hatchet long enough to work together on this." Wow, Giles actually had a really nice smile. He should do that more often. "Yes, Cynthia," Delilah started. What did she want to talk about again? Oh yeah. "I was wondering if you can give me a hint as to where to go next. She's doing very well so far, so I want to find something to challenge her."
He caught her... staring at him, but his first thought? Not even in the same ballpark. "Do... Do I have something on my face?" He asked, fearing he may have gotten some of the tea on his cheek or chin. "And I would suggest something to help her work on her balance. Her clumsiness is her biggest weakness."
"Oh, no nothing on your face," Delilah said, looking away for a moment. Damn, she hadn't realized that she had been caught staring. "Balance sounds good to fix that. Anything that you could recommend in particular?"
"If you have the patience, Tai Chi training could well harness the girl's agility and balance, as well as possibly help with her awkwardness." He offered, walking back to his sofa. "Spot of tea, Ms. Zamorah?"
"Yes, please," Delilah said. "And please, call me Delilah." She sat down across from him. "Tai Chi then? I'm sure that will take a lot of patience. Hopefully I can teach it to her, though."
"Well... Your slayer is an interesting girl. But you've got the ability and intelligence to do just fine. You're one of our brightest, dare I say." He said as he poured a mug of tea for her, setting it on a saucer before her.
She smiled at him, taking the tea as well. "Thank you," she said to him. "Sin is interesting, but she is interested in being a good Slayer. She at least has the right attitude to make a good Slayer."
"On a more personal note..." He cleared his throat, having wanted to mention this for a while now. "Its good... to see you back to your old self again."
"It is good to be back to normal again," Delilah agreed. Sure, she hadn't talked to Jeremy much lately, although she did congratulate him on his engagement like a good friend should. Other than that, she was feeling much like her old self again.
"I've had my hands full enough with Mr. Kowalski lately... its good to see you at least are yourself again." He sipped at his own tea, just reflecting on how frantic and hectic things had been lately.
"Exactly how IS that going?" Delilah asked him. While she didn't remember Lucy being dead (why would she?), she knew that SOMETHING had went on with Ash to make him quit. She just couldn't place why.
"He... apparently had some sort of emotional meltdown. Buffy has convinced him to return as he watcher, despite my... concerns." He rubbed the bridge of his nose and sighed. "Sometimes I fear I'm in over my head here..."
"If you are in over your head, then we're all drowning," Delilah pointed out to him. "Buffy worked better with him than she did with anyone, though. He might be what's best for her."
"My... apologies, Delilah. I have to be above this. It just... sometimes the stress feels overwheling. Running all of this, trying to help Isabella to properly train the Junior Watchers, and still training a good but stubborn slayer of my own..." He smiled again, although it was clearly forced for her benefit. "It just gets hard to relax sometimes."
She nodded when he said that the stress sometimes got overwhelming. It really did get overwhelming at times. "You should talk to someone about this more often," Delilah told him. "You can't bottle up these feelings forever, you know."
"Maybe that's why I'm talking to you, dear..." He suggested. "I trust you. You take your job and yourself seriously... but not TOO seriously, which is something I both admire and envy a bit."
She smiled at him. "It's hard to take yourself too seriously these days." Especially when you worked with a girl who had an assortment of haircolors that she might show up with. "And you are welcome to call me or talk to me whenever you need. But you envy my 'not taking myself too seriously' ability?"
"I feel if I could do that..." He gave a wry grin there, "perhaps I would handle this all better."
She nodded. "It would probably help," she said to him.
"Is there... anything I can do for *you*, Delilah? You seem... troubled, still." Just something about her, she seemed somehow saddened still.
"Well life's not perfect obviously, but I suppose I'm doing OK," Delilah said to him. "Are you doing OK?"
"A bit lonely at times, and under a lot of stress..." He smiled and patted her on the shoulder. "I'll be fine."
"Well, uh, you don't have to be lonely," Delilah told him. "You can always talk to me." She was lonely herself these days. She knew what it was like.
"I think I'd very much like to take you up on that offer sometime..." He laughed, feeling rather pathetic.
She felt a little sad herself, but she was past worrying about such a thing. "Maybe we can help each other out with loneliness a but then," Delilah said.
"Any time you need to talk or... or just need some company... I'm usually here." He was also working on putting together a new home base for the Council, but shh.
She nodded. "I think I'll have to take you up on that offer," Delilah said to him. A part of her actually looked forward to it.
